80 gig of hd
14.1 screen (i love the screen)
overall ok siya. bang for buck (43k including ram upgrade)
i nbought it a montj ago at pc corner gilmore. medyo sablay nga lang vid card kasi built in (gma 950) pero 224 mb shared mem. ok siya sa office work and runs vista. wag ka lang umasa ng magandang framerate sa games.
Mine is HP Pavilion zv5476cl. I got it for $1,300+ here in US. Overall, it is a good laptop but of course, I still have complaints. Since I had it for close to 3 years now, wala nang warranty so I had to pay if I need technical support. It has a 15.4 screen which I thought was good when I bought it but now, I consider it as a handicap. I travel and it is heavy so now I am considering getting an ultraportable Sony Vaio. It has an 11" screen and weighs less than 3 lbs. I think it is around $2,000.
Do we already have Dell Inspiron 1520 here?
How is this - Dell laptop - compared to Mac laptops?
I don't own a Dell but I can say that I made a very good choice when I purchased my Mac. I couldn't be happier. The main difference between that Dell laptop and a Mac is the OS. By the way, I have PC-only applications running on my Mac too. I am using Parallels, a virtualization software which can make your MacBook run two OS'es at the same time. OS X on the main window, Window XP (or Vista if you have a Mac Pro) in another window. Cool eh?
I'm now looking for a new laptop, and on the top of my list are Asus laptops. I'm also looking at one Compag Presario (I forgot the exact model). It has Altec Lansing speakers so it got my attention. But Compaq laptops are now under HP, right? Then that makes me wary of buying it because of their service.
If you really want the graphics and a bigger screen, go for the Inspiron. If you want a smaller screen, more HD and a faster processor, and a choice between two operating systems, go for the MacBook.
i'm saving up for my first laptop purchase and after googling for days, the toshiba satellite U305-S5107 caught my eye. it's core 2 duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 1.73GHz, 13.3" screen, has bluetooth, 4.6lbs, dvd burner. i'm also told by my techie friend in the US that toshiba laptops are very durable & rarely crash.
basically, i'm leaning towards a lightweight laptop with core 2 duo, bluetooth, minimum 1GB RAM, has ethernet port for smartbro connection, 5400RPM, dvd burner. the toshiba U305 seems to fit the bill but what's holding me back is that it's a Vista (i've read not-so-great reviews online) and i'm worried if it remains cool enough for a typical weekend use of straight 12hrs or more... i haven't read much reviews abt the said model coz it's relatively new.
on the other hand, i'm greatly tempted to get a macbook 13.3" but it's heavier than the toshiba at 5.1lbs, only 1GB RAM, only 120GB HD. interestingly, it's processor is faster at 2.16GHz (how can it be faster than the toshiba when it's both core 2 duo?). my concerns with macbook though is that i will be a PC-to-Mac switcher. i'm not sure if i can handle such a switch... and it's much more expensive! am also not a fan of white coz i think i would just get discolored in the long run. and i wonder if there would be as much pirated software (i know, shame on me, but it's just so much cheaper to buy pirated software with crack codes) available as compared to windows-based software apps?
My MacBook is black and it has 160GB HDD. I also upgraded it to 2GB RAM. I am not sure how much a Toshiba would cost but if it only has 2GB RAM and it runs Vista, ummm goodluck hehe.
Pirated softwares for Mac? I dunno eh, I haven't explored that side yet. I prefer having legit software installed in my computer whether it's a PC or a Mac.
Di ba pwede Windows XP na lang ang OS nung Toshiba?
If you have broadband readily available, it's cheaper to download cracked software for Mac.
If you're that concerned about Vista's instability/the Mac switch, you might do well to purchase a copy of XP and install it yourself na lang. If you get the Toshiba, you might have to format the HD before installing XP (but correct me if I'm wrong, in case Vista supports a "rollback", but I doubt it does); if you get the MacBook, you can install XP side by side with OS X.
Me, I'm still waiting for OS X Leopard to come out in October before I finally get myself a Mac laptop.
Any feedback on Acer ASprire laptops? I'm shopping for my first laptop and this brand offers the lowest price.. I'm looking for a model with integrated webcam and wi-fi ready...
Acer Aspire 4310-300508 Php29,900
Intel Celeron M processor
I'm planning to use it only for basic applications and perhaps internet, downloading and watching videos online. Some say celeron processor is already ok...?

MacBooks can go as low as 50k, if you know where to buy them from.
Asus s96j 15.4" Core2Duo t5600 1.83ghz/2mb cache/667fsb, 2gb ddr2 667 dual channel ram, Ati x1600 256mb GPU, 80gb hdd+200gb external drive, Creative xmods external soundcard, OS: Vista ultimate.
been running since the day that i bought it except for the time i upgraded my proc 2x already coreduo to c2d 1.66ghz to c2d 1.83ghz
Fujitsu P2120 10.6" Ultra portable, 512mb ram, ati radeon mobility m6 8mb, 40gb 5400rpm hdd(upgraded from 30gb 4200rpm), transmeta crusoe tm5800(super bagal nito lol! just for web surfing, ym and encoding documents, you need to tweak xp to it's limit just to make it run flawlessly)
i gave an acer to my wife last year(travelmate 2441nwxci, celeron m 1.46ghz) so far no problems with it, 24/7 operation running vista ultimate(2gb ram of course to make vista run smoothly with aero enabled), never had a crash or bsod in it's entire operating time. Planning on upgrading it's processor to a coreduo if ever i find a cheap one...
I think the cheapest you can get it for, if you're only limited to the Philippines and you want to make sure that you're getting a brand new product, is 60k. I know someone who's selling the new base-level model for 61k, and the previous base-level model for 58k.Originally Posted by alethxander0990
