It's been confirmed that Hrabak will be picked by Red Bull and Shell might pick Arigo for a shooter and most probably Ginebra will pick Miller because according to Caidic he will have no second thoughts of picking Miller...

I'm a die hard Ginebra fan, and I noticed na parang kailangan pa yata nila ng 2 superstars para talagang maging competitive sa PBA.

I hope they'll pick Hrabak (very risky, pero mahirap na ang humanap ng 6'6 na Fil-Am) or Arigo (well, they need a good shooting guard. I think Elmer Lago is inconsistent).

Si Willie Miller? Hmmm...yeah, may pagkabuwakaw nga siya and parang si Jason Williams...pero they've got a point guard na (Bal David and Helterbrand). They need someone like an Arigo or Hrabak.

    Let's just see tomorrow.

Si Jose sa San Miguel? Pwede rin. Kaya yan. Para ba namang pipiliin siya ng mga team na nauna.

John Arigo may get the #1 pick, because Red Bull needs anotherguy who can spot up and shoot the three. He's a good compliment to the energizers' frontline of Raymundo, Harp and Penissi. Miller could settle for second. I think shell badly needs an aggressive point guard. I think he'll suit well on the penetration and dropping off passes for their big men. Scouts say Arigo pays best coming off screens with a patented fade away. Im gonna feel sorry for the others who won't get pick in this year's draft. There's a lot of talent in this batch with most of them having pro experience while others have shown they have what it takes to take it to the next level.

Okay, so here are the 1st round picks in the 2001 PBA Draft:

    1. Willie Miller (Red Bull)
    2. Michael Hrabak (Shell)
    3. Mark Caguioa (Ginebra)
    4. Gilbert Demape (Mobiline)
    5. John Arigo (Alaska)
    6. Francis Adriano (Sta. Lucia)
    7. Norman Gonzales (Mobiline)
    8. Marvin Ortiguerra (Sta. Lucia)
    9. Roger Yap (Purefoods)
    10. Joey Mente (San Miguel)

A lot of surprises in the first round, especially on Ginebra's pick. I thought they're going to pick Arigo after Red Bull took Miller and Shell took Hrabak, but they instead picked Caguioa. Alaska was lucky they got Arigo with the # 5 pick.

Well, be back later to post the other draft picks on the PBA Draft.

Also, please be reminded that once a player is drafted doesn't mean that he is automatically in the team. They may not sign the players that they drafted, making them rookie free agents.

Sana makapaglaro sila sa SMB, especially under their ex-La Salle mentor Jong Uichico.

I heard that Caguioa is Ginebra's trade bait for a legitimate center but i don't know if it's really true or not. that may be the reason why the picked him over the others. The talented Caguioa might be traded daw to a team with a weak point guard spot like sta. lucia, shell, or tanduay

here are the reasons (i think) :

Red Bull wants Miller that will take the place of Torion
Shell saw Hrabak play and they think he could be a better help for them
Ginebra picks Caguioa for a possible trade for a center
    Mobiline don't need Arigo

    so, swerte ng Alaska.

Big winner at the draft - ALASKA

Got really lucky when John Arigo was available at #5, and got a perfect fit for Tim Cone's system in Kenny Evans in the second round. With Johnny A now in Pop Cola, Evans has a good chance of earning a starting job.

Big loser at the draft - SHELL

Commentators and observers try to make it look rosy by saying Mike Hrabak is "insurance" for Benjie Paras, but they already have 2000 Most Improved Player Mark Telan. Third-rounder Dino Manuel has a history of attitude problems, especially with his first MBA team Cagayan De Oro.
