bakit halos lahat ng intellectually gifted nagtuturo most of their time? why not be INVENTORS OR ENTREPRENEURS, two jobs seldomly caught by Filipinos(?). Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates are Harvard kickouts, Gokongwei and Henry Sy (they said) are not college graduates.

Sometimes, it's the skill and imagination that matters

fyi, kung walang magtuturo magiging mangmang ang mga tao kaya wag mong maliitin at sabihing "nagtuturo lang" sya at walang maitutulong sa bansa.

    1. Teaching is a noble profession. We won't be where we are now without the help of our teachers.
    2. Academics (at least those in decent universities) are engaged in research, the creation of new knowledge, aside from their teaching duties. They're inventors that way. Try finding out more about what the NIP is engaged in.
    3. There's no point comparing teachers to businessmen. They have different measures of success.

First of all, no offense intended to the teaching profession as I ALSO would like to become a professor in the science of finance and business. What I'm arguing is the development stage of learning, as we put it in practice and not just contained in research papers.

Academics must be put into reality right, not just contained in reseach findings and knowledge. that's why there's such a thing A Research AND Development. Research must be followed by Development. First world countries succeed because they have R&D, while the PH has intellectuals but lacks R&D.

Teaching profession is noble indeed, they pass knowledge from generation to generation. On the other hand, Inventors (developing prototypes from their research) can choose whether to become businessmen or just inventors as is. So it's not about teachers vs. businessmen to correct my point. As I said, we lack inventors and Businessmen who would help produce our own cars and inventions, unless they sell their inventions to other nations

Yes, academics are also responsible for research and development. Any decent university will have R&D as its thrusts. What I'm saying is that, at the university level, academics are also supposed to be engaged in development. It is not the profession per se that is the problem, but how most Filipino universities treat the profession. Despite having many universities (among the countries with most universities in SEA), we still lag behind our neighbors in terms of graduate degree holders and research papers.

that's what I've also been thinking. I've read an article once saying UP has research papers (given) but the problem is with the publication per se. If I would advice, they should publicize it and bid their work to Filipino companies (not multinational please) so that testing and production will work at its best for the country. However, we are more interested in retail selling and franchising (intermediary company in the value chain) rather than the producer or procurer, well just based on my observation.
