So I marched into Banco de Oro, big commercial and universal bank, on Katipunan, yesterday afternoon.

I approached the staffers manning the customers service counter, asking them, a guy and a gal, about their time deposit products -- acting brave and frank to tell them that I want big interest rates, like that offered by some rural banks: 20% p.a., tax exempt, pdic insured, monthly interest payable.

The told me with a straight face that it's possible. Did I hear that right?. Yes, they said it's possible.

So I asked immediately, "You mean I can do it right now here at this very moment?"

"Sir, you have to go to our main office, at Ortigas," they informed me with a sweet smile.


Okay, next time I am in that Ortigas area during office days and hours, I will drop in at the main office of BDO there. And also why not just try all the big secure longlasting banks like BPI, next time I am in banks row on Ayala Avenue.

First, of course, I have to get myself a new barong or a new suit, and a pair impressive rich looking shoes, and practice a very vip mien and posture and absolutely accent.

I just called my BPI bank manager to confirm and she was shocked to hear about the 20% p.a. thing. Sabi niya, impossible daw kasi very liquid daw now and may downward trend ang interest rates.

banks needing funds usually offer attractive deposit rates. for risk-averse people, aside from PDIC coverage, maybe you can take a look that their balance sheet, read some financial ratios especially Past Due ratio as a guide to safer investments.

I have met people who have doubled their money in TDs. but getting rich? naw.....
