Both FAMI and BDO publish daily NAVPS/NAVPU for their funds on their respective websites. In addition to these values, they make available their fund performance reports, which are updated monthly.

Further, algoshare above outlines a method for you to use Bloomberg to monitor the performance of local UTF/MF. Most of the FAMI and BDO funds are listed in Bloomberg and the information is available online for free.

While you're continously learning, you can actually start investing in either one of them. For BDO, they have easy investment program similar to COL Financial's EIP. Enrol mo lang BDO bank account mo sa EIP nila. Your 1k will be enough to start investing regularly in your choice UITF. Automatic na nilang icredit sa UITF account mo every month or even bi-monthly.

Sa FAMI naman, pwede ka din start ng Save and Learn mutual funds nila. Although 5k ang initial investment, tapos 1k na yun every month.

Pareho mo mamomonitor yan online through their respective internet banking facilities.

If you want to consolidate all the fund information in one place, you can signup for a Bloomberg account and create a portfolio. You will then be able to monitor the performance of your fund(s).

This would be useful especially if you have investments in more than one institution.

In terms of safety, saan po mas safe mag-invest, sa UITF or mutual fund? I mean "safe" meaning yung less likely na magsara (if ever there is such thing).

And in case both of them closed down, which of the two (2) ang mas madaling i-claim ang money? TIA

    No difference.

hello! what about tax? any differences?

  7. #47
Question: kelan po dine-debit yung trust fee?

  8. #48
The trust fee is an expense of the fund, and deducted from its assets either monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually. It is not deducted from the account of the investor.

None on the income and gains. Income from the assets is taxed at the fund level, and there is no tax withheld on the gains from the sale of your units/shares.

However, MF shares may be subject to doc stamp tax when purchased/issued, UITF units are not.

Thanks, Kuya Danny! Follow up question po: so aside from sales charge, pwede pa pong mabawasan ng doc stamps tax yung amount na iiinvest sa MF?

  11. #51
Yes, but ask to make sure. Yung iba hindi na sinisingil sa investor ang doc stamps.

Akala ko ide-debit pa yun na parang entry or exit fee. Thanks for the clarification.

    Mutal Funds or UITF

I just graduated this april. I will be 22 by the end of this year. I'm planning to save so I can do my first investment. Which one is better in short-term investment and long-term investment. When you apply for one of these, Can you apply anytime you want or do you have to consider something like current rates of uitf/mf before applying. Sorry about I ask my question. a bit newbie into this investment stuff . ^_^
