Personally, I prefer Satriani over Santana, owing to the cleaner way he plays. Notice that Santana comes out every ten years, which should be a testament to Carlos' genius. Instead, it took three releases for the world to truly acknowledge him. Nevertheless, it is easy to replicate the way he plays (some band in SM Bacoor covered "Smooth," and every ragtag garage band in the country can probably pull it off just as well).

On the other hand, Satriani's fingers are definitely the bomb. Sure, Joe doesn't sell as much as Carlos, but he definitely gets as much, if not more, props from the knowledgeable guitar crowd.

    definitely satch
pero i think hindi maganda ang pagka-pares ng dalawa. a more appropriate one would be steve vai and joe satriani. just my opinon...

    Joe Satch naman no comparison!

Altough Santana's has been there for the longest time, ngayon ko lang sha na kilala because he's suddenly "cool" these days.

I remember watching an episode of E! Philippines and the host asked random people from the crowd who was their favorite Latin artist, all they could answer was J-Lo and Santana!

Pwede ba, could somebody just please be honest and say, "La kasi ko alam sa Latin artists Pilipinas kasi 'to e, does Vina Morales count??"

Well, I like Santana. But my main man says that Satriani is better in his playing. Santana is always the same style and sound, Latin. He plays Santana well. (he plays guitar, drums, and keyboards). But he says that Satriani is the BEST when it comes to guitar sounds and playing. He has trouble with some of Satriani's stuff.
I kind of like Santana better, more sensual music

hmmm... these are two extremely different guitarists. they're styles are so drastically different that there's no way of comapring them. santana isn't one for technique and chops. santana plays from a different place than joe does. santana's amazing at what he does; and what he does best is creating accessible guitar hooks and great melodies.

HI! I'm doing ok. I kind of got away from this since I've been back from AZ. But i'm BAAAAk!!!
Well, my man really likes Satriani, in fact he's been trying to learn one of his songs today. He says in playing, Satriani has more of a variety than Santana. But I like Santana, as I said more sensual.

I don't know if he knows those people. He's resting now, we got home from Timog at 3 am. I'll ask him when he gets up, cool???
get back to you, I can't help thinking I know you?? Did you ever get that feeling???

Steve Vai or Paul Gilbert??? STEVE VAI!!!!! No contest, even my guy will agree with that. Steve Vai can make even a bad band or a bad guitar sound good. He is that good. AND, he can play a variety of music. Nice latin too!!!

bakit kayo mag-guitar eh pwede naman kayong makining ng boybandz like wastelife, bagstreetboyz, Nzinc, 98degrades di ba mga repapipz ??

Santana's music is more melody based... licks aren't that sophisticated. More commercially digestible ba... like europa pwedeng pwedeng pag seiko films na soundtrack.

Satch on the other hand is incorporating everysound that a guitar can make into his music. Diff techniques, different sound. But he can make some melodic cool stuff like always with me din.

I don't really dig santana's tone.. too round.

    what a comparison!?!?

definitely, it's joe, no questions asked... iba dating ng tuinog ni joe, the melody, the speed, the style...

i think the vai-satriani-johnson-gilbert comparison is much much acceptable...

    Post PInoy bands

Me and my partner went to Timog to see a pinoy band on saturday night. But you know, they were pretty awful. Not even one song was close to the original song. I think the owners of this restaurant should screen these bands before letting them play. What do you think?

In Bahrain where my partner used to play, the Filipinos are noted for their versatility in playing varied styles of music. I only found a few Pinoy bands that can do that here. I know their singer...it sounds like Noney or so? That young good looking guitarist is my partner's good friend. This guy plays so amazing, especially Santana and Satriani!! Samba Pati, is amazing, and so is Primavera.

I also used to play in a Toronto band, on keyboards, accordion, and i've even played violin, cello, and I know ONE song on bass guitar, Smoke on the Water. but I haven't done that in a long time. So musically, I can tell a good band from a fake, or a try hard band.

    Any comments please.

OH my partner says he has heard of Clay of Funkasauraus!
Plays good funk, but no rock.

    MR DEAN!!

I totally agree with you! Thousands of bands in the Phils can play note for note Santana...Satriani is more of an advanced/modern player...here's some more Frank Gambale, Steve Morse ( the greatest of them all in guitar playing), MIke Bacco, John Petrucci.

What do you think of these guys?????????

I saw Steve Morse live last year. He is amazing, he can play A to Z.

Hey guys, don't just stick with Satriani or G3, there are lots more out there...have you heard of Marty Friedman,...Al DiMeola...Jason Becker,Richie Kotzen...man too many to mention, check them out!!!!
