    Smile Dayang Dayang

    Okay I'm not Philipino or anything, I got a girlfriend who is though, and I asked her what the lyrics are or at least a rough translation of this song (Dayang Dayang).

    Even though I don't know what she is saying I have to admit that it is probably the happiest song I have ever heard. Could somebody tell me who sings it or help me find a site that has the translation or even just the lyrics please? Thanks Y'all!

    Papirit Po Papirit piririt etc etc... hahaha!

    I think the song came from Indonesia and it's in Bahasa, not Pilipino.

    i used to hear it all the time in my province in Mindanao. They say its supposed to be a song by a princess, can't understand the lyrics though. It's not in Cebuano, i think its a Tausug or some other ethnic group in the south.

    It is Indonesian. The title of the song is translated as "Dance of the Princess". It first became popular in the artist's native Bali more than 10 years ago. At the time when it was popular here, Sky Cable subscribers used to have Indonesian television, and I was one of those that regularly tune in and eventually have some of the taste of its culture.

    There are many similarities to Bahasa with one of our dialects. If you will be going to Pampanga, the language is quite similar to Kapampangan. They count by saying satu, dua, tiga (one, two, three). Ask any of your Kampampangan friends if you have.

    You are all wrong. This is a Filipino song. In fact, the original melody was used to accompany the Tawi-Tawi Dance 'Pangalay'. 'Pakiring' means 'to thrust hips'.

    This song have been around for a long time. Way it become updated with the more modern instruments.

    The song was about Dayang Dayang Hadji Piandao Kiram, daughter of Sultan Jamalul Kiram of the Sultanate of Sulu, Southern Philippines.

    Just because it sounds like Bahasa, it is not Filipino. Remember that Southern Philippines have a very close linguistic, historical and cultural affinity with Indonesia and Malaysia.

    Everytime I hear this song, it makes me feel so far away from home and that I want to go home. I feel like I'm in a nasty and dangerous part of town and should get home in a hurry.

    When this song became popular in the 90s, it was so commonplace to the point of being annoying.

    Recently, I chanced upon it and learned more surprising trivia about it.

    1) Apparently, it has its origins on a certain Filipino Muslim Princess;

    2) It is claimed as a Filipino ditty;

    3) Aishwarya Rai, arguably the most beautiful woman in the world, recorded its most popular version.

    Nice to know stuff.

    May version ba talaga si Aishwarya Rai nito? Or siya mismo ang kumakanta. Bahasa language yung naririnig ko at hindi indian.
    Di ba siya yung nasa Pink Panther 2?
