Frenchfries: hindi pa naman ganun kasevere *** scolio mo.kailangan mo lang na evriday gawin *** exercises(*** pang scolio, of course, & not other exercises) para maging flexible *** bones mo kasi mas madaling pagalingin ang scolio pag flexible *** bones. magpatherapy ka rin, in case naman na sumakit *** back mo, maglagay ka ng warm compress to ease the pain. pwede ka rin magswimming kasi un *** best treatment for scolio habang hindi pa ganun kasevere *** scolio mo. jus like *** ira said, pag lumala *** scolio, kahit anong gawin mong pageexercise, pagsswiming o pagpapatherapy, magiging useless na un.kaya habang hindi pa ganun kasevere *** scolio mo, do evrithing u can para ndi na lumala un.mas mahirap gamutin pag severe na, jus like mine.
question lang.bakit ka naglalakad ng 2 km? Thanks.

Yes. I have been a duly-licensed physician for several years already. So are Batang Uliran, eyedoc, and dog_lover, to name a few. One would have to be a licensed doctor to moderate this forum.

I suggest you talk to your dad about your worries with the physiatrist and recruit his help if your mom refuses to listen. Do some researches too about scoliosis treatments and complications over the internet for your mom to read so that she can see that what the orthopedic surgeons were suggesting are correct. Your mom is probably just afraid of surgery in general, that's why she opts to listen to the physiatrist. The state of surgery now is a million times better than how it was 20 years ago, and contrary to what a lot of people believe, complications are more an exception rather than the rule. Your present doctor is grossly mishandling your case, and by law, shouldn't even be the one managing you, since he/she isn't properly trained for scoliosis management. You're already 18 years old, and ultimately, you're the only one who can decide what's best for your body.

The back pain you are experiencing is not due to spine asymmetry--it is due to your work. For all intents and purposes, the 8 degree curve does not cause any symptoms, and you can do whatever you want. Again, you do not have scoliosis, you do not need any special therapy or treatment, and there's nothing that you need to avoid or need to do within reason. If you want to have a massage or walk 10 kms, then go ahead. If you need to take analgesics to lessen the pain, then do so.

Walk around and do stretching exercises at least 5 minutes for every hour that you're sitting in the office, and continue with your exercises. The right position lying down would be whatever feels comfortable, although you would probably feel better if you put a hard board or wood under your matress. As for sitting, sit straight, and if the chair in your office is giving you backaches, change it.

Frenchfries18: like you, ganun din ako dati. pag talagang masakit *** lower back ko, nilalagnat ako kaya nga minsan ndi ako makapasok sa skul.pero it can be relieved if uminom ka ng pain relievers or just put warm compress over the aching part.then, matatanggal *** sakit ng likod mo.

Frenchfries18: i think Ira is true na pag sobrang liit lang ng degree, it will not cause any pain.kasi ako dati, nung nalaman ko na may scolio ako, 12 degrees, kaya talagang nagulat ako na may scolio pala ako kasi hindi naman sumasakit.
Ira: question lang. what's the purpose ba of paglalakad ng malayo pag may scolio? kasi parang walang nasabing ganun *** doctors ko sakin e. gusto ko lang malaman para if ever, gagawin ko. thank you...

x_roads: I'm not saying that walking long distances is a magic potion which will cure frenchfries18's back problems--I'm saying that there is absolutely no limitation with him doing any physical activity he likes, even walking long distances, because he doesn't have scoliosis. His back pains are work-related. The exercises that will of most help him will be exercises that will develop the back muscles, so that his spine will be better held in place by these back muscles. With the severity of your scoliosis, I don't think your orthopedic surgeon will advice you to walk long distances anymore--while you still can do exercises, you should stop once you feel back or leg pains.

thanks po sa information :-) sabi ng ortho ko it will help kung maglalakad ako and some stretchings daw...sometimes oo na aalis pero marami paring araw and gabi na masakit talaga.

question again... bakit kapag malapit ng dumating period ko and kapag meron mas masakit yung lower back ko?

No one still knows exactly how the physiology of menstrual cramps work--other people get headaches, others get bloated, and still others get pain in various parts of the body. Your backaches during menstrual period can be considered "normal" in that sense.

hi, have scolio, but dont have a doctor. the one i went to years ago holds clinic sa orthopedic, mejo layo sa akin. saka, inconvenient yung long waiting hours sa paghihintay sa kanya. katakot pa face niya. hihi.

oh well, of course naman i want someone who will be concerned n will not be after the money lang. female sana, kung pwede. please recommend someone. preferably yung dito lang sa ortigas area. ty a LOT!!!

There are very few female orthopedic surgeons in the country as it is, and asking for a referral to a female one who doesn't look scary, who practices in Ortigas, who doesn't have a long patient list, and who is skilled in scoliosis may be asking a little too much. If you feel conscious stripping in front of a male doctor, let me assure you that when male doctors, especially those who have been practicing a few years already, see female patients, they do not look at naked or topless female patients the way lay people do, rather, as cases that need their expertise. When he asks you to strip, he only sees your back, and not much else. Trust me on this.

You can try Dr. Regalado de la Paz, he's practicing in The Medical City.

    question:

how did you guys find out that you had scoliosis? i tend to slouch a lot so i sometimes wonder if i might have it. what are definitive signs of scolio?

  14. #54

    Post

Slouching does not cause scoliosis, although occassionally it may be a result of scoliosis. Only if it's accompanied by symptoms like one shoulder being higher than the other, or one hip being higher, is scoliosis suspected. Slouching, if severe and chronic, may cause forward curvature of the spine (kyphosis). Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine. If severe enough, scoliosis may cause low back pains and will be seen thru physical exam as an abnormal 'S'- or inverted 'S'-curved spinal column, but mild scoliosis often does not exhibit symptoms. Unless there is a gross deformity, the only way to diagnose scoliosis is thru x-rays of the whole spine.

scoliosis? kasi diba pilated strenghtens the back and

If the degree of scoliosis is not severe that your orthopedic surgeon is already limiting physical activities, then there's no problem.

Discovered: When i was in 6th grade (i'm currently 22 yrs old ) coz my uniform has this jumper like (letter H) and d siya pantay when i wear 'em

what i did of course see a doctor. Had braces (coz usually that's what the dr. recommends when u're still growing..so that d curve won't curve more. i think my degrees are in 20+

Dr. also told me to swim...to make my spine flexible. BTW, my scolio didn't hurt.. but sometimes its kinda sore or "pagod"

what u'll notice your back is differnt, parang pasok *** isang side. or basta ur back is not straight

current situation i haven't done my xray for years now, i don't think my degrees worsened though... although they said that when i get pregnant or when i will give birth..it will be hard

All i know is that Scoliosis is mainly caused by genes
