Well, I currently have scoliosis then my doctor said na at my age of 18, it's too late daw na lagyan ng brace because it won't work at all. Not 100% silang sure kung kapag brinace ay malelessen ba yung degree or not. They truly suggested na opera agad pero my mother doesn't want it kasi due to the risks of operation... either I will be healed or my death. So, any alternative treatments that are non-operational? Any alternative exercises or sports good for us?

  3. #283
Placement of the brace depends on its severity. The more bent the spine is, the more likely that the patient needs the brace. There are certain exercises which can be done but it also depends on the laterality and severity of the scoliosis. It is also recommended not to lift heavy objects.

I haven't included squats on my routine yet since I haven't checked with an ortho, but judging from what most artix from the internet, Im sure he will advise me to avoid it.

^ You can actually squat even with scolio, you just have to start conservatively and if possible, get someone who is competent to check your form at all times.

As long as there is not too much compression and proper form in the movement is followed, you'll be ok.

The fact the article says lunges are dengerous for you when single-leg work is actually one of the best ways to train when you have sciolio, means the article is already questionable.
As the physically weak man can make himself strong by careful and patient training, so the man of weak thoughts can make them strong by exercising himself in right thinking.

Hi, I have scoliosis too and I’d just like to know where you can buy a orthopedic brace or at least a publicly available thoracic support belt or posture correcting harness in manila? I feel less back pain and stiffness while siting long hours at work if I tie my waist belt around my thoracic area/torso, so I know it’s worth buying a quality product that properly supports the torso to compensate for poor posture caused by scoliosis.
The kind of product I’m looking for is similar to this one here, http://www.healthcarenwellness.com/i...?productID=604.

    combat sports

Hi to all, first time ko magpost dito and I have a question:

  8. #288
Jinsushi: I believe they have those in some medical supply stores at Banawe, near the Philippine Orthopedic Center.

Wet_Noodle09: How mild is the mild scoliosis? How many degrees? Since combat sports are very physical, there is a risk that the current status of the scoliosis can worsen. Or, it can even break the spine if the involved spinal level is hit. Personally, i think it would be wise not to participate in those kind of sports.

You can but I'd also put extra emphasis on getting stronger and strengthen your legs and back muscles to support your spine better

@k_r_a_m: I have no idea of the degree of the curvature. But I was told that it is mild. I'll try to have another x-ray to determine the degree. Thanks for the reply.

@blake_daddy: Thanks for the reply. Actually, before I knew that I had scoliosis I was already training in Muay Thai.

9 years old kinatay ako..

Can you also work long hours, healthy and do you still have to do therapeutic exercises for your scoliosis?

  13. #293
Nyargh! Anyone has any ideas? I'm on a tight budget.

    Thanks!

@ lightpost: dunno if i can recommend any cheaper hospitals, but you can actually tell if your curve is worsening by taking photos of your back and comparing it to previous ones you had before, mararamdaman at makikita mo naman kung mas may deformity eh. are you noticing any physical changes to your posture and appearance?

(I'm 26 years old, btw) I undergone about 3 x-ray scans from the call centers I worked for for the past 3 years but they never bothered to give me the results. Pero di daw halata at first glance.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 12 *grade 6*, and doctors from Phil. Siyempre, nakakatakot po nung malaman ko na kailangan ko magpaopera and that the chance of survival is 50/50.

Yung teacher ko po nung grade 6 ay may nirecommend na chiropractor, and we stayed with his kind of treatment for a year, medyo mahal din po kasi.

I wore the brace until 1st year college. 20 years old na po ako..

I've read positive comments about the post op, karamihan po eh from other countries, or private hospitals dito sa pilipinas nag-oopera. eh hindi rin naman po kami ganun kayaman.

    Spinecor brace

anyone know where i can find and have a fitting session for spinecor non-rigid brace in manila?

  19. #299
Here I am back to this thread after several months. Gusto ko lang pong ishare yung noticeable changes sa spine ko after I started to working out (I'm not sure which exercises actually helped or the whole routine. Im also using a machine at the gym for the back). It looked like it really straightened out pero gusto ko pa ring I ipacheck through xray. Anyway, hindi na rin ganoon kadaling sumakit ng likod ko (dati, for example, maglalaba lang ako ng underwear or something sasakit na agad). Im really looking forward na maging straight na **.
