goodheartedmom: yes, it's okay for vaccines to be given kahit delayed na. Except for HIB after age 4, because at that age, hindi na at high risk for HIB ang mga kids, so they don't need it na. Malamang your pedia will not advise you anymore to get it for your child. Ask your pedia about catch-up vaccination sked.

We have something in common, hindi rin ako physician Dentist ako.

Your posts are very helpful as they are very relevant to this thread's topic.

Tanong naman, what is the usual shelf-life of vaccines? (hindi ko kasi alam) Vaccines are temperature sensitive. ( tama ba?). Palagi silang nakalagay sa ref at the office where I work ( I work in a medical/dental clinic).

Mga mommies ang alam ko correct me if im wrong IPD and pcv 7 is almost the same. IPD is much better than rotarix. Confused na din ako sa mga injection. IPD is for pneumococcal disease (lung infection), meningitis (Brain infection), Otitis (ear infection) and bacteremia (bloodstream infection). Rotarix is for Rotavirus (anu yun???). Meron din na mention sa akin vaccine for miningo.

Sa mga mommies... this is what i worry about health center vaccines baka under dosage ang ibigay kay baby or not properly kept under degrees centigrade ang mga storages ng mga vaccines.

siguro isipin mo na lang na investment din sa health ng baby mo 'yon. kase kung ako naman nakikita ko din sa anak ko na hindi sya yung sakitin.. gaya lang yung flu shots malaking bagay din pala yon lalo na sa atin napakatagal ng flu season.. sa mga bata pa na napakadali magkahawahan. malaking chunk din sa expenses pero kahit pano panatag ka naman na protected yung bata all-year round sa kung ano mang sakit na vulnerable sya at that age. re ipd, optional naman yon. for younger babies, (i.e. 1 yo below) ang alam ko mas madami kailangan na shots. pero sasabihin naman ng pedia na optional yon so nasa mommies na din, di naman required. for kids 1 year and older less na yung risk nung disease so lesser din yung reqd shots. yung anak ko who's 2.7 yo she got her pneumococcal vaccine this year lang.

there's always price to pay...knowing also how overworked and overstressed the nurses in our public health ctrs..mahirap din talga.. that's why if we opt to send our kids to public health ctr we have to do our part also, kailangan informed din tayong mga mommies sa complete vaccine sched ng babies natin. btw, nasa last pgs ng baby book yung complete list.

goodheartedmom, I think it's ok to give vaccines kahit late na. Yung nieces ko binigyan ng booster shots kahit na late na. I'm not sure what vaccines in particular though. Ask your pedia about it to be sure.

how did you know it didn't react? my baby's bcg doesn't have any mark, a friend told me it should leave a mark

    5-in-1 costs 2,800
    6-in-1 costs 3,300

    Parang mahal?

I would have to clear that even BABIES who didnt have vaccines are doomed for life. My husband didnt have any vaccine and he is as healthy as anyone else. In fact, studies of vaccine effects have negative aspects too. I have known some parents who chose not to have the vax for their babies.

Smilewarrior, aka Dr Smile, hello! Vaccines have very short shelf life, usually 2 years from date of manufacture. Depende rin sa type of vaccine, some as long as 4 years. Yes, they need to be stored in the ref (4-8degC), not in the freezer though (except for chickenpox vax na dapat frozen).
When I buy from the rep (for my kids' use), i bring my cooler and lots of ice.

Ang dami nang new vaccines in the market na hindi na inabot ng panahon ko, hehe.. Kaya i'm same with most of you- in the dark with regard to IPD, Rotarix, etc.

Thats 3,500.

Nahihilo na ako kung ano ano *** 5in1 at anu *** 6in1. ANu ba difference nung dalawa? *slowness po ako*

@ Mommy camgray: thank you for replying

@ kittykittylala: Hello. I've mentioned I'm not a physician. I just need to mention that vaccination shots need to be delivered/given by a licensed health care professional (which is usually why it's a pediatrician who gives it).

I could be wrong, but vaccines usually cannot be given to a sick child, the child preferably has to be healthy. With this in mind, you can appreciate why a baby's temperature, weight, height are taken and also why a baby is examined every time you bring your child to your pediatrician.

I'll let mommy camgray comment on the purchase of vaccines, but again as far as delivery is concerned, for your baby's safety vaccine shots should be given by a licensed health care professional (preferably a physician).

hi... may nakita akong mga vaccine centers sa mall (sa sm southmall sa top floor eh lapit sa sinehan & they occupy a space ****, di lang kiosk type), anyone tried to go there na ba? mas mura nakita kong prices ng vaccines eh. wanted to ask opinions first before i take my baby there eh... late nadin baby ko sa vaccines nya kse natataon na kapag may money ako for vaccine eh may sakit naman sya... wanted to start on her vaccines again kse natatakot ako sa mga sakit na pde nyang makuha. thanks

    hi kitty,
yes I agree with Smilewarrior. Much as I want to help you save on vaccine cost, it is much better if you get right from your MD. It's always important for vaccines to be handled/transported in cold chain, anything less than that could affect the efficacy.
The thing is, masyadong madami nang transfers mangyayari if I get the vaccine from my friend, then pass it to you. Mas mataas ang risk na hindi ma-maintain properly yung cold chain. Maybe you could drop by that place zlsegura mentioned above. ^
BTW, i don't administer the vaccines myself. (Yikes, couldn't / wouldn't dare give the shots myself! di ko nga sila matingnan habang tinutusok! hehe). I let my pedia still do that.

Your friend is right. That's what my doctor bro told me too. Tuwang tuwa pa naman ako dahil ndi nag-peklat baby ko, yun pala, that meant we had to redo the vaccination

My kids' pedia charges P2500 for the 5-in-1 inclusive of doctor's fees BCG cost us P650, 2 consecutive Flu shots at P1,200 each..

  15. #35
msbles, pinatest mo pa ba? parang ppt ata tawag dun o pinaulit mo na lang agad w/o test? wala bang side effects kung madoble yung bcg?

  16. #36
smilewarrior and mommie camgray thanks for the advise. of course i wont dare to inject my own baby mamya magkamali pa ako. Lagot pa ako! hehehehe... Gusto kasi ng daddy.. if we can purchase the vaccine at much lesser price much better kasi he can find a pedia to inject it for us. Prof fee na lang ang babayaran. Well kung meron naman pedia hindi over mag charge ng vaccine edi mas masaya.

Mommie Rachelle1013 mura naman ng bcg and 5 in 1 mo.

With regards to bcg mark sabi ng pedia ko if before 4 weeks namula *** bcg vaccine it means daw meron daw sa family may TB... pero ang common time frame bago mag mark *** bcg is 4 weeks after the vaccine was given mag kaka mark na *** 8th weeks magsusugat na. Tapos sa lahat ng vaccine yan daw *** pinaka masakit.

  17. #37
    ^^
ganun pala yun? baby's bcg mark appears on her 2nd month birthday and 2 weeks after nagsugat na. pero di siya umiyak or whatsoever dahil sa sakit..

i might ask my pedia about the other vaccines that i've never heard of.. hehe inosente ba? at naku ang mahal pala ng pagpapabakuna.

I found this article over the net to support my previous post.. baka kasi mali pagkakaintindi ko sa pedia ko eh. Slight windang ako that time kasi naturukan na si baby nung ni explain nya sa amin what to expect after the vaccination

BCG vaccination is given as a single injection to the upper left arm. As the injection is given your skin will be stretched slightly and the vaccine injected “intradermally” just under the skin, Intradermal mean that the needle is usually visible under the skin as the injection is given. The injection is given slowly and after it is done you will see a small raised area known as a “blanched bleb” on the skin.

After the vaccination a small red spot usually develops within 2-6 weeks. After a few weeks the spot usually becomes scaly, crusting and with slight bruising. This will eventually heal to form a round flat scar. It is better if you leave the injection site uncovered as this will aid in the healing. In some cases a small shallow ulcer appears. In the rare situation that a reaction occurs medical advice should be sought from your doctor or practice nurse as soon as possible.

Ngayon kaka 3 months pa lang ni baby, *** bcg mark nya parang pigsa na tapos ang pula pula siguro magbabalat na un.

si jennisa dami pa nyang ituturok:

    BCG
    DPT
    DT
    OPV
    Anti-Measles
    MMR
    Hepatitis B
    H. Influenza
    Anti-Chicken Pox
    Hepatitis A

so far naka-4 na sya dyan, so bale 3 turok sa isa, 1st, 2nd and 3rd

    ang mamahal pa naman.

kelangan pa bang makumpleto lahat mga yan? baka kung mapaano na ang baby.

My baby had PPT also. Unless I'm very mistaken, PPT is a diagnostic test given for Primary Complex.

My brother says there's no side effect, but the scar from the second shot might be more noticeable. Indeed, my son's scar is deeper than his cousin's, good thing he's a boy. But at least, I know he's protected
