    Question Vaccines and Vaccinations

Hi mommies... Just want to ask your ideas about vaccinations of our little ones. Its a little bit shocking that nowadays vaccines are so expensive. So most parents probably were shock to know about it. There are lots of vaccination being offered by our pedia like rotarix, infantrix, pentaxim and what not. Are those vaccines very essential to our babies. Right now were already spending 6k just for the vaccines and my son is just 2 months old. How about taking the health center vaccination is it safe?

Hi, Kitty! Both of my kids availed health center immunizations and their healths are superb; although i believe they need boosters after a year; i am not sure, though about the other names your pedia offered, will try to ask around about that

  3. #3
Hi, kitty! i think it also depends on the pedia 'coz some pedia charges more for the same brand of vaccine shots ( IPD, hexavac, pentaxim, etc. ). my child got her hexavac shots with no fever for only 3k which I'm told can costs as much to 5k. my daughter is on booster shots already which cost a lot less compared to what she was given when she was less than a year old. but then again if you really wanna try community health centers.. i think it's ok. pareho din siguro 'yon baka maiiba na lang sa brand. ask your pedia re the complete vaccine sched of the baby then check with your local health ctr the availability of the req'd vaccines. yung wala sila, sa pedia mo na lang. just bring your own needles to be safe na din. good luck.

    Hindi ako mommy .

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. It will all be worth it in the end. The advantage with having vaccinations done in a pediatric office is that the schedule of placement of the vaccines can be monitored.

Most likely, the vaccines will be given at the right time and in the right order. Having a baby book and writing down all the vaccines given in it is definitely a good idea.

The vaccines by themselves are very, very expensive. Ganyan talaga.

Perhaps the only way for the prices to go down is for you to talk to the big companies that manufacture/distribute the vaccines.

My baby got all his most important shots sa Health Center (BCG, DPT, OPV, measles and Hepa-B). Booster shots lang sa pedia, plus HiB and chickenpox.

What are the recommended vaccines for a baby up to 12 months in the Philippines? My baby has had only a TB shot and shots 1 and 2 of the DPT vaccines.

  7. #7
tina11 HEPA B is also important..as for Annika, who's I think is almost a year old na, dapat meron na sya nun..kase Hepa B is given for new born babies here sa Phils.

  8. #8
    BCG is also recommended pala..

  9. #9
tina11, BCG, DPT, Hepa B, H. Influenza. You can ask rin your pedia about schedule of anti-measles, anti-chickenpox and flu shots. my baby just turned one and is scheduled for hepa A shots next month.

mommies, anyone familiar with IPD? i keep seeing the commercial and i'm wondering if the vaccine is necessary.

  10. #10
i paid 2700 for my baby's infanrix hexa(DPT,IPV,HiB,HepaB), no fever ... According to our pedia IPD shots are not necessary here in the philippines unlike in other countries w/c has winter andt if we really like it i should prepared 4200pesos/shot...3 shots plus 1 booster for less than a year old baby.

    tina11, i think skeds are...
    birth- bcg
    2 mos-DPT/ IPV/ HiB/ Hepa B/ IPD
    4 mos-DPT/ IPV/ HiB/ Hepa B/ IPD
    6 mos-DPT/ IPV/ HiB/ Hepa B/ IPD

Thanks! I took a second look at her immunization book (it's not in English kasi, hirap intindihin ) and kasama na pala Hib, Polio, and Hepa B in the 3rd and 5th month immunizations. All-in-one shot pala yun, di lang DPT the third dose is given on the 12th month. Meron ding measles, mumps, and rubella at 18 months and 12 years. Mukhang mas delayed ang schedules dito, but she'll get all of them eventually.

Here's the link to the complete schedule of vaccination in the Philippines according to the Phil Foundation for Vaccination.

    http://www.philvaccine.org/events/eventsdx.html

Since the incidence of certain diseases vary from country to country, the vaccination skeds and recommendations will vary as well. HTH!

PS- it's not all the pharma companies' fault as to why vaccination costs are high. Vaccines really take time and money to develop and manufacture (unlike ordinary drugs). Most pedias charge patients double the price of vaccines. Pentaxim is only 1800php from the company (lower pa for volume orders);doctors charge from 3000php-up for one shot!

OPV (oral polio vaccine) is a must. It's my favorite because drops lang sya under the baby's tongue, walang injection.

My brother says IPD is not necessary in the Philippines. Those statistics are overrated. Sure, 1 out of every 4 babies who get the IPD disease die, but just how many babies DO get it in the Philippines at all???

Hello there. I don't mean to pry. May I ask, are you a physician?

  16. #16

  17. #17
i know that very expensive ang mga immunizations ng mga babies but for me its for their future naman ito.kesa magsisi ka when he/she get the disease they're not supposed to get. Think of it as their investments for their life.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd say, better late than never.

For example, BCG is supposed to be given at birth, but the first time they gave it to Josh, it didn't react as it should, so I had it redone at nine months (very late, right?) and the doctor never complained, so I guess it's alright.

smilewarrior: i'm not a physician po. dati lang ako med rep for vaccines..

goodheartedmom: yes, it's okay for vaccines to be given kahit delayed na. Except for HIB after age 4, because at that age, hindi na at high risk for HIB ang mga kids, so they don't need it na. Malamang your pedia will not advise you anymore to get it for your child. Ask your pedia about catch-up vaccination sked.

Mga mommies ang alam ko correct me if im wrong IPD and pcv 7 is almost the same. IPD is much better than rotarix. Confused na din ako sa mga injection. IPD is for pneumococcal disease (lung infection), meningitis (Brain infection), Otitis (ear infection) and bacteremia (bloodstream infection). Rotarix is for Rotavirus (anu yun???).

Sa mga mommies... this is what i worry about health center vaccines baka under dosage ang ibigay kay baby or not properly kept under degrees centigrade ang mga storages ng mga vaccines. Do those vaccines needs to be kept sa ref?

Baby Kyan ko ang first vaccine na nakuha nya is for Hepa B. Nung nag 1 month *** tsaka lang binigay *** BCG. Ngayon nga lang lumalabas *** mark nung vaccine.
