Yep, given his prior postings, Electronic Dead is definitely in the biz.

Translating and writing down the script (trying to make the balance between comprehension and being faithful to the original Japanese or Korean; better if the scriptwriter(s) is a fan him/herself), and then six hours or more of dubbing a 27-minute episode aren't jokes (that's from one dubber I know of). Then there's a backlog of work that has to be finished with; and even if they have the series done with, the dubbing studio suddenly gets another set of shows to take on.

As if that wasn't enough, they're all too conscious about the reactions of the fandom (yes, some of them lurk around on the forums of the TV networks to read comments and criticisms about the quality of their work); it's really painful when the network suddenly cancels a show they labored on for too long.

It costs the networks millions of pesos to acquire even a quarter-season (13 episodes) of anime, and with that much money riding on the acquisition along with the huge expectations of the fans, the dub studio will have to watch every word they make or the internet will heckle them mercilessly.



If you were around in 1999 and the local Tagalog versions of Evangelion or Ruruoni Kenshin were been around for you to see and hear, they might as well blown you away completely. Delivery, proper tone of voice and flow becomes necessary, along with the right voices and good scripting to knock the socks off the audience.

In cases of shows such as School Rumble (the Hero TV version), it becomes necessary to add some subtitles or footnotes to make the otherwise cryptic "moonrunes" (or floods of kanji) be known to the average viewer. And there are some who have decided to retain the Japanese honorifics alone to distinguish who's the elder or the younger.



There are some real anime fans and "Asianovela" afficionados who are now working as professional scriptwriters/translators (there's a writer who handled the first 40 Tagalized episodes of Naruto Shippuuden; sometimes she has to double as a dubber herself), so they understand what's handling the material is all about. And they do their homework like they read up the character profiles and the spoilers until 4 in the morning.

Before I go, all of what you've written down on the blog has "purist" tendency smelling all over, so you've got to see what the dubbers really do. Time to open your eyes.

Three years on, you truly made sense. juliusborne seemed like an idiot. As for his assertion that fansubbers do a better job, hey, even people who fansubbed Parasite Eve get it wrong at minsan, hindi pa faithful to the original script in several cases, especially for stuff na never pang nilabas from Japan.

Anyway, a guy from Creative said to that once you apply for Voiceworx, better forget everything you think you know about VA work, because the instructors could drive you to the ground and rebuild your perception of it as it should be. I know, nagapply ako for their next batch in July. Sana tuluy-tuloy na.

Know what, the dub script for Gundam 00 was actually okay, but no offense to the VA cast, but that was some awful voice work. Sometimes it worked, most of the time it didn't.

I'm watching the EN dub released sa Cartoon Network, and I can definitely say that the Hero version doesn't hold a candle. I just wished na may subtitles yung kanta ng mga orphans, and the CN dub had English labels for the various scenes and locations, kaya yung casual viewer sa Hero would have no idea kung saan nangyari ang eksena unless it is said. Get this: si Alexx Agcaoili ang nagdirect diyan.

Alam kong naging dubber yan sa Initial D 4th Stage sa Animax at SOBRANG SAGWA ng performance nya dun! Parang daig pa yung mga dubbers sa YGO Duel Monsters sa QTV 11.

I'm watching the first few eps ng InitialD Stage IV sa HERO...more flowing na yung dub at the first ep pa lang it's an improvement from the cr@pstain Matteo and Angel made seven years ago.

fave kong dubbers dahil una idol ko sila, pangalawa, mabait sila sa 'kin... at pangatlo, mentor ko sila...

1. alexx agcaoili - dami nang dinub nito... pero fave ko yung sa samurai x siyempre, si Sanosuke...

2. monty repuyan - si vincent sa ghostfighter ang fave kong dinub niya... dami ko na din natutunan sa kanya...

3. daisy carino - fave ko na dinub niya si marina sa rayearth! ^_^/jeff utanes - isa pang idol! he's the guy with the thousand voices.

4. teng masilongan/lyrah padilla - si ate teng nakasama ko sa redubbed slayers:si lina inverse, idol ko 'to talaga... si ate lyrs naman, naku isa pang madami nang nadub pero fave ko siya sa princess hours kasi dun ko siya 1st nakasama at nakilala, siya si monique and my dubbing director din...

5. glenda resurrection(tama ba spelling?) - si jang geum, kasama ko din sa betty la fea, bait na tao po nito.
