well, okay siya sa kin, being a film graduate but given the chance to shift into an IT career. can't really mention specifics on salary, but you get the usual insurances, healthcare, etc.

i'm enjoying my stay here so far.

  3. #3
does it have a bond? what's your position there?

  4. #4

can you at least give a range? is it higher than 20k?

yup, i'm new and just a trainee. specialization on java. i can't be a pro hire or be floored immediately, since i'm a film graduate (go figure, haha).

for guys like me (trainees), there is a bond, and yes, it's for two years. i think it's standard practice for IT companies to leverage bonds on hired trainees. i'm not complaining, since i get to learn java, j2ee, xml, uml, etc. while being paid as a regular.

no, the pay's not higher than 20K, though i wish it was. haha. then again, i'm quite happy with the sum i'm getting as a trainee. we're slated to get raises upon completion of the training and again upon regularization, so the money's okay for me.

i got an offer from another IT company for a trainee position (COBOL), but it paid the same amount and carried a 3-year bond. so i took SVI's offer.

most other companies are offering trainee positions for COBOL. while COBOL is a very marketable skill here and in other countries, i specifically wanted to do java. personal choice lang. only SVI had a java programmer trainee opening when i was looking for work, so that also clinched the decision for me.

it seems as though SVI has been getting a load of projects, and they're looking to fast track trainees to be able to move up to regular and then to senior positions quicker. everyday i see new faces coming in for exams, so i guess there really is a need to fill up positions in the company, which i see as a positive since it shows, in part, that a company is growing.

also, i've been blessed to have very nice people as batchmates in training, as well as a good professor and a good training head. we all help out in learning java, and no one gets left behind. basically, people here are nice, from peers to supervisors.

then again, Filipinos are pleasant people to begin with. haha.

I can't say if SVI really has lots of projects on the horizon or in SVI parlance, 'on the pipeline'. The reason, really, as to why SVI is in a hiring spree right now is not necessarily because the company is growing but rather to replace those who are resigning which is really alot from managers to HR to developers. I am not saying this to dampen your spirit. I just want to keep it real and provide an insight to the question of the threadstarter. Anyways, may you be tooled very well with the technologies you'll learn and be assigned to actual projects immediately. I wish you all the best with your stay at SVI!

Well, turnover in the IT industry is nothing new. I'm quite aware of that already. Thanks for the support, still.

Yea. I was also apprehensive that they require trainees to undergo night shift? I am more of a morning person and I do more in the morning rather than in the evening.. so do they really have night shift there and for how long?

It depends on what project you get assigned to.

Hi vinzer, anong company ang nagoofer ng training ng cobol na ang bond ay 3yrs?

  14. #14
so far, our batch hasn't been asked to go on a night shift yet, and it seems like it will stay that way until the end of the training.

as ma'am DaNa8 said, going on a night shift will ultimately depend on what project you will be assigned to once you're assigned to a project.

alwin, in respect for the other company, i would have to decline to name that company, as i'm not sure if they're okay with people not connected with them telling details about their job offers. it's a respect thing for me.

I agree with what faraway said. Indeed people are resigning from the company and they needed trainees/programmers to present to clients once the projects in the pipeline are approved. I think most of the employees are already new hires.

Trainings can also be held at nights. The web batch after us had trainings on evenings. But once you get deployed, nightshifts are based on the project.

And one more thing, trainees in Java or Cobol doesn't really mean you'll get into a Java or Cobol project. I was trained in Java but has been assigned to a non-Java project.

US... how do i know? well.. i was once a part of this beloved company... and i did enjoyed my stay

I used to work at SVI companies/subsidiaries for 2 years as a Developer.
