Aba, doon na ako magpapagamot sa hindi lang magaling na doktor pero well-behaved at compassionate pa.

CHED only recognizes 3 centers of excellence in medical education:

    UP-PGH
    UST
    Cebu Institute of Medicine

and of the three, we know UP is par excellence.

If I'm the AFP controller and I need a place for peace, quiet (and protection), I'd choose the UST Hospital. UP-PGH? eeewww...

My friend told me that it could be the PR factor from private hospital doctors working there... they need to be nice. However, you can tell that they are sincere.

I must stress that I don't generalize doctors from PGH and JRMMC as snobbish... only a good number of them.

Haha. I guess most of the uncompassionate UST graduates went to PGH for residency then since I met a lot of them over there while I was doing my clerkship and internship!

"Compassion" is such a hard thing to assess since it can't be objectively measured. And, how many doctors will you really meet in your lifetime? If you meet 10 of them from each school, is that really a big enough sample to judge which school "produces" compassionate doctors?

Furthermore, I'm not sure that compassion is really LEARNED in medical school. Either you have it or you don't. If you're the most callous person on earth, sending you to UST will not turn you into the most softhearted physician on the planet.

And, last but not least, a smart physician will at least learn to fake their lack of compassion once they start their private practice. Can you really tell 100% of the time who is sincere?

Compassion should not even be used as a criteria to determine the best medical school. If you use compassion, why not throw in "sunny disposition"?

Anyway, I don't think there's really any doubt that UP-PGH is the best medical school. Selectivity based on MCAT is a far cry from everybody else. Board passing is likewise head and shoulders above the rest. You can deny it all you want, but deep inside, I know you all concede.

Well, of course we're not talking about which hospital you would choose to be admitted in. We're talking about the quality of training and of the doctors produced. I would die before I choose to be admitted in PGH, but it IS the best medical school.

    SUX2BU and rx_Tomasino:

Thanks so much for doing our work for us.

Your lack of eloquence and inability to give concrete and meaningful examples to prove a point surely strengthen the argument that UP is superior to UST.

    Much obliged.
