    @Cookie_Mobster:

Are you being treated for your dislocated spine? The neck spasms can be due to that. Your doctor can prescribe you medications to help relax the neck muscles so that you can sleep better.

Please see a psychiatrist so that he/she can help you with your depression and insomnia. The "neck popping" that you mentioned can be a symptom of Obsessive-Compulsive Anxiety Disorder (OCAD), which is entirely different from OCD.

You might be obsessing about your neck pain and your compulsion is the "neck popping" in order to counteract the pain. Am I right?

OCAD is acquired, meaning there is an identifiable cause, and is recognized by patients as absurd. They try to resist doing the repetitive acts and fear that they may lose control.

OCD, on the other hand, is a personality disorder (you're born with it), lifelong, and pervasive. These people are perfectionists and are excessively stubborn.

You need to talk to someone especially if you've been thinking about suicide. Please have a friend/loved one accompany you to a psychiatrist for proper evaluation. No pills to pop for now. Sorry.

to doctors/ psych out there, is there such thing as seasonal depression?

curious lang po ako. totoo bang may ganitong type ng depression?
    what are the symptoms?

  5. #265
yes. seasonal affective disorder. This only happens in the temperate and northern regions of the planet. Symptoms are more of depression although i'am not an expert on this subject.

The cause is theorized to be the alteration of the body clock. More hours of darkness and less sunlight seems to be the cause. The amount of sunlight and darkness we get in the tropics (philippines) is more or less constant unlike in certain regions of europe and the US. Therefore the condition is rare in the country..if there ever is a reported case...

What's your basis for saying your friend is depressed? If your friend has continuously lost interest in work, social activities (gimiks, get-togethers,etc.), has distanced from close relationships, poor appetite and weight loss, prolonged insomnia, etc. Maybe it's time you should bring him/her to a psychiatrist. If you're not sure, have your friend talk to someone, like a counselor, or bring him/her to a psychologist first, then he/she will refer your friend to a psychiatrist if it's really needed.
Thanks Doc.Marbles for finding time to answer my querry/ies. Along
w/ d other doctors here who unselfishly give free advice/s, may your tribe

I don't mind receiving private messages for those who want to ask for further info but trouble is I might not be able to respond right away, being in this unsteady state that I am in right now. But if I could, I'd even give you directions on how to get there.

Unfortunately, they don't have a website that I know of but they do have an account with Friendster where you can find the contact numbers if you want to give them a ring. It's at http://www.friendster.com/25526103

By the way, they also have a facility for mentally ill patients and a rehab center for drug dependents but for my own standards I could say it's quite pricey. Other than that, I'd say it will be worth your money.
Is Family Link Phil. still active. We've been calling their contac no.
but to no avail. Thanks and God Bless!

I CAN'T take it anymore!!!! Any psychiatrist in the house?

    Hello Pinoyexchangers,

I am a regular poster using a different nick at other forums. This is my first time no post on this forum since I wanted to ask for help on a problem I've been experiencing for years. I know this is more of a mind/psychological problem rather than a health/body problem but I couldn't find any other forum here that I could post my problem.

    Anyway here goes,

Im a person who's suffering from SOCIAL ANXIETY. By definition, this is an experience of fear, apprehension or worry regarding social situations and being evaluated by others. I had excellent academic records when I was in school but now at work, it's seriously affecting my career a lot and often putting me in really traumatic embarassing situations. As time passes by, I think it's getting worse. I often would feel fear, nervousness, automatic negative thinking cycles, racing heart when im with people I am intimidated with (bosses, co workers etc.)

The thing is, it's physical symptoms are the ones really having a tremendous aeffect on me. pounding heart, sweating, shaking, blushing, muscle tension, upset stomach and diarrhea...I always feel like I want to throw up.....*sigh*...

I've tried opening this problem up to my parents before but they won't understand. I really want to have this problem off my back once are for all, it's pulling me down, it's always making me feel inferior and I always get myself embarrassed. I am an extremely shy and itroverted person and this happens a lot when Im with people. People I am intimidated with.

I would appreciate any form of help like if anyone knows any psychologist I could go to or could recommend me any anti-anxiety or anti-depressant drug I could take no reduce this.

    ^ I'm not a psychiatrist.

Trust me, you are not alone.

Your excellent academic record is certainly an asset. Grades reflect the amount of effort you put into a subject, so good grades show you have both the discipline and the tenacity to get the job done.

More than dealing with facts and figures though, succeeding in the workplace requires us to be good with dealing with people.

We don't only need to be good thinkers, we also need to be good leaders.

Someone once told me: " If you want to be heard, you need to learn to listen". As hard as it is ( and I'm speaking from personal experience ) you'll have to learn to put your fears aside and start observing your co-workers closely. Try and figure out what makes them tick and what are there concerns. You need to use your listening ears. You may be surprised with what you find.

With empathy, you'll be able to better relate with other people.

    Good luck.

Please wait for the reply of the physicians.

Thats I want to do first right now. To put my fears aside. The anxiety I am suffering is really serious. Ilang beses na ko napapahiya dito sa office dahil diyan. I sweat a lot, my mouth and throat gets extremely dry, I feel like I wanna vommit sometimes..etc..etc...

Berdgator61, I sent you a pm with the list of psychiatrists. I do hope you'd make the time to have a consult real soon so that your problem can be dealt with. If you really have social anxiety, no amount of personal advice will help unless the cause for the anxiety is identified and managed appropriately with cognitive therapy and medications (if necessary).

I think naturally, the first thing you would do is try to talk about the problem with your loved one. The thing is, they will never understand you. They will always say, "oh that's just regular shyness, mingle with people and eventually those fears will be gone in no time". Well they make it sound that easy but it ain't easy for us individuals suffering from social phobia or social anxiety. The point is, they cannot understand us. Extroverts NEVER understand us introverts or us people suffering from social anxiety or social phobia. The only people I think who could understand us are the psychiatrist.

Dr marbles, it pains me a lot on how introverted or socially anxious people like us are being treated, looked down and misjudged by society. It's true, Extroverts rule the world and they make life for us a living hell because they can never understand us.

Sorry if I've done a bit of ranting here. Just expressing how I feel about this thing.

I find myself slipping into mild depression sometimes. I don't know why but every time I go into it, I find myself writing in my makeshift notepad/diary on what I am feeling.

But recently I found out that seeking the sun will make you less depressed and more optimistic. I tried going out more under the sun and felt better. Now, every time I get the chance, I walk under the sun to clear my thoughts and raise my spirits up.

to ALL accommodating doctors here (may your tribe increase) ang
obsessive-compulsive ba ay kailangan ng gamot or more of psycho-
therapy lang kaya pwede na ang psychologist, not necessarily a psy-
chiatrist na mahal ang professional/consultation fee.
kung kailangan ng gamot, ano usually ang binibigay. also, what is d
difference between an Anxiety Disorder to that of a Personality dis-
    order, alin ang madaling solutionan.
again, sino ba ang dapat konsultahin ng isang may Obsessive-Com-
pulsive behavior prob., just a psychologist or a psychiatrist?
    Thanks & God Bless!

^ With what they have to deal with as part of their specialty, I honestly don't think Psychiatrists here in the Philippines overcharge at all.

Mahirap ang ginagawa nila kaya nararapat lamang na bayaran sila ng tama.
