Maganda ba secondary education sa Letran?
Hahaha salamat![]()
Ariba Letran! buhayin ang ruisenores!
What has happened.
As of now, the admin is planning to have 2 sections per year in the basic education department, para narin siguro sa K12 program.
*by the way, pagsasamahin na sa iisang building ang elem at hs.![]()
I just wanna ask if they are accepting second semester transferees? To be specific, sa Communication Arts. Thank you sa makakasagot.![]()
I don't know why they had to accept girls in the grade and high school when sta. rosa is just around the corner. siguro nga nag dwindle na ang enrollment in both departments.
Do you know that the site of Colegio San Agustin in Dasma Village was first offered to Letran by the Ayalas. The friars declined the offer for reasons I don't know.
"Commission on Higher Education NCR Director Catherine Castañeda, Ph.D. discussed the K to 12 grading system and how to respond to its challenges while attaining quality assurance; the developments that are expected of higher education schools; and the requirements needed for a school to be considered as autonomous.
She gave her own insights and prediction regarding Letran, saying: "I see that you have good facilities in Communication, you have centers of development and centers of excellence, [therefore] Letran will become autonomous by 2020."
On the other hand, President France Marie Padiz of the Philippine Society for Quality did not find it necessary to elaborate on management since "Letran is already midway to quality." She shared some tips that would make organizations successful. After discussing the levels of quality service, she challenged Letran to continuously aim for a higher satisfaction rate among customers and stakeholders."

Re co-ed grade school and high school, I was one of the protesters against this move. But now, I realize that the reason for the move was because of the transfer of the commercial districts of Metro Manila from Binondo, Escolta and Sta. Cruz in the '50s, '60s and '70s to Makati and Greenhills from the '80s onwards. Before, Letran had students in grade school and high school who had parents working in the Manila area, even if they had to go home to Quezon City or Paranaque or Cavite. But with the transfer of the commercial districts to Makati, etc., along with the springing up of new schools nearer the residential areas, then Letran's basic education units in far-off Intramuros began to lose their drawing power. Perhaps the drying up of the market may have been the reason for the transfer of the La Salle-Manila GS and HS to Alabang, even when La Salle already had their Greenhills school.
The market moved. Letran GS and HS did not -- at least, not in Metro Manila. When we eventually set up our branches, they were in Calamba, Laguna (which I hear is doing well, even in basic education) and in Abucay, Bataan.
Speaking of Greenhills, this was developed by Letran grads -- Francisco Ortigas and Vicente Madrigal (who were friends with one Manuel Luis Quezon). That was why Letran was given first dibs at setting up a grade school and high school where La Salle Greenhills is now. However, the Dominicans declined, ostensibly because they did not want to teach the sons of the rich. So that was how LSGH came to be.
Actually, I learned this story from a Dominican priest who used to be an official in Letran Manila and then headed up Letran Calamba. I don't know about that Ayala story, though.
You may ask, what about college in Letran Manila? Why is it that the population there is increasing while the basic education units' population is decreasing? Well, unlike the grade school and high school students, college students do not really have to be fussed over by parents (in terms of transportation and such). So it does not really matter that much if the Letran college department is in Intramuros or in Sampaloc. Students will still enroll in it if the courses are worthwhile. The very fact that the college population is rising is a testament to this. The I-Comm and IT units are doing well, the Psych and PoliSci departments also have their own draws, plus Letran has always been strong in business, particularly in Marketing. The newer courses like HRM, Food Tech, Nutrition, and Engineering have also been drawing a lot of interest from applicants and students, so I don't think the college department has a marketing problem at all.
So, if you are asking -- how then will we be able to shore up the population of Letran grade school and high school? My answer is simple. Move to a place with a high middle-class population density, and/or near a commercial area. Off-hand, that may be the QC area, or if we want to stay in Manila/Pasay area, in the Manila Bay reclamation area (if lots are even available here). That, plus give the grade school and high school something more than just a historical brand name. Make it stand for something -- science/mathematics, business-oriented, language-learning-focused, etc. I hear our Fil-Chi alumni were suggesting the the GS/HS add Mandarin to the curriculum, so there will be a reason why they will enroll their children there. I don't know what the focus should be, really. Just that there has to be a focus. If we do that, then maybe, just maybe, the GS/HS will be able to turn things around.
hi guys, newbie here:
just want some of your opinion, maganda ba ang accounting sa letran? kasi nursing grad ako and plano ko mag-aral ulit ng accounting. gusto ko sana yung school na hindi na ganun kahigpit but will still help me pass the boards. i'm still thinking letran or lyceum= para kasing maganda yung environment diyan sa intramuros; psba din kaya lang parang crowded na dun.
what do you guys think? hope to hear some of your opinions. thanks!
