Hi!Guys pa help ****. I need your opinion. I had my medical exam last Tuesday and yesterday tinawagan ako ng HR kasi may scoliosis daw ako. For that, pending pa ang medical status ko and they advise me to consult a pulmonologist and acquire a fit to work clearance. Tanong ko lang, pag may scoliosis ba ay dna ako mabibigyan ng fit-to-work clearance? I've no idea na may scoliosis *** ako. Please I need ur opinion on this. Tia!

Never kong na-experience ang mag-work sa Pinas (left the country when I was 16) kaya hindi ako aware sa mga pre-employment medical check-ups na pinag-uusapan ninyo. Eto ang question ko....Are these tests really necessary? . Oo, dito sa USA, may mga pre-employment screening rin, pero most of the time Urine Drug Screen lang, at kung healthcare-related naman, minsan sinasamahan rin ng TB screening.

I work at a medical lab, at never pa akong naka-experience or naka-receive ng order from employers or Dr's offices asking for a CBC, Urinalysis, or a fecalysis for that matter, as part of a pre-employment requirement.
In the United States, medical insurance is almost present in the employed. Even if extensive screening for chronic and life threatening diseases is not done, the cost of medical care if ever one gets a major illness is not shouldered by the employer.

In the Philippines, most of those seeking for employment are applying for work abroad such as seafarers and cruise ship staff. The logistical problems that come up in addition to the cost of treatment becomes an issue for the employer when a life changing sickness crops up. There will be an issue of repatriation, unfamiliarity with foreign health care systems, employee compensation and long term care. They would rather weed out those fit for the job from those who are not. There is an abundance of applicants in our country willing to risk life and limb just to get employed abroad. Moreso, there are Filipino applicants who will conceal their sickness just to get employed overseas.

In the local employment scene, the rational for pre-employment medical exams follows the same line of thought as of those applying for jobs abroad. However, health insurance is not available to everyone.

Hi doc. My kuya told me that he have Hepa B sa last test pero kasalukuyan siyang nagwowork. Nagwoworry siya sa APE niya. Matatanggal ba siya sa company kapag ganun?
Ano ba tinitignan sa blood test?

Early repolarization is generally considered a benign ECG finding. There is some evidence though that people with this finding are more prone to develop arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat).

It depends on the company policy, though I don't see any reason (barring severe complications of hepatitis B) why people with chronic hepatitis B should be removed from work.

Gud day guys. After my Pre-Employment Medical Examination, HR staff told me that I must retake my Chest X-ray because They found something wrong in my lungs. Question, Is it possible not to hire me if the results will be positive? or They will give me a time to recover from my disease? and is it possible also to work while recovering? BTW I'm from Aegis People Support. Thanks in Advance

What do you mean by positive? If you are pertaining to Pulmonary tuberculosis, you will just have to start treatment. If you are recommended for treatment, start taking the drugs. The period for the whole treatment regimen takes an average of 9 months. You may be allowed to work already after the 2nd week of taking the medications. At this point, you are not already considered communicable.

A test for hyperthyroidism is not part of the usual routine for pre-employment unless it is specified by your employer. But you should disclose hyperthyroidism in your medical history. Hyperthyroidism is not a reason for denial of your employment. You do not have to be concerned. As long as you are having treatment or maintenance medication, and that your condition is not expected to affect your work or your co-workers, then you may be employed.

Again, full disclosure is essential. You will be asked if you have a current illness and you have to tell the truth. Don't worry, the truth shall set you free.
