the generation x idol! i love catcher in the rye! all the time i'm in college i felt a lot like him, especially in my first two college years that was spent in agonizing soliloquy over the phoney students crawling UP campus. goddamn them.

I also like Holden's character. I can totally relate with his unwillingness to grow up. It's better to be a catcher in the rye than to be a regular working adult this country, am I right?

Holden was probably the first literary figure i also fell in love with! Grabe. Now I can't believe (?) that Holden is still stuck in that age, while I'm older and know better...

yup!yup!yup! holden is such a cool character!!! he's just... I actually dunno how to describe him...i hope they don't buy the rights of the book and turn it into a movie, they'll destroy such amazing literary work!

    Cool

in love with holden caulfield? but he's supposed to be a ****** up character, right? holden and sylvia plath's esther greenwood (the bell jar) are right up there as two of the great fictional icons of depression.

here's an interesting question: if holden were real and alive today, do you think you'd be among those kind of people he liked, or would he lump you together with all those phonies he despised?

Talking Hypothesis regarding being in love with Holden

I think the reason why a lot of readers, specially young readers, fall in love with Holden is because of their ability to relate with his thoughts. Being in love, in this case, may not necessarily be romantic in nature.

The book Catcher in the Rye is written in stream of consciousness style. Holden, himself, did not openly voice out his thoughts. Notice that the book is an expression of Holden's thoughts . He never did confront the people he so hated. I guess a lot of readers could relate to him and in so being, felt one with him.

hmmm...i guess so. in a way din kasi...the reasons why i got a huge crush on holden is that he's very, very human. he swears!!! and i bet i used to (and i still do, i think) swear like that. and i think that i'll be one of the people he'll hate. and i despise him at the same time. but crazy me...i find guys like that sexy!!!

holden is a soulmate! If he were real, we'll be sitting in Sunken Garden, *****ing and despising all the 'sosy and pa-sosy crowd' in the campus. and now that i'm working, well, i can just imagine what holden will be like. it'll be like watching myself. totally ------up individual!

I'm grateful to old Mr. Butch Dalisay for requiring us to read The Catcher in the Rye for our Hum I finals last week.

Ahh, Holden Caulfield. I fell in love with him too.

I hate phoney people almost as much as Holden does, but I sometimes find myself to be one of the people Holden so much despised. Hmmm... labo ba? But what I can totally relate to is his being "yellow."

I guess there are certain situations where people have no choice but to be a little phoney. Still, the definition of being "phoney" is quite subjective. What seems phoney to us may be authentic to others...

I really hate it when girls go crying over some phony who's eccentrically tall, with gray hair and all--It's depressing, if you want to know the truth. It kills me.

when somebody say's someobody's goddam hot they really don't mean it. They really don't. people are like that, they just sorta like horse around and stuff.
