I noticed this topic and I couldn't help but check it out.

I am not from Mindoro but my paternal grandfather was from Mindoro. My father grew up in Bongabong and Naksib, Oriental Mindoro.

I just can't exactly remember kung anong year naging national. I think, way back 1992. So, What course did you take up? Ayos lang ba ang life-life(buhay-buhay) natin diyan? Hindi ko alam kung updated ka but I wanted to tell you na ang High School ng calintaan ay nasa Red Hills na ngayon. Batch namin ang pioneer ng school organ under the name of Red Hills pero ngayon ay binago na nila, ginawa na nilang "Ang Bundok" kung saan si Mr. Villanueva At Ms. Olga Labrador (opo, miss pa rin siya magpasa-hanggang ngayon at magpakailanman na siguro)ang advisers. I just can't think of anything more to say as of this moment malibang na lang if you have some questions to ask. I'll gather my thoughts na lang muna then I'll make kuwento na lang whenever. (conyo ba?) he! he! wala lang. till next time.

anyway,i guess you're right.development in our province is too slow compared to the nearby provinces.but if i should be asked,i want our town remain as what as it is.because i always wanted to reminisce those old days when i always get home.like during rainy seasons.people used to travel by 6x6 trucks instead of jeepneys kapag baha ang Buswangga River or the worst mamamangka ka para makatawid sa kabila.pero enjoy di ba? and one more thing i miss is yung ingay ng mga palaka sa gabi (sarap matulog).basta gusto ko lahat dati pa din. nakakasawa ang buhay sa syudad kaya we need a place like our town to unwind to.there's no place like home, ika nga.

Anyways, Classmate ko si chinggay from elementary 'til early days of our high school. I'm not saying this because kababayan kita but because it's the truth.)

One thing I have noticed ay parang naging malungkot yata ang bakuran ninyo.

I don't have any intention of making you feel sad thru this thread. But if you want to cry, I can make you cry. Sama ko ba?

Sige na po. Hanggang sa muli...

I just don't know how to explain it clearly but literally from the word itself, moderators are the ones who are responsible in pacifying conflicts and manage difficult situations arising from every thread. Each forum has a moderator or several moderators and their main job is to make sure that the Policies/User Agreements are being observed and that they have the authority to move, delete or close a thread whenever is necessary.

    Mangyan Roots and History:

For two decades, Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro has been the venue of one of the country’s most colorful celebrations – the Sanduguan Festival. Every November 15, the main thoroughfares in the city are closed to vehicles to give way to the dancing parade. Various groups of students from different levels re-enact the first barter trade through dance interpretations. They garb themselves in catchy costumes that are made from materials found in their hometown, such as calamansi and bananas. Tourists come in scores to join this yearly event.
Oriental Mindoro’s local historian, Florante Villarica, started this festival aimed at reviving an age-old forgotten Mangyan tradition and celebrating it in the liveliest way possible. He discovered the first barter trade relations between the Mangyans and Chinese during 900 AD – the earliest record of trade in the history of China.

The Mangyans bartered their goods with the clothing and food from the Chinese. Aside from trading, the tribesfolk and Chinese gathered at the beach for some cultural exchange. The Mangyans taught the Chinese native games, while the foreigners performed the lion dance and Chinese drama. Unlike the Spaniards, the Chinese never intended to rule Mindoro but instead they befriended the people who lived there. The word Sandugo, the root word of Sanduguan, means brotherhood or friend in the Mangyan dialect.

Mangyans were the first to inhabit the island of Mindoro. Comprising 10% of the whole Mindoro population, the Mangyans are composed of twelve tribes, each with its own language, culture, and way of life. There are the Iraya, Batangan, Buid, Hanuno'o, Alangan, Ratagnon, Tagaydan (or Tadyawan), Bangon, Pula, Buhid, Nauhan, and Furuan.

For centuries, they lived peacefully along the coastal areas of Oriental Mindoro, where they fished for a living. That was until migrants from nearby islands settled on the island. To avoid disputes, the mild-mannered and peace-loving people gave up their land, moved to the mountains, and came down only for food and other necessities.

Sadly, they have been treated as second class citizens like other indigenous people in the world -- for years often exploited, neglected, and discriminated against by lowlanders. They have experienced being misjudged as uneducated and uncivilized people. They often struggle with poverty. They survive by farming root crops and fruits, which is the only livelihood they know.

They also lack proper health care, education, and employment opportunities, all of which the government should provide. On a more regular basis, they have had to face insults whenever they come from the mountains, but because of their submissive nature, they ignore these offensive remarks and leave without defending themselves.

Fortunately, the young generation of Mangyans today are aware of the situation of their people and are now striving to gain back the respect their ancestors lost. After many centuries, the descendants of the first Mangyans are struggling to keep the tradition and heritage of their ancestors in the lowlands. And the only effective way they know how is through education, a privilege that their forefathers had been deprived of for so long. Bringing only hope for a better future, many young Mangyans leave their families in the mountains to go to Calapan City where they can study education and business management in college, hopefully to eventually help their people.

They partly owe this new found empowerment to the Mangyan Mission, a non-government organization established by a German priest, Fr. Ewald Dinter. The Mangyan Mission is the church’s response to assimilate the Mangyans into the mainstream of Filipino society, while attempting to preserve their ethnic identity. Education is one of the mission’s main objectives. The mission believes that the Mangyans will have to learn the lowland way of reading and writing, otherwise they will always be mistreated. At least, that has been their experience so far.

As part of the mission’s vision on education, the Mount Tabor Mangyan Education Foundation was founded to give deserving Mangyans an opportunity to be educated in the best schools in Calapan City. The students are given shelter and educational support, and are also reunited with their native rituals. There the students can perform the Ambahan, a centuries-old Mangyan way of communication in the form of writing, singing, poem reading, and music. Most of these students plan on returning to their families and relatives in the mountains after graduation to share what they have learned.

The Sanduguan Festival has given the Mangyans a renewed appreciation of their rich history and traditions. The Mangyans are proud to see that the lowlanders dance their traditional dance and wear their traditional clothing. The festival has become more than a fun-filled occasion. It has become a joyous way to reunite all Mindorenyos in heart and mind.

Of the 11 municipalities in the province, nine are populated by Mangyans. They represent the impoverished, underprivileged and unschooled group of people in the country. Through this program, at least 90% of the Mangyans have gone through literacy training classes handled by para-teachers and have become functionally literate. Health consciousness among the Mangyans was heightened as a result of training conducted by Mangyan para-teachers and medical missions. The primitive farming techniques and the "slash and burn" system were replaced by sloping agricultural land techniques. Some of the Mangyans were able to acquire carabao, farm implements and shared tractors for farming. Cooperative store, small community chapel, community training center with demonstration facilities, a water tank with distribution pipes and a school building were also set-up. Three Mangyan cooperatives tapped the P15 million revolving fund of the Provincial Livelihood Support Program to finance their livelihood projects.

ako rin walang plans for nov.

after graduation, dependent (in other words, palamunin) pa rin ako dahil i still have to take the cpa board exams on may 2001 kaya after grad full-time review naman kaya di pa ako magwo-work... siguro i'll take a vacation after the board exam before finding a job... uwi muna akong mindoro bago ako magwork...
