This hunk knows all about fashion and style. “Yes, Inno Sotto provides my outfits for formal occasions and events. And I love his clothes. But for my other gigs, apart from the sponsored clothes (from brands I endorse) I wear on TV, it’s all pretty much my choice,” he says. “I like that I could choose my clothes and am able to just express (myself).” He is obviously confident in his developed taste, although he quickly adds; “ I can get impractical with taste. I think of it (the expense) as an investment, when I shop for clothes. . .mostly abroad. You want to look different, stylish, fashion-forward. But the last time – at Melrose Place, etc. . . I maxed out my cards, my pocket money! Same when I was in Europe.” Did I imagine it, or was there a flash of shopaholic for a second or two?

So what is the style he has found that suits him and expresses who he is? Piolo can’t seem to decide, having said earlier that he’s a safe dresser, to his next claim, “I used to go for safe, conventional clothes. Now – it depends on my mood. It’s a matter of expressing myself. I don’t wanna try too hard.” He turns to Rikka [Dylim] to help define his chosen style. “I’d say, rugged-clean. I know it’s a contradiction, but that’s how he comes across.” Then, “Let’s just say he’s the only one I have seen who can carry and get away with white shoes. . .white blazer. Piolo, for one, has never displayed his eloquence in hosting until the recently concluded Miss Philippines Earth. He may be showing his fun side doing hosting activities in ABS-CBN’s ASAP, but a serious one like the Miss Philippines Earth pageant was a rediscovery of his gift for talking with substance and sense.

Alongside Fil-Am talents Derek Ramsey and Sam Milby, who are also good hosts, Piolo impressed us with his sincere way of talking to candidates in their most nerve-wracking moments. He made them feel very comfortable. Watching him hosting Miss Philippines Earth was like seeing a world-class event. His spiels were well-delivered, with no signs of nervousness or acting. We remember those days when the likes of Eddie Mercado and Ariel Ureta hosted the most prestigious beauty searches in the country. The elan, elegance and substance simply put the events into a grand occasion of displaying beauty and wit with real purpose. Here’s really hoping to see Piolo Pascual in more related events if only to prove to the world that it takes someone like him to host a prestigious beauty pageant.

Born on January 12, 1977, Piolo Jose Pascual is the son of a Filipina mother and a German-Spanish father. He made his debut in showbiz in 1997 by way of "Esperanza," a star-studded TV series where he played the role of Brian. Aside from getting the chance to act with veteran and young thespians like Dante Rivero, Charo Santos-Concio, Bembol Roco, Romnick Sarmenta, Jericho Rosales, and the like, the show had actress Judy Ann Santos playing the title role, paving the way for the creation of one of RP's most popular loveteams. "Esperanza" became a movie two years later. Piolo and Judy Ann then starred together in huge films that established them as a bankable loveteam: "Kahit Isang Saglit" in 2000, "Bakit 'Di Totohanin" in 2001 and "Till There Was You" in 2003 which reportedly grossed P10 million on opening day alone. But Piolo also crafted an incredibly successful solo career as an actor and a singer. He has won several acting awards and his albums have reached the platinum mark. Piolo has become one of the most respected and bankable entertainers of his generation.
