Atlantika: For Love or Duty?

With Cielo's help, Aquano remembered his mission in the world of the humans: to kill princess Amaya. But the princess he has to murder is the woman he fell in love with. Aquano swore to Cielo that he will never harm her; will he ultimately choose love at the expense of Atlantika?

"I guess we're coming in to the second arc, or act two of the entire story arc of Atlantika. So they have to expect major changes," imparts Mark Reyes, who co-directs the telefanstasya together with Zoren Legaspi and Dingdong Dantes (who plays Aquano).

"At this point they found out that Aquano's alive," he continues. "Nagka-competition na si Piranus and Aquano, and he finds out that Esure is actually Aquano. But they couldn't get to the meat of their fight because Cielo (Iza Calzado) is already freaking out, then something happened and they got separated."

Paolo Contis, who plays Piranus, explains the root of his anger towards Aquano: "Una sa lahat, mayabang ako kasi maharlika ako. Akala ko, Aquano is poor."

If you will remember, Aquano grew up in Proto-Atlantika as a common worker named Esure, where he was watched over by Camaro (Rudy Fernandez), a former Senturyon.

"Pero eventually malalaman ko na siya si Aquano. Mas-nagalit ako. Kasi alam ko na ayaw niya si Barracud (Ariel Rivera) since noong bata pa siya. Tapos noong naging Senturyon kaming dalawa, ako 'yung naging leader ng mga Senturyon kasi natalo ko siya. So 'yun, doon lahat nagsimula lahat 'yun. And then eventually, ayun, naguunahan kami to get the princesses. Lalong lumala ngayon, kasi 'yung mga princess, ayaw sumama sa akin,kasi alam nila na ako si Piranus, so isa-isa ko silang by force hinuhuli!"

"Ganoon naman, e, (kahit sa) sa totoong buhay, (ayaw nila sumama sa akin)!" Paolo jokes with a big smile.

"At this point, we are already figuring out who the princesses are; who's who," explains Direk Mark. â€œThat will lead to them going back to Atlantika and then when they go back to Atlantika, there's a major twist in the story because there's a new character, or new characters are gonna come out, which will play a pivotal role until act three of the entire story of Atlantika. So (with) these changes, they'll be surprised!"

Iza Calzado adds, "Mas mare-reveal na powers namin!" For instance, Isabel Oli, who plays Alona, has recently discovered something: "Kapag bilog na ang buwan, nagkakaliskis ako; hindi ko rin alam kung bakit ganoon ako."

"And then you've been seeing a lot of Aquano-Cielo moments. Mayroon pa 'yan. Madami pa 'yan!" says Iza excitedly.

Alona is also slowly getting closer to Piranus, and they, too, are starting to have their share of kilig moments. "Medyo type ko na siya, and siya naman, you know, bad siya, ginagamit naman niya (ako)." says Isabel.

Unlike her past role in I Luv NY where she played a kontrabida, Isabel says that she'd rather concentrate on being the protagonist for now. "Siguro ngayon muna, gusto ko lang huwag muna kontrabida. It's very hard pala. Sa I Luv NY, it's very hard. Kahit ganoon lang siya ka-light, hirap pa rin. Tapos nag-usap nga kami ni Chynna (Ortaleza, who plays Vera), I asked her, madali lang ba? Siyempre hindi ka pwede magplastikan na kunwari galit. Galit ka talaga! Siyempre hindi pa ako masyadong magaling sa ganitong role nga, na hindi kontrabida, siyempre, aalagaan ko muna ito. Ang hirap talaga ng acting. Pero in the end, enjoy ako," she says.

But one actor who's been enjoying his kontrabida role is Ariel Rivera, who plays Barracud, the evil ruler of Atlantika. "My character's turned really black, whereas before it was kind of grayish. I've managed to kill some of the Konseho (members) to get complete control of Atlantika. And I'm out to destroy and kill the protagonists!" he says.

Like Piranus, Barracud's anger is rooted in his love for power. "Just selfishness, I suppose. Greed. Want of complete power. I think that's basically it. It's just somebody who's greedy and wants all the power to himself."

Even his so-called "love" for Celebes (played by Ms. Jean Garcia) is something that isn't completely genuine, according to Ariel. "No, it's not real. That's my interpretation. Cos we're given a script weekly, and it changes day to day. So I don't think it's real, for me. Well, I just want Celebes really to establish my kingship over Atlantika. 'Yun 'yung pinaka purpose ko. I did love her, pero when it comes to choosing between Atlantika and her, it would not be a competition," Ariel explains.

"One thing you should look forward to is that Barracud (will go) back to the mundo ng tao, and that's a major sequence," shares direk Mark. According to Dingdong, there will be a "great war," so that's definitely something to watch out for!

One of Barracud's mortal enemies is Camaro, who is organizing a rebellion against his rule. "Maganda (ang role ko) kasi mayroon siyang prinsipyong pinaglalaban," shares Rudy Fernandez. "At the same time, mayroon siyang wisdom at nagsasalita siya. Like in one sequence, magkausap kami ni (Aquano). Malungkot siya, (tapos) sabi ko, 'Bakit ka malungkot? Dahil hindi mo nakuha 'yung gusto mo?' Tapos sabi ko, 'Hindi lahat ng oras, nakukuha natin gusto natin sa buhay.' So okay lang 'yan, tanggapin mo ang pagkatalo."

Aside from Cielo-Aquano and Alona-Piranus moments, as well as the upcoming "great war," Direk Mark says that there will also be new characters that will come out.

For instance, old friends from Encantadia will come back, including Gerard Pizarra and Michael Roy. "They're rebels. They'll join the rebellion with Camaro. Jethro is played by Michael Roy, Asujos is played by Gerard. It's a fish. Jethro is from flotsam and jetsam."

In addition to this, a new character named Celeste will play a pivotal role in the story. "(But) she has not been seen (yet)," explains Direk Mark. "She's a mysterious character, (and) we don't know who she is. She's still in a coma, but when she wakes up, you'll be surprised on who she really is, and what she plays. Also Dr. Naval's character, it's not what it seems with (him). So there are a lot of mysteries that are bound to show up!"
