    japeth and jobe also ineligible?

    2 Eagles ineligible?
    By Peter Atencio

TWO Ateneo junior standouts are in hot water.

Documents obtained by concerned members of the collegiate community showed that center Japeth Aguilar and Jobe Nkemakolam were not supposed to see action in the 67th and 68th seasons of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.

Their eligibility status were questioned following alleged inconsistencies that were discovered in their high school records at the Reedley International School.

Aguilar, however, will not see action for Ateneo this year. He flew to the United States last summer and reportedly tried to earn a place in a US National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 school.

He spent his junior and senior years in 2002 and the first semester of 2003 in Mapua. Then, on the second semester, Aguilar studied at Reedley. The following year (2004), he transferred to Ateneo, where he was asked to play for its juniors squad.

Nkemakolam, on the other hand, was a member of the San Sebastian juniors squad in 2001-2002, and made it to the national youth squad the following year.

The following season, Nkemakolam was placed on the Ateneo collegiate team’s roster, without having entered Grade 12 at Reedley.

The Department of Education had earlier dismissed the actions done by Reedley and Ateneo, and explained that a student must secure a clearance from the department before jumping from Grade 11 to college.

Ateneo juniors representative Ricky Palou, meantime, belittled the allegations, claiming that they were just part of a demolition job.

Palou added that they are more than willing to confront the complainants and answer the questions raised squarely.

    2 Ateneo cagers also ineligible?

De La Salle University will surely want to know more about this.

La Salle’s archrival in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, has also used two ineligible players on its men’s varsity basketball teams in the UAAP’s past two seasons—if "white" documents obtained by Sports Times on Friday are to be believed.

According to the documents, Ateneo’s Japeth Aguilar and Jobe Nkemakolam should not have played for the Blue Eagles in the 2003 and 2004 seasons owing to inconsistencies in their high school records that should have made them ineligible to enroll for college.

Aguilar, who Ateneo recruited in ’03, allegedly was enrolled in two schools that year—Mapua Institute of Technology, where he played for its junior varsity team, and Reedley International School in Pasig City.

Nkemakolam, who was on San Sebastian College’s junior squad and played for the national youth team, signed up with Ateneo without getting clearance from the Department of Education if he could enroll for college even as a Grade 11 student at Reedley, like Aguilar.

However, Ricky Palou, Ateneo’s junior representative to the UAAP board, belittled the damning documents, saying they are part of a demolition job "concocted by those who wanted to destroy the credibility of the school."

Ateneo was among the UAAP member schools that pressed the league to penalize La Salle for revealing it had used two ineligible players, Mark Benitez and Tim Gatchalian, during successful campaigns in the past two years. The UAAP board eventually suspended the Green Archers for a year, or for this season starting July 8.

    UAAP ELIGIBILITY SCANDAL

    Is Ateneo guilty, too?

    By Julius Manicad

    06/24/2006

After the eligibility scandal that rocked La Salle out of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) for one season, Ateneo de Manila was yesterday dragged into a similar case as documents purported the Blue Eagles have also hired two ineligible players to boost their basketball campaign for two seasons.

Documents obtained by the Tribune named prized center Japeth Aguilar and Jobe Nkemakolam as having questionable eligibility status due to several inconsistencies in their high school records at the Reedley International School.

Aguilar, however, will not suit up for the Eagles this year as he was sent to the United States to bid for a spot in a National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I.

Sources claimed Aguilar’s departure was timed to coincide with the release of his records from Reedley, where he actually spent his junior and senior years in 2002 and 2003 while he was still enrolled at the Mapua Institute of Technology.

Agents for the Ateneo squad recruited Aguilar in 2002 soon after the conclusion of the NCAA tournament before he was enrolled in Reedley.

Aguilar’s high school records, however, showed he was still with Mapua in the second semester of 2003 while was also enrolled with Reedley for the entire 2003, a case of double enrolment.

Reedley follows the normal school schedule from June to March and does not accept tranferees for Grade 12.

Nkemakolam, meanwhile, played for San Sebastian College in 2001 and was part of the RP Youth Team in 2002 prior to his enrolment for Grade 11 at Reedley in 2003.

While his UAAP records claim to have passed all requirements and is eligible for Grade 12 the following year, he was instantly drafyed in the Blue Eagles’ roster in the same year without completing his secondary education.

But Ateneo junior representative to the UAAP board Ricky Palou belittled the documents, stressing they were mean as a demolition job to destroy Ateneo’s credibility.

Palou also added since Ateneo admission director, Fr. Nemesio Nebres SJ, is very strict on the athletes’ documents, it is impossible for Aguilar and Nkemakolam to make the grade if they were cheats.

“They should file the complaint to the UAAP board and not to the media,” Palou said, challenging the source of the document. “They should bare their names and sign it so they will look credible to us and to the public as well.”

He added they willing to face the complaint to prove their innocence.

Well as previously mentioned, the leading corrupt coaching clan in the UAAP is putting up a useless fight.

They have been doing their rounds with various newspapers trying to instigate eligibility issues combo with a text brigade. Misery loves company nga naman.

File a complaint and Fr. Que is waiting for you idiots. All you can do is trial by publicity. Bring it on!

i came from the high school, japeth never set foot on high school grounds,

and it's a well known high school rule that the school no longer accepts students after 2nd year high, but according to the article, he's was supposed to transfer at his 4th year?

    know the background first idiot
