if my memory serves me right, yes it was. it was held six years ago (2000) where a round robin tournament among 10 chessers (including two Women GMs) from three countries (China, Vietnam and the Philippines) was held in Manila. He finished second behind GM Dao Thien Hai of Vietnam.

he needs to win this tournament to get his final GM norm. but it's still all depends to the FIDE ratings committee since i think he only faced one GM in this tournament since according to the rules, a player must face at least 4 GMs to validate his norm results.

back to the tournament, IM jayson Gonzales took over the top spot of this tournament heading into the 9th and final round, after defeating IM Georgios Souleidis of Greece in the 8th round. he now leads the tournament with 6.5 points, half-point ahead of 5 other players. he will face IM Martin Senff of Germany in the final round.

    good luck, jayson.

i think that was a back to back tournament, one was held in Subic and another 1 in Manila...I think the manila tournament was sponsored by Equitable Bank....

that's correct... the manila tournament was called Equitable Credit Card International Chess Classic or something quite close to that name. Subic was supposed to host an international chess tournament in 2003. but somehow it was cancelled.
