I think the owner of National Bookstore is the grandmother of the person who's handling Powerbooks. I read it in an article in a major daily.

powerbooks..ang mahal naman kasi ng books sa fully booked.. pero tama na mas maraming selection sa fully booked but still, you won't miss what you don't know :-P hehe, imbento

Fully Booked definitely. They have a much wider selection of books, more stocks and many cheaper titles. I think gone are the days when they were more expensive. It was the time when they were still called Page One. Perhaps the moment they changed to Fully Booked, their prices are already similar to or even cheaper than PB.

Also, their arrangement (and space) makes it easier and more conducive to looking around. Unlike in PowerBooks where it feels so cramped. I could spend 2 hours in Fully Booked every time and not get tired of walking around. The overall atmosphere is also better. They're more well lit.

I was interviewed by the GM of powerbooks when I was applying for the buyer position and I was asked the same question. I am a literature major, but that doesn't make me more qualified to judge which bookstore is better (because I am more qualified) nor does it make me look like a total bookworm. In my college years, when I needed to get a copy rare find books, like Castiglione's "The Courtier" or Calvino's "If On A Winter's Night a Traveler", I consult with Fully-Booked first. Their selection of rare find books is encompassing. But when I need a book for leisurely purposes, I'd go to powerbooks because its cheaper. Long story short, I'd only consult with Fully-Booked if I needed--not when I want to. This country boasts of selling international titles at very affordable prices. If you need rare ones, and one of friends has it, I'd suggest you get a copy the UP way--pa-photocopy ka!

fully booked has a computer database which already has a listing of the current bestsellers, even if they are not out in the market yet. i was looking for a specific book which i asked for at national, powerbooks, goodwill and fully b. sa fully booked lang siya nakita sa computer, lahat ng iba hindi nga nila alam kung ano yun. kaya lang sa november pa daw magkakaroon ang fully booked...

    for bargains, powerbooks.

    for specific titles, fully booked.

    fully booked din ako...

doon ko nabili yung storm of swords by george r r martin ko sa powerplant branch... nauna silang magkaroon by 5 months, pinareserve ko kasi sa powerbooks...

    sorry nabili ko na eh...

I go for Fullybooked. Based from experience, they have a wider range of available books. What i really like, though, is how fullybooks arrange their shelves. It's like the more interesting books kinda catch my attention more at fullybooked. Strange no?

Pero, I'd have to agree powerbooks offer more bargains. Sa pricing naman ng regular items, hindi pareparehas, a book may be priced higher at fullybooked, but another book may be lower-priced. I guess you'd have to compare prices first before making a purchase.

    A.) Book Selections
    Fully Booked

    B.) Services
    Powerbooks

    c.) Brand Recognition
So far Powerbooks for most people.

    D.) Loyalty
i used to be very loyal to Powerbooks. Sobrang faulty.

overall, i like Fully Booked better. Good book selection. Great ambience as well. That's all that matters.

I buy business and sci-fi/fantasy books. And some photography books.

In terms of selection ng business books, pareho lang. I was at their Live store at Greenbelt and malaki ang selection.

But I have a lot of problems with the Fully Booked staff at Rockwell, twice now I've had to snap at someone at the counter, nilagay ko na nga yung bibilhin ko sa counter eh, tuloy pa rin ang kwentuhan nila.

    A.) Book Selections
fully booked has a wider catalogue of fiction
powerbooks has a better and wider selection of specialty books -- photography, nonfic etc.

    B.) Services
powerbooks' staff will readily accommodate your queries pero fullybooked's staff will actually approach you to help you out. so fullybooked for me.

    c.) Brand Recognition
    pareho

    D.) Loyalty
loyal to both. kung katingkati na ko bilhin yung book, dedma, buy ko na sa fullybooked. pero pag makakaantay pa dahil baka magkaron ang powerbooks ng gusto ko sa mas murang halaga, powerbooks ako. in my browsing experience, (which i do every weekend) i'd say that while fullybooked has a wider selection, their books are more expensive.

Powerbooks have a more courteous staff while when it comes to graphic design books, i head to Fully Booked since its cheaper of 100 to 200 bucks.
