WOW. Kabayan! I've been here in Mumbai (well, Navi Mumbai) for the past two months and will be here for 8 more (at least). Volunteering for a year in a rights-based NGO here via VSO Bahaginan and VSO India. Are you in Couchsurfing? Madaming mga happening dun. Tapos may mga tips pa on where to go.

I'm headed to Goa on 14-17 with another volunteer (Malaysian) based in Delhi. Tara!

Share ko lang din latest posts sa India photo and video blog, although ambagal ko mag-update:

I suggest you go to the Ajanta and Ellora caves. It's 7 hours from Mumbai. Both places are spectacular! If you have time, go to Hampi as well. I think may nag-post recently about these places so back-read ka nalang ng konti for tips.

    Visa On Arrival

    Hi All,

Anyone who has done visa on arrival lately? What were the requirements apart from onward return tickets and accomodations? Do you need to bring passport sized pictures?

Do they give you the normal visa sticker or they will just stamp your passport?

    Thanks as always!

India - Ladakh & the Golden Triangle

Anyone fancy a trip to LADAKH up northern INDIA (recall 3 Idiots?), then around the GOLDEN TRIANGLE - DELHI, AGRA & JAIPUR?

The trip is definitely scheduled from October 18 - 31.

We fly via BANGKOK, so a couple of days will be spent in THAILAND too!

Actually, I'll be flying in to Delhi on October 18th too And Delhi, Agra, Jaipur are definitely on the itinerary.

However, I have a bit of a problem and I'm hoping the experts on this thread can help. When they give you 30-days for the Visa on Arrival, do they mean 30 days exactly?

My flight to Delhi arrives on October 19th. I'll be flying out from Chennai on November 18th. Due to oversight on my part, I forgot to consider that since October has 31 days, if I count the actual number of days I'll be in India, I'll end up overstaying by 1 day

    So my questions are:
[1] When they give you the 30 day Visa on Arrival, do they include "Valid Until / Permitted to remain until" info on the visa? Or do they include this info with the entry stamp? I've noticed that this is the case for some countries, so at least I'll be able to check on entry if I'm running the risk of overstaying

If anyone can post their visa + entry/exit stamp (with personal details blurred out), it'll be much appreciated

[2] Do they give exactly 30 days? Or do they give 1 month?
I noticed in some of my previous visas/entry/exit stamps for other countries, it's usually 1 month. For example, in my SK visa:
Entry: May 8th (the month of May also has 31 days)
    Exit: June 7th

Any inputs/help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Have you booked packaged tours for the Golden Triangle, or just a DIY spree?

    1. since I planned only for 2 days based on my roundtrip tickets and my diy itinerary, IO granted me 5 days

    2. 30 days is the maximum IO can give based on your roundtrip tickets and application form.
please check the visa image above.

Thanks for the input and the photo of the visa stamp! I did check out your blog before posting my questions here. I guess our situations are slightly different since I'm planning a longer trip and my concern is really the risk of overstaying in case they literally count the number of days of stay.

A quick google image search did turn up some promising results wherein they grant 1 month (31 days technically) instead of 30 days. I guess I'll just chance it and report the results back here. Worst case, I'll just have to rebook my return ticket I guess.

No package tours, plan is to DIY everything. The itinerary we're planning is for a month of travel starting from Delhi, then going to Agra, Jaipur, Pushkar, Goa and Chennai. Might be there in time for Diwali though I haven't done my research on that yet, just got a suggestion from someone. I'm thinking of spending around 5 days for each destination, more to experience local culture (shock) :P Though it will still depend on train availability. Still trying to figure out how to survive the 30 hour train ride from Jaipur to Goa, and another 23 hours to Chennai XD

Maybe we can meet up during the Delhi-Agra-Jaipur leg of your trip?

I hope you do get 31 days, to avoid the hassle of rebooking.

About meeting up by Delhi-Agra-Jaipur, we sure can. BUT we will be up north in Ladakh from the 18th til the 25th. We then do a day tour each for Jaipur & Agra. I wonder where you would be then.

Thanks. I do hope it all turns out well, visa-wise. I will have to ask my travel buddy what our final itinerary will be. We're keeping it pretty flexible actually. Around the 25th or so, we might be in Agra, I think.

Btw, any recommendations on hostels in Delhi? I've checked a few on hostelsworld and hostelbookers but any personal recommendations would be appreciated. We'll be coming from the airport early morning (1AM), so we're looking for a hostel that's easy and safe to get to in the early v. late evening/ early morning. Won't mind changing hostels a day or two after once we get our bearings :P

Also, pretty weird question, but I'm throwing it in with the rest just in case ... anyone have any idea how laundry services work in India? I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's about the same as Manila (in terms of rates, speed and quality).

    Thanks!

I read somewhere that bigger hotels have in-house laundry services while the others will most likely end up in a dhobi so it's not a good idea to send fancy clothes since they beat it up
