Exclamation ~*Nikki Gil-->"Pop Angel" *~=-)Home of the Certified Nixters!

    Welcome Nixters!

    Name : Monica Pauline Gil
    Nickname : Nikki
    Birthday : August 23, 1987
    School : Ateneo De Manila
Getting into modeling : I used to do VTRs when I was younger. No one was getting me. I felt rejected so I stopped. My skin broke out too! When it cleaned up, I started again. Then I go the Coke and Sunsilk TVCs right away.
How was your Coke shoot : It was really fun! It didn't feel like work at all. One day rehearsal, the one day for the shoot [in Ongpin]. We recorded the song a day before the rehearsal. The atmosphere wasn't stressful at all."
So it was you who was really singing the commercial : "Yes! I love singing! But my only exposure is in church, We're a family of singers too."
Fave Artists : Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Tamia. I like Disney songs. My fave Disney song is 'Part of Your World'. I don't like rock. I also like Southborder.
Hobbies : I play the piano. I play volleyball. I'm into studying. I graduated valedictorian from high school, so its part of me na. I bake too! My specialty is oatmeal cookies.

Any Collections : Buttons and Candy Wrappers like the colorful Wonka wrappers. The designs are very cute. I keep it in a jar.
Beauty Secret: Well for me,it doesn't really matter how much make-up you put on or whatever you do, if you're not beautiful inside, it will really show. I think it's important to beautify your inner person before anything else. But drink lots of water and don't forget to wash your face always before going to bed.
Describe your style : Girly, conservative but not too balot. I'm not really the jeans-and-sneakers type, but still laid back.
You shop at ? Bayo and Kamiseta. But i'd rather shop in tiangges, like Greenhills. Usually I buy something that's cheap lang.
You like guys who are : In Love With God. Major turn-on. Funny, sweet and intelligent. Someone who can provide for me when we get married. I like guys who are like my dad. My dad is wonderful. I also like cute, tanned, Mexican-type of guys. Not chinito and mestizo.
Would rather avoid guys who are : Guys who are presko, and those who are super duwag. Those who won't take a risk.
You hate it when : My alarm goes off in the morning. I travel from the South to Ateneo every day so I have to wake up really early. It's the worst feeling.
You love it when : Classes are suspended. You get to stay home and eat and sleep.
In the future you are going to : I've always wanted to be a princess, but it's impossible, I guess (laughs). I have many plans for myself , but you know how life operates, you never know in what direction it will take you. I also want to start my own business but on what I'm not so sure yet, but I definitely want to be my own boss.
Guiding Principle : Follow you goals but be sensitive to what you want. Enjoy life!

    Wholesome Nikki Gil

    By Danny T. Vibas

Music is in the genes of Coke girl Nikki Gil who was recently signed up by ABS-CBN 2 into a one-year show-biz career management contract. “My dad, who sings and play keyboard, is the vice president for marketing of Security Bank. My mom, who used to sing in church and was once a member of the band that eventually became known as Something Special, is a home-based entrepreneur. My dad is not related at all to Eddie Gil,” says the girl who got her show-biz break from appearing in that commercial in which she goes around while handing out 8-ounce Coke bottles.

Her dad is also related neither to actress Rosemarie Gil nor to Viva Entertainment Group of Companies’ vice president for communications, Baby Gil. “The only famous Gil my dad is related to is the scriptwriter Gina Marissa Tagasa-Gil. It is to her engineer husband that my dad is related to—they are cousins—and not to Gina Marissa herself,” she says. The scriptwriter is actually daughter of TV character actress Mely Tagasa.

    Changes

Monica Pauline Gil in real life, Nikki is 19 years old and a student of Ateneo de Manila University. Up till this last second semester, she was in the honor class of BS Economics department in school.

“Now that I have joined show biz and will be part of the daily morning show M.R.S. [Most Requested Show] on ABS-CBN 2, I don’t think I will be able to keep up with the demands of being in that honors class. So, I am seriously planning to shift to television. Other aspects of show-biz work might make it easier for me to cope with Communication Arts when I go back to school after this summer. My actual exposure is with the requirements of Communication Arts as a major. Besides, I’ve always fancied myself becoming a journalist and broadcaster someday even after I had decided to major in journalism in school,” she says.

“You know, I once did a mock commercial using our home camera and my cousins as models. I also wrote the script and did their makeup. That’s how much in love I am with the various aspects of communication!” she says.

That well-loved Coke commercial is not her first, though she admits it’s the first with her in the lead. She got most of her singing experience as a church choir member. And though she studies in a Catholic school, she proudly says her family belongs to the Christian denomination.

“You know the better singer is my sister, my only sibling, who is only 14 years old and is practically now a veteran in singing commercial jingles. You can say she became a professional singer much ahead of me. In fact, before I joined show biz, she was much busier with her jingle-recording assignments than I was, since I was just singing in church and going to school as well as participating in some ministries of our church,” she reveals.

    Staying wholesome

Aside from cohosting M.R.S. and ASAP, also on ABS-CBN 2 on Sundays, and doing video-jock work on MYX on Studio 23, Nikki has signed up with Star Records, also owned by the Lopezes. The album she is working on is expected to come out in June, keeping her busy these days meeting with the recording company’s executives and staff to plan out the project.

“I hope they will make me sing songs as meaningful as that Coke jingle I sang in that commercial. I am willing to sing any kind of song, for as long as it can be classified or described as wholesome and in a style that can also be unquestionably called wholesome. My dad will be the first to pull me out of show biz the moment I go beyond what can unquestionably be called decent and wholesome,” she says.

Her parents also allowed her to pursue a show-biz career only if she stayed in school, even with a much-reduced number of subjects. “While my parents don’t want me and my sister to pass up the breaks and opportunities we’re being given this early in our lives, they don’t want us to give up the privilege of getting a good education.”

She is quite sure that she will never be allowed to join the movies—even an ABS-CBN 2 soap—if it would mean baring flesh or doing a kissing scene. “As of now, I really feel I will be more of a singer and a TV host than as an actress,” she says.

Nikki had a stint as a guest segment host on GMA 7’s Extra Challenge after she joined the reality show as a contestant. People expected her to join GMA 7 instead of ABS-CBN 2.

“My parents and I decided that I should join ABS-CBN 2 instead of GMA 7, even if you can say GMA 7 was the first to give me a break, largely because ABS-CBN 2 presented to us a career plan that has more to do with developing me as a singer and TV host compared with what GMA 7 offered,” she says.

With that, you can say that Nikki is endorsing not just Coke these days but also wholesomeness and parental obedience

    Lightbulb Lyrics!

    Sakayan ng Jeep

    Laging, laging naghihintay
    Laging, laging nagbabantay
May kung anong kilig na nadarama
    So tuwing nakikitang Nagaabang

    Paggising ko, bintanang tinutungo
Tinitignan kung nandoon na ang mahal ko
    Umaasang maabot ng tanaw
    Habang naghihintay ng sakay
    Niya

    Chorus:
    Do’n sa sakayan ng jeep
    Madalas sinisilip
    Do’n sa sakayan ng jeep
    Minsan ay naiinip
    Do’n sa sakayan ng jeep
    Para bang panaginip
    Tuwing nakikita ko siya
    Sa sakayan ng jeep

    Minsan nakitang naghihintay
    Kunwari ako ang inaantay
    Ngunit nakitang may kasabay
    Ang puso ko’y nagkagutay-gutay

    (RepeatChorus)

    Minsan kami ay nagkasabay
    Nagkatabi ngunit walang saysay
Hindi no siya ang aking hinihintay
Lagi na ‘ko ngayong may ibang kasabay

    (Repeat Chorus 2x)

If I Keep My Heart Out of Sight

If I keep on talking now
    I'll only start repeating myself
And all I can say is
    I love you
    I love you
    I love you
    I love you

If I slip and tip my hand
I'm certain to scare you away
    Then what would I say
    I'd be hurting I'm certain
I'd be uncool to let you know that you're the one
The fool who jumped the gun

'Cause I've been advised by other guys
    You've left behind
    Your goodbyes are somewhat unrefined
But if I play my role just right
Tonight could be my lucky night
    And you could be mine

If I present it to you
With a flower in the moonlight
    Shiny and new
Well, you couldn't say no tonight
If I keep my heart out of sight

If I play my role just right
Then Tonight could be my lucky night
    And you could be mine

If I present it to you
With a flower in the moonlight
    Oh, shiny and new
Well, you couldn't say no tonight
If I keep my heart out of sight

    Glowing Inside

    Happy, to let you know
    You made me glow,
    I feel so good,its true
So glad that i have you
    You love me so
    Now i want as bright

    Chorus:
    I'll always thank you
    For the glow
I thank you for the joy
Thank you for the love you give to me
    I'd glowing, glowing inside
    With your love
    Shining through
Thank you for everything you do
    I'm glowing inside
    Because of you.............

    Remember, my glowing years
    They're build with joy
    Because your there for me
    You cast my fears away
    You like those tears
    You give me strength
    Each day

    (repeat chorus)

Who knows for what tomorrow brings
My glowing wings can make me fly
    I reach
And i will touch the sky because of you
    I'll sore up high.....
    So i must........

This Nice Girl Wants to Finish First

IT’S irresistible, this sweet, sweet concoction: the frothy idea of free soda and a pretty face. It is the story of Nikki Gil, a simple lass who gained fame in a commercial that had her walking down a street in jeans and a T-shirt, armed only with miraculously multiplying Coca-Cola bottles.

Nikki is the latest avatar in a Filipino pop culture tradition: the fairy tale of the face finding fame in a TV commercial. But she’s become more than that. She’s turned out to be something of an agreeable anachronism: a good girl in a mad, mad, mad showbiz world. “I definitely don’t want to compromise my principles. I want to have a career out of being myself and if people don’t want to accept that, then okay,” she says with delicate determination.

Throughout all this, it is easy to forget that, because of her amazingly well-proportioned features, Nikki is still a teenager who’s only turned 18, confesses to having a messy room and has trouble getting anywhere on time. “No matter how many times I say to myself not to mind what people say, it does matter to me,” she says. “I like teasing people a lot but when it’s my turn, I’m pikon.” Just when you think that Nikki is too good to be true, you find out other amazing things about her: she was the valedictorian of her high school batch in Shekinah Christian Training Center in Parañaque, and she used to bake awesome oatmeal cookies.

Then there’s that sublime stillness, a measured mode of behavior that makes Nikki seem older and more mature than she actually is. Being a model for Coca-Cola comes with its requisite demands. “There’s a morality clause in my contract,” she explains. “But it works to our advantage. We’re not putting up a front. That’s how I really am. Wholesome.”

    Career risk

The challenge for Nikki is to maintain her image without stumbling into bland and saccharine territory. When the most daring thing about you is your prodigious collection of sleeveless tops, that’s a formidable task. Yet in this gossip-hungry and neophyte-devouring showbiz ecosystem, staying wholesome, and the very avoidance of risks, is a rather severe career risk by itself. It makes her decision to stay the straight and narrow path more gutsy.

Remember too that this is a girl of whom the worst rumor circulated was that she’s the daughter of, uh, bizarre presidential aspirant-turned-novelty act Eddie Gil. But no relation whatsoever. Nikki is quite conscious of how people view her. “I used to read stuff about me and I would take it badly. I’d cry. But I learned that there’s no pleasing everybody, and now I realize how blessed I am that I don’t get that kind of intrigue.”

In the interim, this AB English Literature sophomore has accepted the fact that wading in the potentially tumultuous waters of show biz means extra academic footwork so she can stay on track at the Ateneo de Manila University. “It’s pretty hard learning how to study in the car and learning how to squeeze in reading time between takes. It’s been quite difficult.” Nikki had entered school thinking of becoming a lawyer. While she no longer wants that, she is determined to complete her Ateneo degree. “If we could strike a happy balance between the two, that would be most ideal.”

She is certainly keeping very, very busy. She had continued her assault on pop consciousness with her self-titled album under EMI Philippines and a sweety-sweety radio single, “Sakayan ng Jeep,” a remake of a Bodjie Dasig song originally sang by Lani Misalucha. They had begun work on the album this summer with a three-year, two-album deal. “I enjoy singing but I’ve never really pictured myself doing it as a living,” she says.

Very shortly after her Coke ad began airing, Nikki literally became a TV regular by appearing in a lineup of ABS-CBN shows that unapologetically took full advantage of the girl’s shampoo commercial-quality locks. The life of the peripatetic performer isn’t unknown to Nikki, as she’s doing a lot of shows right now. She’s currently pushing the second single from her album, “If I Keep My Heart Out of Sight.”

Yet if one were to believe Nikki, she wasn’t the one destined for fame, but her younger sister Dani. “She started earlier and is really a professional,” she says of her sister, who’s a veteran voice talent. Monica Pauline Santos Gil, in fact, just turned 18 last August 22. Mom Julie runs a company that churns out corporate giveaways when she’s not managing Nikki’s time. Dad Dino is a businessman.

Though it was the Coke ad that shifted her squarely into public property, it wasn’t Nikki’s first exposure. She’s been modeling since she was 10, and between that time and last year’s Coke frenzy, Nikki has appeared in spots for RCBC, Nestle, Sunsilk and Modess, among others. “You know how it is in advertising,” she recalls, explaining that an aunt working in a major advertising agency got her for those earlier appearances. “One thing’s for sure, I did want to be a model, but not as a professional,” Nikki says. “Just as something on the side.”

    Difficult phase

Julie says that another of her daughter’s ads proved to be pivotal for the young talent. She went through an acne phase, something that every teenager goes through. “We went to dermatologists and everything,” the mother recalls. “When the acne disappeared, Nikki wanted to do an ad just to validate herself. Just one, and that was the Sunsilk ad,” says Julie.

Right after that, Nikki’s confidence would be boosted further when a talent caster, who attended the same church as the Gils, asked if she wanted to audition for the Coke ad. “I had nothing to lose anyway, so we tried it out.” She never expected the runaway recognition that came with the ad, but not everyone was caught by surprise. Right before the shoot, Julie told Nikki, “After this, your life will never be the same again.”

It actually took a while for everything to sink in and events only began to get more frenzied. When the offers started coming in, it was time for a decision. “My dad was really hesitant and apprehensive about me getting into the business, which is natural. The deal was that I would stay in school and my mom would have a say in my schedule,” Nikki says. “ASAP ’05” quickly recruited her as a host, and soon followed her regular roles on Myx and “Breakfast.”

Julie points out that Nikki had always been studious and extraordinarily focused for a teen. Ninety-nine percent of Julie’s time is spent managing her daughter’s schedule, for which her previous experience in advertising is proving useful. Both are enjoying the whole thing, though they do occasionally argue because it’s hard to draw a line between being manager/client and mother/daughter.

Aside from the demands on her time as a student, the newfound fame has had other effects. Nikki hardly gets to see her family anymore, especially considering how close the Gils are. “The house is like an airport,” she says. “I’m very active in Church (Alabang New Life). If I’m not working or in school, that’s usually where I am, and that’s where my circle of friends is.” If she were out with her friends, then it’s off to the mall for shopping and movies. Nikki reads a lot, Nicholas Sparks and the classics. She also adores her yellow lab named Starbucks.

Nikki remains quite shy about her love life, though she admits she is seeing Gabriel Valenciano, Gary V’s second son. Gabby is actually Nikki’s first boyfriend. How cute.

As Nikki’s career continues to unfold, there have been unusual decisions, at least by typical showbiz standards, such as the refusal to do movies for now. “Not at the moment. We’re open to it, but I don’t want to be doing too many things at the same time and spread myself too thin,” says Nikki, who is also currently endorsing the clothing brand Penshoppe. To make sure that Nikki’s career is properly developed, Julie says they’re looking into getting help on the managing side.

    Short shelf life

This is all crucial when one considers how short the shelf life is of newly-minted personalities in Philippine fandom. The tradition of newbies breaking through after a successful TV ad is a hallowed one, from Gabby Concepcion’s Close-Up spot to Carmina Villaroel’s Jollibee appearance. Coca-Cola itself has launched many a face, including 1980s good girl Lilet of “I am the future of the world” fame (she recently made a comeback, singing under the name Marielle).

The key lies in how extended and diversified Nikki can make her career and how she can avoid being defined exclusively by her breakthrough ad, especially since she has ruled out any daring and dizzying career twists. It will be a test of her talent and her resolve, as well as a coin toss in the hands of a fickle audience.

Being the self-aware creature that she is, Nikki herself has some concerns about her reputation, worried that good behavior might be perceived as blah. “I reached a point where I was like, ‘Ma, we have to stop building on that completely wholesome thing because people might get sick of me. But that’s really me. If they get sawa (bored) with me, then that’s the end of me.”’ There is a life beyond the song numbers and the autograph signings. “I want to get into the field of advertising and get involved in mass media but I can’t tell really what I’ll be doing three or four years from now if this doesn’t work out.”

Julie, however, says that Nikki has a place in the industry she’s chosen: “It’s time the industry gets someone like her. When she turned 18, we gave her her freedom. And now she has this freedom, she also has this responsibility.”

There is, however, a genuine upside to being recognized—particularly by little children. “All of the sudden, I’m an ambassador of hope because of my role in the commercial. Kids started looking up to me and following what I do,” Nikki says. “All of a sudden, my opinion on things matters.”

In that lies the intrinsic difficulty and delight in what Nikki does next, because she represents both the pretty and the profound. “I never imagined this in my wildest dreams. I’m enjoying it but there are times when I have to think this is work, something serious, and I’m not just playing here.” Everybody should love Nikki Gil because of what she represents: the smart showbiz spirit who wants to sing and yet keep her soul—and yours—safe, away from the laos and the lost, living proof that we can and should expect more from the famous and the felicitous. Now that is irresistible.

    Gud Morning Nixters!
Anak ni Gary V. nagmana kay Martin!

ABA, anak nga ni Gary Valenciano si Gabriel pero para siyang si Martin Nievera kapag nagsasalita tungkol sa kanyang lovelife. Masyadong nakaka-in love, kumbaga.

Teka, teka. Gaano ba niya talaga kamahal si Nikki?

"Well, to tell you honestly, I can write a whole book just to say how much I love Nikki and one day is not enough para masabi ko lahat ang nasa loob ko para sa kanya," umpisa sa amin ni Gab.

Wow, huh!At may dagdag pa ang damuho.

"I love Nikki that no matter how many fights and tampuhans ang nangyari sa amin, eh, I will still go to her and plead para maging kami pa rin," sabi pa ni Gab.

Nikki Gil admitted she had been thoughtfully considering the sincerity of Gabriel Valenciano who confessed recently on national TV his feelings for the upcoming singer–host.

" Oo naman, kung chances rin lang ang pag–uusapan, meron naman . It's just that it's not right naman talaga if I will ask him ‘Nanliligaw ka ba?' But I am enjoying the friendship we are sharing right now because we go to the same church," Nikki told Manila Bulletin in a press conference held for the nearing release of her self–titled debut album under EMI Records.

The 18–year old stunner from the Coca–Cola TV ad fame also revealed the lengths Gary Valenciano's son had so far gone through just to make her feel special.

"When I celebrated my birthday last Aug. 23, he made this video of me. He conspired with my sister who in turn gave him all access to photos from my childhood to present. He used the photos for the video and I thought it was very sweet of him to do that. He also visits me sa house frequently and gives me flowers," she said when asked how Gabriel expresses his intentions.

She added, "We're still on that getting to know each other stage. He's also a very special person because it's rare for a guy of his stature to be that down–to–earth but he is; among other things, he is also God–fearing and very respectful."

However, Nikki did not want to ‘label' anything as of yet, she said. "It's not that I believe in long courtship and neither do I want fast–food type of ligawan , what I believe in is building a strong foundation in a relationship because I've never had a boyfriend ever so if ever I get into a relationship I want it with very strong foundations. For you do you believe that Nikki And Gab is Having A LoVe Affair?
