I am not so sure why it is so expensive to go to Cambodia. Maybe it has something to do with the taxes being paid to their government. Nagulat din ako when I found out that the airport tax for an outbound flight from any Cambodia airport is US$25. Ang mahal nito kumpara sa airport tax ng ibang countries sa Asia. Singapore's Changi and Bangkok's Don Muang charges around US$13 only, Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok charges around US$15 at sa ating beloved but delapidated NAIA ay around US$10 lang.

Oh by the way, I heard that land travel from Bangkok to Siem Reap will take around 8-14 hours depending on the season and road condition. If you wanna fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap, the one hour flight via Bangkok Airways will cost you at least 10,000 baht. Ouch.

Jetstar also flies to Siem Reap from Singapore. Approximately SG$189 and fare with taxes na (except for the Airport tax in Cambodia). Ang pangit nga lang kasi they only have one flight per day, unlike Bangkok Airways. Umaga pa, 6am ang flight out of Singapore, 7:50am naman ang flight out of Cambodia.

Looking for me? Hehehe, joke lang

The cheapest way to get to Siam Reap is through Pan-Asian budget carriers. Jetstar Asia flies from Singapore for around 80 USD, while Air Asia flies from KL for about the same price. If I had booked earlier, the KL-Siam Reap flight would've cost me 2600 PHP all-in; instead my plane fare cost me 3500.

Expenses in Siam Reap would include entrance ticket for Angkor *** (20 USD for a 1-day pass, 40 USD for 3 days, and 60 for a week). I found someone to split the tuktuk/travel guide cost, so that was around 11 USD.

You can check www.travellerspoint.com for accommodations to suit every budget. I chose (which was coincidentally Lonely Planet's Editor's Pick as well) Jasmine Lodge. The staff were very friendly, with airport pickup. My room was single occupancy with a TV, and fan, and spent 2 USD per night.

Spent another 12 USD for that van-bus ride to Bangkok. 10 hours to get to the Poipet-Aranyaprathet border, and about 4 hours to get to Khao San in Bangkok. Warning on the Siam Reap-Poipet van ride: the roads are bad, but not too bad.

Spent about a total of 60 USD for 3 days and 2 nights. Not bad, really. I'll post pictures in my blog once I have the time. Give me about a week

    I made a sample booking for Clark-Kuala Lumpur-Siem Reap-Kuala Lumpur-Clark via AirAsia:

MNL-KUL roundtrip for September 8-12 is only at 3,727 pesos.
KUL-REP roundtrip for September 9-11 is only at RM272.98 or 3,850 pesos.

That's only around 7,600 pesos total plus Philippine Travel Tax and airport facility fees in both Clark and Sieam Reap airports. Not bad!

^hmmmmm....ok na yun!.... but September is not a good time for me. I might check the November or December Schedules.....but baka masmahal ng konti

instead of getting the 800+ packages, why not use the excess for an extra day or two, diba?

    salamat!

monsterboy: Seen your blog. Nice to hear how you enjoyed your trip!

so... here are some things I was able to do today (consuming most of my time for work and use it for 'research'..mwehehehe):

    1. Browsed AirAsia's website to check for cheapest airfare....and it was a success...hehehe. Guys, I'm PLANNING to go backpacking to Kuala Lumpur & Siam Reap around some time between 2nd and 4th week of January next year (need to wait for 13th month pay...ahahaha!)

    2. Checked for good place to stay (travellerspoint and lonelyplanet). Plannin to check-in at Jasmine Lodge (REP) and Le Village (KUL)

    3. Drafted my itenerary. Initially, I was just planning to see Angkor ***. But I was able to arrange my sched to have a 3d/2n stay in KUL and 3d/2n stay in REP

    4. Computed budget. I think 300 USD (excluding pocket money) would be enough!...yey

...though im still giving myself 2 months to decide if i'll push through my plans (hope plane fare rates won't increase yet by then)

Actually, Im a bit excited on this trip... this would be my 1st time to go backpacking. My previous trips were taken care by a travel agent. At least this time, I'll do the booking of everything on my own.....

    ...haaaay...sana hindi ma-udlot!
