pde **** sgurong i mash na lang using a fork. i talked to my Mom pinapakain na nya si Xan ng veggies like squash and potatoes and some fruits like banana and papaya. Kung rice **** luto ka lugaw add it with formula milk or yung veggies uli. pakonti-konti lang pero takaw daw ni Xan kahit ano lafang!

i believe this is more organic than the kinda expensive earth's best, milupa etc.

Hi, tina11. here is a link where you can see what the home baby food maker looks like:

    www.pigeon.com.sg
    http://www.pigeon.com.sg/products/ac...ries_main.html

Aside from Pigeon and Ainon, there are other cheaper brands available in SM and Baby & Co (around P400up-P650up *** price range ng set depending on which brand).

The set includes: dish with grater (small plate), strainer, storage lid, grating plate, squeezer, pestle, mortar.

At 6 months we started feeding our baby
    - mashed potato w/ his formula milk or with chicken broth
    - mashed squash & papaya.
    - You can also try mashed carrots, although my son never liked it.
    - Rice with chicken or pork broth is also good. (Note: always use actual broth ha, not the broth cubes). You can also include very very small strands of chicken. For some taste, you may add some salt when you boil the meat.
    - Cooked quaker oats.
    - Mashed sayote (its a bit bland & watery, so add some rice. Add salt to the water when you cook the sayote)
    - Bananas w/ milk

Later on when he started chewing with his few teeth he can almost eat anything,.. we gave him chicken-vegetable macaroni soup, fresh mushroom soup, pasta, apples, egg pie, small slices of cake, soft bread etc.

Just dont give ur baby papaya, squash & carrots every day. Alternate it with rice, cereals or potatoes. My baby ate papaya & squash almost everyday his skin turned orange. As in literally orange. His soles, palms/fingers, nose & ears turned orange so the pedia advised to refrain from yellow-orange food for 3 weeks until his color returns to normal.

Question po: pag nag i eat na si bebi same pa din ba dami at frequency ng milk feedings nya?

  6. #86
Mommies, I read somewhere that you can put dilis (powdered) in baby's food like lugaw or monggo. Meron na ba nakapag-try nito? Paano po to gawin? Puwede ba yung dilis from the supermarket or kailangan fresh tapos lulutuin?

Hi Maika, bumili kasi ako for my baby habang di pa kasi ako makapag-decide what type of blender to get...yung iba meron pang juicer/grinder/chopper na kasama...

regarding the baby food maker/blender and cereals:

my baby just started on solids 3 weeks ago and i feed him homemade baby food pag fruits and veggies, but with cereals I feed him the commercial kind (earth's best organic whole grain cereals). I find the commercial cereals much more practical because it's instant and less waste. The homemade rice cereal takes 10 minutes or more to cook and since the smallest amount i can cook per batch is 4 tbsp., ang daming leftovers and it doesn't store well in the ref.

Yung fruits & veg naman, i puree them and put the puree in an ice cube tray and freeze. when it's time for baby to eat i just pop a cube or two into the microwave! the cubes last for 1-2 mos. in the freezer

as for the baby food maker vs. a blender i think a blender is better especially for babies starting out on solids. my sis-in-law lent me her moulinex baby food maker and i tried it with cooked apples to make applesauce. when i gave it to my baby he hated it!! the next day i tried gerber applesauce and he loved it! when i tasted the homemade applesauce and compared in to the gerber one, i realized it had much more texture than the gerber. so i put it back in the baby food maker but it was still the same even after several minutes of processing. nainis ako so i put it in the blender and - voila!- smooth as silk! hehe i gave it to baby and he liked it na!

I'm so glad then I bought the moulinex blender a few days ago instead of the moulinex baby food maker. I wasn't sure which to get but finally decided on the blender since it was cheaper and more practical.

I've been trying to give my baby mashed banana mixed with breastmilk or formula, on a spoon or on my pinky finger. She sucks on the spoon/finger for a while, then makes a sour face, like she just tasted Datu Puti and spits out 80% of the food. Tried store-bought rice cereal with the same results. Is this normal for the first attempts at feeding baby, or is she not ready yet?

hi tina, i think this is normal. for my little boy, the first thing he tried was homemade rice cereal w/ breastmilk and altho' he hated it (like annika, he made a really sour face), he was still kinda willing to eat it because i think there was breastmilk in it.

the second day, i gave rice cereal again but instead of with breastmilk it was just water and he made gagging sounds pa and spat nearly everything out.

the third day i gave earth's best whole grain cereal (altho' i know i should have waited at least 3 days first before i gave anything new) and surprisingly, he loved it! he ate about 2 or 3 tablespoons worth.

just keep trying if annika still doesn't like the rice or bananas, try to give something else. I heard many babies don't like rice cereal. try putting some breastmilk in it too, or try oats or try another kind of fruit, like apples. the first time my baby tried applesauce, he made such a horrible sour face but after a few bites, he was smiling na!

every time I introduce something new to his diet or if i give him something he hasn't eaten in a few days, he always makes a sour face but after he tastes it he likes it na.

if you keep trying (and be persistent!) and ayaw talaga niya, maybe you should try holding it off for a couple of weeks.

Yup, gave her some banana + formula yesterday and she ate a lot! Maybe because the bananas were riper, I read that babies like overripe bananas. Will try the rice cereal again in a couple of days. Thanks!

Is it true that it's not good to give orange and pineapple to my baby who has just started on solids a few days ago? I tried it and he likes it so much but my inlaws stopped me from giving him those.

  16. #95
According to Babycenter (link) and What to Expect the First Year you shouldn't give citrus fruits kaagad, but in my opinion those feeding guides are usually over-cautious. OK lang siguro if your family isn't prone to allergies and if there aren't any seeds or large globs of pulp that could choke baby?

Galing ni Kenzo, kumakain na ng buong fruits. (Or do you give him orange and pineapple juice?) I've been giving Annika cereal and mashed banana w/ milk for two weeks now but she still doesn't want to progress to "real" solid food like mashed potatoes

  17. #96
we gave him the fruits, in fact the very first solid food that he had was seedless ponkan (mandarin orange) and according to his yaya he liked it so much he can even consume half of the fruit. I also tried giving him ripe mango, pineapple, banana and sweet potato all in small amount lang and he liked it all. But when we we were at my inlaws place, I was told not to give him the pineapple and orange fruit even if the little boy liked it so much. ( But then on milk, he still hardly consumes 4oz in one feeding).

tina11, sabi nila bawal yung citrus fruits kasi malamig daw sa tyan. But if your baby likes it at wala namang bad effects sa kanya, then go ahead. I let Riel have some dalandan juice(extracted from the fruit) when he was about 7 months. Naasiman pero gusto nya naman. Kinagabihan, ayun iyak na ng iyak. So di ko na sya ulit binigyan nun until he was more than a yr old.

^ sorry wala akong maisip na recipe at the moment. kasi yung baby ko kahit ano kinakain. seedless grapes yung first food nya, 3months pa lang sya nun. and then we tried giving him sabaw and ponkan. okay pa rin sa kanya. tapos nag mash na ako ng mga fruits and veggies. minsan kung ano ano lang kino-combine ko. ang ginagawa ko before, gumagawa ako ng medyo maramihan tapo ilalagay sa gerber bottles then i-freeze. iinitin na lang sa microwave kapag kakainin na. may bad effects ba yun? sabi naman ng pedia okay lang eh.

cmars2 I'm sure that's fine! Anong sabaw ang binibigay mo kay baby? I'm thinking of giving my 7-month-old rice in chicken broth (fresh, not the ones made from cubes) and will mix in some steamed and grated carrots.

Mommies, what age did you start your chikitings on finger foods? Pwede na daw ng crackers and Cheerios ang 7-month-old na baby but I'm a bit hesitant to try, takot akong mag-choke siya.
