Thanks for the kind words and sorry about the delayed reply, didn't see this earlier. Anyway, I am based in Switz. So, good deals for me are picked from aggregate sites (kayak, ebookers, orbitz, etc), and subscription mails from airlines when they have deals. Being in Switz is evidenced by my europe heavy travel destinations. Relatively easier for me to visit european cities/countries over the weekend. Having the PH and a 2nd passport from one of the EU countries opened up the world for me, as I can just book flights in many countries without having to worry about Visa.
I also previously worked in France, and we have 7-8 weeks of vacation there, so i was able to travel a lot!

As I have said before, quality over quantity in visits is the better way though. I've stopped chasing amping my country visited count. I've been going back to my favorite places.
I still have places I'd hope to visit though such as New Zealand, Israel, and just recently Cuba So I've not lost my love of travel to new places.
    Cheers,
    Ryan
Hi Ryan, off topic but which airline did you take for Iceland? I'm thinking of Icelandair due to flight routes...otherwise I'll go with SAS as I've flown with them before.

    Hi naia,
I'm based in Geneva, and in summer there is a direct lowcost easyjet flight. So, got to visit Iceland cheaply. BTW, for a reason, lodging and general goods/food are expensive there, as most are flown in from the continent. So, good to prepare the budget.
I have a colleague going there on Feb. They are going via SAS.
If you will be on a long flight I would pick SAS if price diference is not big. If you are based in europe, better get the cheapest available. It is 3-4 hours flight so manageable. Having said that, I have talked to fellow tourists who flew via IcelandAir from US, and they were satisfied. I've never flown via IcelanAir though.

Thanks Ryan! I read that its much cheaper in Iceland during winter and yeah most of the airlines that I saw are seasonal. I might take SAS coming in and probably Icelandair for transatlantic flight.

    Cheers!

If you don't mind me askin, how were you able to do it?
I'm interested how did you manage to get to Yemen, Chad, and Somalia which I've read are some of the toughest to get to.

    Cheers!

    Ditto. For future reference.

I have a friend who has been to Afghanistan. But she works for the UN, and the trip was work related. I want to know how some people who don't have that specific perk can go places despite the restrictions. Again, for future reference.

    buti ka pa!

its been a while since i last visited this thread. thanks for taking the time to reply. it was really insightful.

i travel with my family every year so travel expenses are always multiplied by four. if i want to continue being able to take the family on holiday annually, it is imperative for me to look for cheap fares- a good bulk of our travel expenses. thanks to you, i now know that i should subscribe to email bulletins from the various airlines (which i've refrained from doing in the past since they clutter my inbox) and should trust sites like kayak, orbitz, etc. (which i take you book plane tickets from if even occasionally; me, i consult them, then i switch to the cheapest airline's own website).

last, nz was in my wife's bucket list for the longest time but wasn't in my own radar. i therefore resisted going there for the longest until this summer, and ended up enjoying it tremendously. loved the sights, the activities, the driving, and the kiwis -super friendly! did i mention the driving? hope that entices you to go soon yourself.

    cheers back to you!
