Went back to home to lovely Pinas last May and stayed for about a couple of months.
Here's some of the "places" that I think are worth visiting (they're not all in Manila): - Somewhere (I think) near Lucena,Quezon: A restaurant called Palaisdaan where some of the huts where you eat float in water. But more importantly, the food's great. - Pagudpud in Ilocos (Norte?): the Pagudpud beach was pretty cool. stayed at a place called Pannzian (the hosts were very friendly & gracious). when you visit ask them about the waterfalls and make sure you make plansday to spend at least half a day at the waterfall - the water's cold but great. - National Arts Center @ UP Los Banos Laguna: When you get to the top of the mountain where the National Arts Center is located, you'll see how breath-taking the view is. Think the gate closes at 5or6pm. - Burger Machine: at the corner of most street in Manila. Quite frankly, they're better than those foreign brands. Hope y'all have a pleasant experience when you visit these places. =) |

All those places sound great and exotic. I should really find the time to go island hopping here in the Philippines. There are so many beautiful places to visit, it's a shame that most of our countrymen seem to prefer going abroad instead.
And about Burger Machine, I would think that they would earn a lot more if they created a big fastfood outlet, maybe with a different brand, that offered their food items in a dine-in ambiance. No way Jollibee could compare with that. |

does jollibee really have great food?
seems to me that the quality has gone down (except for the palabok). one thing to their credit is their purchase of Greenwich where they have done a good job. there used to be a place called Cindy's (is the place to be) where you have a wider variety and most of the time better food than jollibee. however, i'm glad jollibee decided to open up a branch somewhere in california. wonder, when houston's gonna be next? |

Jollibee doesn't have great food, but for its price, its not too bad. I just prefer McDo and Burger King so much more. Even Tropical has better burgers than they do.
The Greenwich purchase was a basement bargain for Jollibee, I have to admit. When they started putting out the dual Jollibee and Greenwich stores, the people flocked to their shops even more. I still believe that a lot of Jollibee's success can be traced to their marketing and their operations. With their non-stop tv advertising, and their ability to target all corners of the market, especially makulit kids who urge their parents to eat there, the Bee has managed to keep its market leader position, keeping all their rivals playing catch-up. It just has to be Marketing. How else can you explain how they manage to sell the most chickens of all fast food outlets in the country? Oh and by the way, there is still a Cindy's inside Virra Mall. |

I love Tropical Hut! I'm sorry if some people don't find it that appealing, but the burgers there (especially the Classic) have huge patties for a fast food joint, lotsa cheese and lettuce. It's excellent. Plus, Milk Magazine rated their fries in the Top 10 Best Fries (at No. 10). I beg to disagree with the ranking. The Tropical Hut fries don't need salt because they're great on their own, plus, they don't get soggy after an hour, unlike Mickey D's or Jollibee. (This is not an ad. I just buy lunch there every day, heheh.)

Burger Machine can beat Burger King anytime but nobody can match Jollibee's Burger Steak.

I'm very particular about the sanitation of the places I eat in. The Tropical Hut branch in BF frazzles my appetite when I step in their store. But I have to admit, they do make a great burger! I find the meat quite juicy and very tasty. However, you need to take it out of it's paper-foil wrapper as soon as you get it unless you like your burger soggy...
