"Suddenly the Dark One grew tired of all this and smote Rand Al'Thor from existence. And Mat and Perrin too. The end."

I must admit, I stopped reading at Path of Daggers. I just didn't feel like the story was going anywhere anymore. And Min annoys me to no end. Maybe I'll pick up from Book 1 again after a year or so.
HEY! Good to see we have one more thing in common.

Yeah, Min is boring but so is Perrin, I think. Perrin, his wolves & village friends - just not stimulating enough.

Mat is the most interesting character ever since book 3.

    Post Why's this thread inactive?

Where's everyone? I thought you were all set to discuss Winter's Heart? I haven't read it yet but I like spoilers. I stopped at book 6 since I couldn't borrow 7 and 8 yet.

I'm not really a fan. I find it hard to keep all the characters and events straight. Also I find so much detail extraneous, unnecessary and repetitive (Nynaeve tossing her braid, Elayne smoothing her skirt, the guys always thinking the same thing about the girls and vice versa, the characteristics of this and that person...as if one could forget with the number of repititions in all the books they appear in). But the story's the main thing and I want to know what will happen to those farm boys and girls from long ago so I'll keep hanging out for a lender.

BTW, my favorite character is Moiraine (= Does she come back in Winter's Heart already? I hope so!

Nope. Moiraine hasn't come back in Winter's Heart. I hope Robert Jordan finishes with the tenth book soon. The ninth book's sadly hanging; lots of loose ends need to be settled. I'm personally interested with the Forsaken and their whereabouts. I took pain in re-reading the sixth and ninth book looking for some sign of Semirhage. Her whereabouts and Demandred's are all but kept hidden by Robert Jordan. It took some time before I finally realized that Semirhage has positioned herself among the Seanchan nobility. She probably used Compulsion to make the Seachan empress declare her as Speaker of Truth for her daughter, the Lady Tuon, Daughter of the Nine Moons, after the latter's former Speaker died (probably caused by Semirhage herself). But then, a friend of mine spoiled my celebration at my own discovery by pointing out that Semirhage's identity has all been pasted on every Robert Jordan fan sites.

I've read the whole WoT synopsis on some fan sites. I personally like www.dragonmount.com

But I'm still at Book 6 in terms of book reading. I just started 3 months ago. I really loved Books 4 & 5.

My opinion: Winter's Heart - Book 9 is the best! Especially the ending!!!

in Book 10 - Crossroads of Twilight , only the parts of Mat are good! I don't think i'm spoiling it by saying.... FINALLY!! Daughter of the Nine Moons!!!!

guys, last discussion in this thread was Winter's Heart...

Anyone care to discuss Crossroads of Twilight?

From what I understand from the summaries I've read, the Seanchan have a woman posing as the Daughter of the Nine Moons??? (since the real Tuon is with Mat and the menagerie)

    Who is Semirhage posing as?

There's a companion to the Wheel of Time written by Robert Jordan and Teresa Patterson. I got it in the US for $29. It's great! It has a lot of background stuff on the Forsaken, the Age of Legends, and the likes.

There's also a WoT FAQ on the 'net, it explains a lot of things that are tough to understand, like the death of Asmodean (who the hell killed him?), theories about Mazrim Taim, and the likes. Here's the link: http://www.linuxmafia.com/jordan/

Semirhage, as much as I can guess (and confirmed by the online FAQ) is actually Anath, the retainer of Tuon. Ergo, one of the Forsaken is travelling with Mat, a ta'veren. There are a lot of similarities between Anath and Semirhage. It's explained in the FAQ, check it out.

I personally didn't enjoy Crossroads of Twighlight. It was...like a primer for book 11. I sincerely hope RJ finishes off the series, I think it's been going on too long already. Though the title of Book 10 suggests that the finale is coming up...yeah! T'armon G'aidon!!!!!!

My favorite scenes would be when Rand and Nynaeve use the Choeden Kal to cleanse saidin with saidar. And of course, the Forsaken's collective butt got kicked while that was happening, with the Ashaman and the Aes Sedai linking up. And one of the circles had Callandor! Whoohoo! Too bad Osangar got killed again. Hmmm, maybe the Dark One would recycle him again.

    Things I'm looking forward to:

    - Mat, Perrin, and Rand finally meeting up again. Everytime the 3 ta'veren meet up, something great happens.
    - Moridin battling Rand. Moridin, being the reincarnated Elan Morin Tedronai (Ishmael), has a score to settle (the Companion states that he was soundly defeated by Lews Therin Telamon in a critical battle during the War of Power). With Moridin using the True Power and Rand using cleansed saidin, that's gonna be one heck of a battle!
    - Moiraine's reappearance. I don't think she's dead. For one thing, Min had a viewing of her marrying Thom Merrilin, and Min is never wrong. Secondly, although Lan didn't feel her presence anymore, it doesn't mean that she's dead. The death of a Warder's Aes Sedai is such a shock to the Warder that he is drastically affected by it - of course, Lan, being the last king of the Malkier, is far better than the average Warder, but still. Lastly, Lanfear, who fell into the ter'angreal with Moiraine, was recycled as Cyndane. Who knows what wish of Moiraine was granted?
    - Cadsuane finally teaching something that all the Ashaman have to learn, but won't like it coming from her. One of Min's viewings. Makes you wonder.
    - Elayne giving birth to the twins. Damn, the kids of the Dragon Reborn and one of the most powerful Aes Sedai ought to be smoking.
    - When Lews Therin Telamon and Rand 'al Thor finally work in sync. The last time that happened was in Dumai's Wells, when Rand was captured by the Tower Aes Sedai led by Galina. Using Rand's strength in the One Power combined with the knowledge of Lews Therin makes them an unbeatable combination.

Darn it. I hope book 11 is much better than book 10.

    Chad: wow! awesome revelations!!!!! Thanks!

Where did you get your 411? From the link you provided? I, myself, have been trying to guess who the Forsaken have been posing as.

The Forsaken that is in the White Tower (I forget her name); I still haven't guessed which Aes Sedai she's posing as.

What about these recycled characters you've just mentioned? I don't get that. RJ surely never mentioned anything of that sort? Cyndane = Lanfear? I dunno.....

Everyone in this thread agrees Moiraine isn't dead. woohoo!!!

Seriously though, I'm so sick of the Perrin/Faile storyline.

  12. #92
Dangit. I just stumbled on this thread now. And I am one of those who put off reading Robert Jordan until I couldn't avoid it.

I wish I read his stuff when I first saw it. The Wheel of Time is awesome. Bitin nga lang ako - I only got as far as the fourth book. Frustrating.

Mesaana is the Forsaken at the White Tower. Who she is, no one knows, as far as I can gather. I have a suspicion, although it's a wild guess, that she might be posing as Verin Mathwin, given her mannerisms, and that Moiraine told Rand to be wary of her in the letter given to him before she died. But that's just me guessing. But if it was Verin, I wouldn't be surprised.

Lanfear got recycled as Cyndane, who, like Moghedien, is in a mindtrap courtesy of Moridin (Ishamael). And it could be clearly inferred that Aginor and Balthamel were recycled as Osan'gar and Aran'gar, respectively (given that the latter channels saidin despite being a woman, as Egwene felt when Moghedien escaped).

I'm, still catching up with my book reading. The Path of Daggers is so dragging. Robert Bloody Jordan and his long flaming series. I hope to be done with it so I can read Winter's Heart, although I've read all the summaries, hehe.

    forsaken
Yep, from the FAQ and the Companion. Makes for fantastic reading.

When I said recycled characters, it's basically the Forsaken whom Rand killed and were resurrected by the Dark One. Let's see. Aginor and Balthamel were resurrected as Osan'gar and Aran'gar (Aginor died in TEOTW drawing upon too much saidin, and Balthamel was killed by the Green Man), Ishmael as Moridin (Ishmael was killed in TDR when Rand drew Callandor), Lanfear was either resurrected or granted a wish by the Finns and ends up as Cyndane (she fell into the ter'angreal when pushed by Moiraine in TFOH). You won't find either Rahvin or Be'lal resurrected...they were balefired, and even The Dark One can't resurrect anyone killed by balefire. Same with Asmodean, as the Dark One said that those who betray him will die the final death. The only forsaken who has died and hasn't been resurrected is Sammael (killed by Mashadar in Shadar Logoth while he was fighting Rand) and Osan'gar (killed by Elza at the end of WH).

I personally don't like the Seanchan. I find them boring. I dunno why, but I don't like 'em. Oh, another think I'm looking forward to: the battle between Rand and Padan Fain.

TPOD is interesting because [spoiler start] it's the only book wherein it doesn't end on a good note, with Rand almost going crazy with Callandor. The reason for that is revealed in WH (if I remember correctly.[spoiler end]

I've been meaning to buy the Companion for a long time now but like all WOT fans, WE want a new graphic artist! The current one, I forget his name too, is one of the worst artists around and I can't believe Jordan hired this guy. It's like he never read the books at all and just drew the characters out of his own imagination.

I wish He would hire the noted Fantasy author and Graphic Artist Janny Wurts then I wouldn't be complaining...

I don't like the Seanchan either!! It's just that I've been waiting for that storyline with Mat! He's been my favorite character since he got that damn dagger outta him. He just cracks the hell outta me.

Yeah, I agree Forsaken. The artist's rendition of the various characters in the WoT Companion sucks. The cover art of the different WoT books are ok, but the ones in the Companion? Yech!

A few thoughts on the Seanchan:

In TGH, when Mat blew the Horn of Valere, the Heroes of the Pattern appeared to fight the Seanchan, including Arthur Hawking. But the Seanchan are actually the offspring of Arthur Hawking's son, whom he sent with a huge fleet to cross the ocean during the height of his rule. I wonder why he couldn't convince them to lay down their arms. Hmmm. Maybe because the Seanchan didn't really believe he was Hawking? Or they didn't even know who he was?

The only thing I like about the Seanchan is Tuon, being the Daughter of the Nine Moons, and her foretold marriage with Mat. Also, considering that Anath is (most likely) Semirhage in disguise, I wonder how a battle between her and Mat would end. I'd think that Semirhage is at a disadvantage, with Mat's medallion.

I personally like the story of Perrin & Faile. I really liked that scene in TDR where Perrin spends a day at a blacksmith's shop. It's brilliant of RJ to use Perrin's hammer and axe to illustrate his desire to go back to the simple days being in conflict with his responsibility.

Another storyline that bores me a bit are the Whitecloaks. But far better than the Seanchan.

    Question Wheel of Time Poll

Which of the following Wheel of Time villainesses do you dislike most?

Note: I've excluded the female Forsaken from the list, since they're in a bad world of their own. Immortals are another topic.

The list and their respective claims to infamy:
    Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

High Lady Suroth Fullname: Suroth Sabelle Meldarath
---> Nobody really likes the Seanchan (except for Egeanin and Tuon), and Suroth is as bad a Seanchan can be. A High Lady of the Blood, she took over as the Leader of the Hailene when Turak was killed by Rand. A Darkfriend to boot. A proponent of the damane (one of the most vile concepts of the series), she has kept the secret of the sul'dam being able to channel from the Empress, and some other secrets not yet divulged.
She once had Morgase and Amathera serving her upon their capture, and continues to have the shielded Liandrin (another woman I despise) as her da'covale. She now plans to capture Rand with the Sad Bracelets (male a'dam), presumably when he decides to meet her (as known from Davram Bashere's message).

    Alviarin Friedhen
---> Head of the Black Ajah (publicly of the White) and current Keeper of the Chronicles at the White Tower, conspired with Elaida to overthrow Siuan Sanche from the Amyrlin Seat (one of the chapters I almost ripped from the book when I read it), killing Sahra Covenry (a novice) to get info along the way. The real leader of the White Tower, as it is. Controls the Hall of the Tower, learned Traveling from Mesaana. Even Elaida wants to be rid of her, but seemingly cannot. A cool, calculating villainess, she advised Elaida to make the heads of the Ajahs in the Tower go against each other when the Amyrlin was losing grip on the Hall.

    Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan
---> Current Amyrlin in the White Tower, opposed by the Salidar group headed by Egwene. A raised from the Red Ajah (who likes them, anyway, except the feminist extremists? No offense ). Deposed, tortured and had Siuan Sanche and Leane Sharif stilled. A vain and power-hungry woman, she had a Palace for the Amyrlin built at the former practice yards of the Warders. Has ordered the capture of Elayne Trakand and is plotting to have Gawyn dead "subtly" (he was supposed to die at Dumai's Wells). She sent Aes Sedai to capture Rand and deliver him to the White Tower (foiled at Dumai's Wells). She also sent Aes Sedai to capture, gentle, and hang the men training at the Black Tower (also foiled, resulting to their capture by the Asha'man). Despite having the Foretelling, she is foolishly blinded by her prejudices. Has very few friends outside the Red Ajah.

    Sevanna
---> Roofmistress of the Jumai Sept of the Shaido Aiel. As Suladric and Couladin's widow, she is near-clan chief of the Shaido and head of the Shaido Wise Ones, despite not going to Rhuidean like Couladin. Another power-hungry woman, she plans to capture Rand and manipulate him for her own gain by whatever means necessary, no matter what the cost (the Shaido were almost wiped out at Dumai's Wells because of her stupidity, yet she felt no remorse). She plans to led the Aiel in conquering the wetlands by pulling the Car'a'carn's strings. She now dresses and rides horses like a rich wetlander, and has captured Faile, Bain, Chaid, Amathera, Morgase and company as gai'shain, along with Galina (Black/Red Ajah) and other Aes Sedai from Dumai's Wells. She had Desaine, a Shaido Wise One who opposed her, killed by her fellow Shaido Wise Ones who could channel to get the Shaido to attack Aes Sedai.

Post your votes, Wheel of Time fans!

    Peace.

    Wheel of Time 1- 10

pipol, for me the best fantasy book i've ever read (sorry potter fans, i'm also one of you, but these series rocks). for those who have read the book, share your opinions and predictions specially on who's who, and what will happen to who. down to the last two books. GOD i can't wait.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age the gave it birth comes again.

If you ever pick up a book and you read those lines, wow, it just gives you a start up.

How about the characters of this book?

    Rand Al'Thor
    Perrin Aybara

    Nynaeve Al'Meara
    Egwene The Amyrilin
    Elayne Trakand
    Min Farshaw
    Faile Bashere

    Mazrim Taim
    Logain Ablar
    Siuan Sanche

ah, and the list goes on.
