The Neverending Story --- only the first one was nice.
As for the book...much better! kinda long, but both movies don't even have half of what you'll be reading from the book.

Alaska beat Ginebra 104-80 in game 3, sweeping the series and bagging the Commissioner's Cup title.

The "Message in the Bottle" book was so much better than the movie. It features all of the letters of garett to katherine, a lot of which was not feature clearly in teh movie. It is definetely more touching! you buy the book, it's worth it's price! he has a new novel, "A Walk to Remember". i suggest you look for it now, it's as good as his two earlier novels.Originally posted by tsadi
ow, has anyone read "Message in a Bottle" by Nicholas Sparks ??? ... bigay naman kayu ng feedbacks o... hanggang sa movie lang kase ako kase ang mahal ng book, hehehe ...
ang "The Notebook" ni Nicholas Aparks rin ang ganda ...
isa pa, ive also read "The Bicentennial Man" by Isaac Asimov nung high school ako ... i still remember how the story once touched me, i liked it so much... but, i never saw the movie
, i missed it by a day sa moviehouse, hehe, sa mga nakapanood, was it good ?
I am a LOVE STORY person...i love the book SHINING THROUGH.
and I also love the movie of the same title with Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith. Does anyone have a copy of this movie?
tsadi, i suggest you read the book message in a bottle... like what debie said it is more touching than the film version. i remember when i read it, i almost felt like crying, sobrang emotional kase nung book unlike sa movie na medyo kulang ang dating.
other books:
*John Grisham's novel - some are equally as exciting as the film version. mas magandang basahin na lang yung iba kesa panoorin.
*interview with a vampire - the novel is more exciting dahil super boring yung movie even if it starred Brad and Tom.
The Beach Alex Garland's vision of an earthly paradise turned hell is much more compelling than Danny Boyle's film version.
Silence of the Lambs This is one of the best screen translations.
The Bone Collector Pretty faithful. Pati yung cheesy ending at revelation dinala sa film.
Primal Fear The film version is classier compared to the book.
The Ninth GateBased on Arturo Perez-Reverte's Club Dumas, the plot was essentially a brainteaser, a puzzle to be exact. While Polanski upped the supernatural aspect. Although the movie was quite OK kahit medyo dragging, mas nag-enjoy ako sa spirit ng book.
The Name of the Rose OK screen translation. Although, inedit ang ibang details, it came out pretty faithful.
Lost World (Jurassic Park II) I would say that the movie is better than the book. Actually, you can't compare the two. The screenplay and the novel was written at the same time kaya iba ang storya. Mukhang minadali ni Michael Crichton ang pagkakasulat ng Lost World.
Congo/Sphere Books are way better
13th Warrior They took out a lot of the details that would make the movie more memorable.
Disclosure/Rising Sun Ok lang.
American Psycho Still reading the book. Haven't watched the movie![]()
seen the movie and read the book, and ganda both!

to add, films that showed justice to the books:
english patient - by michael ondaatje
the unbearable lightness of being - milan kundera
the lover - margaret dumas
Movies better than books.
Godfather is a trashy novel; even Mario Puzo admits this. But it made a good plot for a poetic epic of a family saga. Coppola took out the pulpy elements (the girl with the too-big vagina, the excessively violent killings, etc.), slowed the pace down to increase the grandeur, and orchestrated more great performances in a film (Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, James Caan, etc. etc.) than in almost any other epic since. Gordon Willis' shadowy amber light is now a legend in film circles. People still hum Nino Rota's film score. Put together with Godfather 2--which explored the Godfather's roots and extended the consequences of his son's action--and this may be one of the greatest films ever made, and far better than the book.
Rising Sun is a smart stylish film made out of a novel by a not very good writer. Crichton is good for the occasional idea, but his dialogue is wooden and his characters have computer chips for soul (he himself has admitted he has trouble writing believable people). Rising Sun the film plays with the racism of the novel, gives the main characters ambiguity (Wesley Snipes is accused of taking bribes; Sean Connery looks like he's collaborating with the Japanese), and has a sophisticated sense of humor that the novel never has.
Lost World--well, I've already said what I said of Crichton; here Spielberg jettisons most of the novel and just has plain and simple fun. It's Spielberg's darkest and scariest film in years, and the film where he has no message, but just pure visual pleasure, with each dinosaur attack like a comedy routine. It's not just a better film than book, it's Spielberg's best work in years...(though not as good as his Jaws, where he terrifies you more, but with much less effort).
As for Shakespeare--Kurosawa's Ran is a beautiful epic adaptation of King Lear. His Throne of Blood is a wonderfully visual adaptation of Macbeth, both without using a single word.
Then there is Orson Welles. He films Othello like a blood thriller. He takes four Shakesperean plays--Henry IV parts 1 & 2, Henry V, and The Merry Wives of Windsor, and condenses them into Chimes of Midnight--not just the greatest Shakesperean film ever made, but one of the greatest films ever made, period (yes, even over The Godfather films).
FORREST GUMP--the movie is better than the book, although the book is funnier. but i think tom hanks' portrayal of the forrest character is moer touching than the book's forrest (medyo iba kasi eh)
Most of the books made out of John Grisham books were pretty ok at the start (The Firm being one of the better) but the rest seem to be so ho hum...
I really enjoyed High Fidelity the book and the movie were equally cool.
Also liked the movie adaptian of the Name of the Rose... a whodunit in a medieval fashion

i prefer books. elaboration. allows me to see through the characters' minds.

The Relic The movie didn't explain the guy's transformation into the monster. Of course, the novel didn't have the restrictions of time, so it described in detail the biology of the plant and the reasons why the monster is shaped as such. The film version became a monster movie crossed with Die Hard in a museum. The book is infinitely better.
hmm lemme think..
1. THE EXORCIST - the book is better than the movie though the movie is also good.
2. DOLORES CLAIBORNE- kulang sa presentation of characters *** movie. the novel is sobrang buhay with characters kase esp *** character ni dolores tapos sa movie kulang.
3. MISERY- both the movie and the novel are great.
4. CARRIE- iniba *** story sa movie. somehow i liked the movie better pero maganda den *** novel.
5. THE SHINING- the movie's great! di ko pa tapos *** novel.
6. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE- sobrang mas maganda *** novel!! ang gusto ko lang sa mvoie eh *** character ni Claudia. galing kase ni kirsten dunst eh!
7. PRIMAL FEAR- the novel's great; the movie sucked!!
8. BULAKLAK NG MAYNILA- mas gusto ko *** movie!
9. LARO SA BAGA- the novel's better!!
10. BATA, BATA PAANO KA GINAWA- both are amazing!
11. MAYNILA, SA KUKO NG LIWANAG- same, both are amazing!
12. THE WINGS OF THE DOVE- ganda *** novel. maganda den *** movie kaso the problem with movies are nababawasan *** intensity ng mga characters!
13. JUDE, THE OBSCURE- i think both are great..
14. DR. SUESS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS- this is funny! imagine kung gaano kakapal *** book tapos nagawa nilang movie? and the movie's funny and touchy.. GREAT!
15. GONE WITH THE WIND- parehong pareho! both are amazing!
hmmm ano pa ba??? dadagdagan ko nalang ulit..
Gone with the Wind starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh is one of my favorite classic movies! The book is likewise beautiful. However, the miniseries of its sequel "Scarlett" was incredibly disappointing. I definitely recommend reading the novel written by Alexandra Ripley.Originally posted by |ostsou|

I'm waiting for Harry Potter: The Sorceror's Stone... I wanna see Quidditch!!!
I know comparisons can't really be helped between books and their movie adaptations but it's not really very healthy to do so because they are two entirely different art forms. It would be pretty unfair to let the two compete against the other because each is with its merits and weaknesses.
I think I read a movie critic say that once. He always had to force himself to approach movies (based on books) with an open mind and without any expectations because it would be at totally new experience altogether.
"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson
the movie (starring johnny deep and benicio del toro) stayed pretty close to the book. you have to read the book at least 3 times before watching the movie, or else you're gonna get lost in raoul duke's stream-of-consciousness ramblings. and when you do watch the movie, you'd have to watch it at least another 3 times before you could finally see the beauty of the film.
