Beggars cannot be choosers.

so sorry to hear this. it really sucks but i second the suggestion that you ask your travel agent to apply for your passport on your behalf.

i must admit i made the same mistake of going to the dfa to renew my passport when i could have done it by phone. i remember having to wait in line for 4 or 5 hours to get it. whenever you go to a government office, take a book with you or anything you can use to kill time.

as i was also applying for a foreign visa, i had to go to the nso twice to get a copy of my birth certificate, first to submit an application and second time to pick it up... again had to wait about 5 hours each time. it had to be 'authenticated' at the dfa, malacanang and the foreign embassy concerned... which didn't take as much time as at the nso office, but did cost much more, about 1000 pesos in total, maybe even more.

speaking of the embassy, the only way to contact them was through a special pay-per-call number with a automated message that enumerates in detail all the necessary documents for visa application before you could reach anyone at the embassy. you pay for this 5 to 10 minute speech each time you contact them. be prepared for unexpected costs!

at the foreign embassy i was asked to submit 4 passport photos, instead of only 3 as written on their 'requirements' list. always have extra photos and photocopies of certificates and other documents ready!

i know i could have asked my travel agent to settle all of this, but i was stupid and crazy i wanted to do it 'manually'. well, it was a real eye-opener i must say.

don't give up!!! just a bit more patience and you'll soon see the light at the end of the tunnel. GOOD LUCK!
