    my favorite grisham works:

    A Time to Kill
    The Testament
    The Street Lawyer

these 3 novels are probably the most dramatic grisham novels that i have read.

desdemona is right...the chamber really hit my soft spot...and to think i don't get affected by movies or books that would make a grown woman cry! really, it's such a good book...but then books by Grisham are undeniably terrfic naman e.

i love john grisham... i have all his books except yung the summons... im hoping to get the hardbound book on my birthday..

for me, runaway jury is the best... sobrang gusto ko yung kwento, ive even read the book 10 times..

mejo nag-iba nga lang sya ng style of writing lately... maybe he wanted to try writing about other stuffs and not focus on courtroom-dramas... pero with his new book "the summons", he is back...

i didnt really like a painted house... but i did like Skipping Christmas for its simplicity...

john grisham is the first adult author i started reading (i was in high school then. before him, i was reading nancy drew and hardy boys). i started with the firm and the pelican brief...since then, i was hooked. i've read the chamber, the partner, the runaway jury and the street lawyer.

after the last one, medyo nagtaper-off yung desire ko to read his work. by this time, syempre, i started reading books by other authors. pero grisham remains a favorite. i remember he was even the topic of a talk i delivered in speech class in college (my prof gave me a 1.25, not bad, eh?)

anyway, i thought the street lawyer tried too hard to be moralistic. grisham experimented with the theme of poverty and homelessness, and not that i think he didn't do a good job, but i just felt that wasn't his style, parang hindi bagay e...i'm sure you guys understand...when you say grisham, talagang courtroom drama, legal thriller ang pumapasok sa isip mo.

i've yet to read his last few works, namely the testament, the brethren, a painted house, skipping christmas and his latest, the summons. i'm especially intrigued with "the summons." they say it's grisham's return to the legal arena...some say it's his best work yet...

here's a review from USA today...

Some of my happiest, most relaxing reading moments have been spent in the entertaining company of John Grisham. And his new novel, The Summons (in stores Tuesday), ranks as my absolute favorite in many years. After taking a break from writing legal thrillers to write the more literary A Painted House and the holiday fable Skipping Christmas, the prolific Grisham appears more fresh. First, there is an ending too delicious and morally instructive to give away. Second, the novel, Grisham's 14th, skillfully tours the New South of gambling casinos, endless self-storage centers and ultra-rich lawyers who sue multinational corporations

Third, The Summons turns the mirror on the reader's own assumptions about other human beings, including the very flawed. To wheel out the old cliché, I gobbled this book down in one sitting, not for work but for pleasure.

Two brothers are summoned to Clanton, Miss., by their dying father, Reuben Atlee. Once a beloved local judge who gave liberally to all who asked, Atlee became a recluse in his last sad years after he lost his last election.

He lived alone and sick in a decaying antebellum shamble called Maple Run. His two sons are right out of the Bible's prodigal son story. Ray has become a mildly successful tenured law professor at the University of Virginia, while his younger brother, Forrest, has devoted himself to drugs, alcohol and trouble. Reuben, of course, disapproves of Forrest's lifestyle, but has spent thousands on rehab and legal bills for his wayward son.

But life has had its own pain for Ray. His apparently happy marriage tanked suddenly when his wife got a better offer from an extremely rich older Wall Street operator. Female pragmatism and the lifestyle of the Charlottesville nouveau riche have rarely been better or more swiftly limned.

Ray arrives at Maple Run. He discovers not only that his father is dead on the couch but also that there is more than $3 million in cash hidden in stationery boxes in his father's study. A will instructs Ray to divide the judge's assets with his brother and to act as the executor.

Where that money came from and its effect on Ray provides The Summons with a compelling plot, a reason to travel all over Mississippi and an ending that makes the reader question what actions he or she would have taken in the same situation.

Grisham combines mystery, legal details, humor and lots of color.

(The little town of Clanton has some very memorable characters, from mildly retarded but ethical jailers to libidinous lawyers working on their fourth wives.)

    Consider yourself summoned.

i love john grisham! i love courtroom action, nakaka-aliw manood ng mga ganon but surprisingly, i have never felt that i wana be a lawyer

i've read 'the brethren,' and no, it's not good. it's not the typical grisham-style if u know what i mean. i was pretty disappointed coz that's what i asked as a Christmas present from someone special tas un, hindi lang ako nagandahan

'a time to kill' is still the best

    maganda ba *** the firm?

"A Painted House" the boy really touched me.

But wait.. what will happen to Ricky? Will Luke play for the Cardigans?

i simply admired this boy, he's only 7 and he already knows a lot. And he calls the elders ma'ams and sirs. which most kids will think it's shameful.

my fave Grisham book would have to be

Runaway Jury - ganda un story kaso ayaw ko un ending... pero basta ganda parin ng story, galing ng pagkasulat!

The Partner - galing ng pagkagawa sa twist... never boring... hde mo maibababa un book!

    The Rainmaker - kakatouch... hehe..

un The Chamber di ko nabasa eh... napanood ko lang un movie.

pinakaboring un The Pelican Brief... haaaaaaay... di ko na tinapos un book... un The Street Lawyer naman di ko nagustuhan, medyo boring kse tapos sobrang ang unrealistic na nung dating ng story... of course its suppose to be unrealistic kse fiction sya... but still... parang... hmm... basta... sobrang crap... un lang...
