THE 13TH HOUR - RICHARD DOESTSCH

A mesmerizing thriller -- told in reverse!
"The 13th Hour" is the story of a man given the chance to go back in time in one-hour increments to prevent a vicious crime from destroying his life.

Nick Quinn is being held in jail, accused of the murder of his beloved wife, Julia. He knows she's dead; he saw her bloody corpse, shot in the head at point-blank range. The police tell him they found the murder weapon with his fingerprints on it in the trunk of his car. Nick is confused, grief-stricken -- "and completely innocent."

At 9 p.m. on July 28, a gray-haired gentleman visits Nick in the police interrogation room and asks him a simple question: ""If you could get out of here, if you could save her, would you?"" He hands Nick a golden talisman that allows Nick to go back in time, one hour at a time, for a total of twelve hours. With each hour that Nick travels back, he finds more clues to the identity of Julia's real killer, but he also discovers that his actions in the past may have unexpected repercussions in the future.

In his race against time to save the woman he loves most in the world, Nick will find that friends become enemies, old loyalties are tested, and Julia's murder is part of a larger scheme that has its roots in greed and vengeance. Nick has the ability to save Julia, the chance to put his own world in balance, but he is venturing down a precarious route. If he hasn't set things right by the thirteenth hour, his desperate attempts to save Julia's life may lead to a far greater catastrophe than he could have ever imagined.

A surprising and utterly original thriller, "The 13th Hour" is pure page-turning suspense -- full of double crosses, cliffhangers, and shocking revelations.

    A CENTURIES-OLD MYSTERY.
    AN "ACCIDENTAL" DEATH.
A CONSPIRACY THAT MAY END IN MURDER.

Former British Special Air Service officer Ben Hope is running for his life. Enlisted by Leigh Llewellyn—the beautiful, world-famous opera star and Ben’s first love—to investigate her brother, Oliver’s, mysterious death, Ben finds himself caught up in a puzzle dating back to the 1700s.

Though the official report states that Oliver died in a tragic accident, the facts don’t add up. The day Oliver died he sent Leigh all the files realted to his unfinished book on Mozart. As Ben and Leigh piece together Oliver's research, they discover that Mozart --- a notable Freemason --- may have been killed by a shadowy and powerful splinter group of the organization. In the hopes of coming closer to understanding what really happened to Oliver, Ben and Leigh set out to find a missing letter written by Mozart that may prove that the composer's death was really a murder. But after the receipt of a frightening video documenting a ritual sacrifice performed by hooded men --- and with armed assassins at their heels --- Ben and Leigh quickly hooded men, they realize that the sect is still in existence today and will stop at nothing to keep its secrets safe.

From the dreaming spires of Oxford and Venice’s labyrinthine canals to the majes*tic architecture of Vienna, Ben and Leigh must race across Europe to uncover the truth behind the Mozart conspiracy before they become its next victims.

In the tradition of Robert Ludlum and Dan Brown, Scott Mariani’s The Mozart Conspiracy is an electrifying thriller and the start of an exciting new series.

    HEADHUNTERS - JO NESBO

Roger Brown is a corporate headhunter, and he’s a master of his profession. But one career simply can’t support his luxurious lifestyle and his wife’s fledgling art gallery. At an art opening one night he meets Clas Greve, who is not only the perfect candidate for a major CEO job, but also, perhaps, the answer to his financial woes: Greve just so happens to mention that he owns a priceless Peter Paul Rubens painting that’s been lost since World War II—and Roger Brown just so happens to dabble in art theft. But when he breaks into Greve’s apartment, he finds more than just the painting. And Clas Greve may turn out to be the worst thing that’s ever happened to Roger Brown.

With Headhunters, Jo Nesbo has crafted a funny, dark, and twisted caper story worthy of Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers

What if mythology isn’t myth? The ancient Greeks told fabulously detailed stories involving unbelievable creatures - monsters dominating all tales from that time. Were they just highly imaginative, or was their inspiration from somewhere else?

Doctor Talbot Harrison, a professor in archeology, receives a phone call one day which will destroy everything he perceives as reality. His brother has been mysteriously killed and within moments the United States Military appear at his door, literally dragging him from his home. Thrown into a helicopter under intense armed guard, it doesn’t take long until they are attacked by something which cannot possibly exist, something drawn to destroy the one man who can stop the beasts from a land beyond Hades...

STILL LIFE WITH JUNE - DARREN GREER

The people in gay bars on Christmas Day are so desperate for basic human contact that they'd go home with a Doc Marten shoe if it made a move, and maybe even if it didn't.

So begins the story of Cameron Dodds, a disenfranchised writer who visits gay bars on Christmas and works at a Salvation Army Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center in order to steal the stories of the people he meets there. But when Cameron finds a patient hanged in the utilities closet, his infatuation with other people's stories becomes an obsession. Assuming the man's identity, Cameron seeks out and forges a relationship with the victim's mentally challenged sister, who lives in a home uptown. As Cameron becomes more involved in the woman's life, he begins to discover truths that will challenge him to the very core of his identity.

"The Yacoubian Building" by Alaa Al Aswany

    Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Yacoubian-Buil.../dp/9774248627

Bought this book in Alexandria November of 2009, a little more than a year before the revolution. It's only now that I got around to actually read it- during the presidential election!

I think the characters will stay with me for a long time.

^It was popular when it came out. Aswany even came out to a couple of TV shows for interview here. I was impressed with the interview (given the interview I watched as in the Daily Show...or was it the Colbert Report) There's a BBC interview as well. That one was a lot more boring. Thank you for piquing my interest.

LOL I have to say I'm right with my prediction: a Muslim Brother(hood) or back to military rule. Arab Spring is a waste. LOL.
