LOL! what do those terms mean?

  3. #3

Ilustrado is a Spanish word which means "enlightened one." Strictly speaking, it refers to anyone, regardless of social class, who is well-educated, or at least, is a great thinker. For some reason, the connotation of the ilustrado has been twisted to indicate "wealth" and "upper class." But anyway, going back to the real meaning, an ilustrado can be a poor guy who has read a lot of stuff, thinks a lot, and probably got a scholarship to study... Basta, it's not how much money an "ilustrado" has, but rather, what kind of brain he's got. If you want to apply the word to a female, then use "ilustrada..."
