malabo siguro. it would cost a lot of money (na alam naman natin na medyo malabo yun) and hiwa hiwalay talaga yugn venues nun. mahirap magka olympic village. diba sa seagames malalayo yung mga venues?

    pero pinaka factor jan: MONEY.

    siguro di pa ngayon.

    Question

Manila hosted the World Women's Volleyball Grand Prix, the South East Asian Games of 1991 and the World Chess Olympiad sometime during the 1990's. All of the said events were very successful.

I have browsed in the International Olympic Committee homepage (http://www.olympic.org) and found out that our neighboring countries Malaysia (with Kuala Lumpur), China (with Beijing) and Thailand (with Bangkok) are bidding to become the host city of the 2008 Summer Olympics. If ever KL or Bangkok would win as host city, it will be the first time that the Summer Olympics will be held in the tropics...

So question is, do you think Manila or any other major city of the Philippines like Davao and Cebu can play host to the Summer Olympics or even to the Asian Games? Is it possible for the country to play host to such big sporting events since we had successfully played host to some of the major sporting events like the ones mentioned previously?

Manila may host the Olympics but probably not in another 30 to 40 years. First of all, Manila does not have a world-class sports stadium to hold the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as Athletics events. Also, Manila and the Philippines suffers from an image of poor security, poor sanitation and poor infrastructure, among others. These are the factors that the International Olympic Committee considers in evaluating bids. So, the country must really invest a long time in preparing for this endeavor.

Btw, I heard Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur already dropped out of the running for the 2008 Games in favor of Beijing.

Hell no. We do not have the resources to finance such and endeavor, nor do we have the structural capacity to host such a world event. Hosting an international conference is one thing, but inviting a fraction of the worlds population to participate and be spectators to the Olympics in any city in this country is far away in Lala Land!

We have enough problems as it is with our own population density, road works, drainage, traffic, so on and so forth. There is no possibility that we can hope to even win a bid to host the Olympics even if we did have the far out chance of sufficient financial backing. To tell the truth, I don't think that we can even hope for such a bid even a century from now... but I sure hope I'm wrong.

unless some amazing improvements occur within the next decade or so, i believe that the Phlippines will never host the Olympics.

Maybe in 50 years the Philippines can, but as of now its impossible. Malaysia, China and Thailand have infrastructures which our country does not have. They have big and well managed airports, sports facilities, and other infrastructures which are vital to the Olympics.

I saw the Sydney Olympic site. Quite impressive lalo na, when you realize that the area was a landfill before. Oks yung idea nila, they made small hills all around the Olympic Park which they call Olympic markers out of these landfills. *ching!* meron tayong smokey mountain saka payatas!!! we can do it!!! hehehe

but seriously? i don't think it is possible in the near future...maybe not even in my lifetime... but who knows...diba?

the answer to that question is HELL NO!!

bago mag olympics dito yung perang gagastusin nila eh bigay na lang nila sa mahihirap!!!

No Way!!! First of all you have to have a budget for building facilities that will cater for all sports included in the Olympics in one area accessible to the Olympic Village. And where will you find that big space in Manila? Its possible if other Filipino cities would host it, but where will you find the money? Lets just be a host for ourselves and cater for our own sports development. Just look at our sports program, if there is any.

    oo nga naman!

seriously, not any time soon at all. sad to say pero we don't even have the resources to do this. sobrang matagal pa iyan! just to advertise nga lang or vie for the spot eh ang hirap-hirap. malaking pera na agad ang magagamit.

    why not?

well, at least not in the next four or five Olympics.

even if we have the money (w/c we certainly don't), we have a lot to prove to the international community that we can contain security issues. during the next few years, masama pa image natin in terms of crimes and terrorism.

infrastructure-wise, well projects can be easily drawn and certainly we're not lacking in logistics, kaya nga lang, no money to build. places like the subic and clark eco zones are excellent places to build an Olympic village.

saying definitely No is like saying na wala na tayong asensong mga Pinoy.

we can do a lot even in 10 years, minimum. a safer guess could be 20 years to enable us to at least seriously bid.

Possible but it may take very long since Manila seems not suitable for a huge event like that of the Olympics because of its overcrowded image. Also the budget should be the top of the key since the event badly need new sports complexes and facilities in different venues. And security reasons must also priority in case bid to Olympics comes.

Since Manila seems not that suitable then maybe the cities of Cebu and Davao can able to host, at least becasue of their area and when we speak of tourism. But we have to consider that Manila have been known throughout the world unlike the other two cities mentioned.
