incidentally, i think (though im not sure) that Stuff and PULP share a photographer, Erik Liongoren. i like his candids and concert photography. he also did a good job for the Stuff cover with VJs Benilda and KC (i think it was him...not sure ). anyway, pero when the made him do PULP covers (the chill and battery covers), medyo pangit. at least to my taste.

    Question Photography for beginners

    Need your help, pros!

I've started getting into photography on my own but I'd like to get more in depth. I want to learn the basics of everything: Camera, camera settings, film speed, film type, developing my own photos, etc.

Are there classes or workshops out there for beginners?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

    pasingit...

I use a Yashica 635 6x6TLR. I sold my Mamiya RB because I want my photography to be as simple as possible I used to be a techie freak but it all boils down to one thing
is that to get the best image possible. By the way i know Gari Buenavista...and i think he's one of the Most Underrated Photgraper i have ever known. Ang lulupit ng mga photos nya.

    peacelove!

miguel n, i like erik liongoren's pitures too. gusto ko din pictures ni brandie tan (milk and stuff) he did that francis magalona cover for fly magazine yata. (basta yung francis m. na nag yoyosi.) i liked that a lot!

chill and battery covers ng pulp? di ko pa nakikita. hinde naman talaga tasteful si chill so kahit na anong ganda ng kuha, pangit pa rin... (i hate chill)

yeah, i knew gary for a short while lang habang nag practicum ako dun. sobrang funny at okay kasama. not to mention, as you say, underrated. and to think that he does it all with an old manual Pentax and a 35mm lens. exposure nya and flash values nya, puro hula, based on his experience. gary can indeed see.

as they say, its the carpenter, not the hammer.

i think it was the 2nd and 3rd issue kung kelan lumabas ang batter and chill, respectively. not their best covers talaga

okay naman si chill ah...medyo tabain lang dont listen to her music though...

anyway, back on topics, hope erik can do better covers soon. ill check out that brandy tan you're talking about :_

    Hi Juno!

A good way to learn it to take classes. The price of these classes varies eh. Check out the other photography threads, one of them has some details about the class they have in UP. I think Mowelfund and the Photographers Assoc of the Phil (I forget their official name..darnit) hold workshops every summer.

That's a good way to learn. The best way to learn, in my opinion, is to use an all manual camera, one lense (preferably and 50mm...but your opinion may vary ) and just shoot, shoot, shoot, asses, asses asses. Buy magazines with great photos (e.g. Nat'l Geographic, American Photo) and compare. Read up on photography books din.

I took a workshop a few summers ago. Mainly, from the workshop I got to familiarize myself with my camrera (I use Nikon...btw). But the best way to really see is through continous shooting and assesing.

Good luck, its a great hobby (vocation for some) you're thinking of getting into.

    Wishing you good light,
    miguel

photography is really interesting. kasi sometimes you can make some things appear differently from reality. like u can make a person really sexy by the way u capture it.

gusto ko nga mag-nude eh, tapos artistic then balck and white. di kasama yung face, baka masira yung art eh..

    ey juno!
miguel's right. i suggest you learn it the basics yourself. since you're on the net you could download articles on how your camera works... aperture, shutter speed, depth of field etc.
don't get frustrated though. it would be tough at first but eventually you'll get to love it.
good luck nalang and post the opics you're proud of

Hey guys, what's the best brand of photo paper for you? I don't have a darkroom, but I might be able to rent one soon, and I'd like to try paper other than Kodak. Matte sana. Suggestions naman! TY!
