The d3100 should be ok to use with an IR filter. Camera have different sensitivity to IR light but it should be ok to use a filter. The adjustment when using IR. filters is the exposure length. IR filters are very very dark filters, therefore exposure is usually longer than a minute (unless you increase your ISO which will result naman in a very grainy photo).

Other than a filter you'll probably need a remote because you'll be shooting in bulb mode. You'll need a tripod as well to keep the camera steady.

Mabusisi ang IR and expensive ang equipment (hoya r72 = $250) but it's very rewarding. Favorite ko taking IR PHotos of foliage because chlorohyll always appear white in IR photos when converted to b&w. Tapos ganda din the sky/clouds kasi long exposures mean the clouds will streal tapos the sky is black.

Since I can't afford the 50mm f1.2, okay na ba yung 50mm f1.4?
There's also this 85mm f1.8 lens. Read that it's for portrait as well. Tama ba?

Yep. 85mm is good for portraits. Its far enough so that the model/subject will not feel self conscious. Also, telephotos will make your subjects look smaller (skinnier).

My first ever lens is a 18-200mm. I use it until now, even on paid stints. It's quite versatile.

And between 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4, choose the latter so you won't have to get too close to your subject.



Anyhoo... a boring portrait, I know but I just wanted to see if my wallpaper photographs well. And I look stupid holding my Kodak Jiffy like that, but whatever.




One below is from a quick shoot I did with a well-loved fashion house here, for their resort collection 2012.




Both taken with 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. Natural light.

Yung kit lens na 18-55mm.

And as usual, ang ganda ng kuha mo.
Pati ikaw ang ganda.
