I'm not going to call this a FAQ because the bullets are not in question form.

Please read this short set of guidelines before posting. This is just a paraphrasing of the User Agreement, but since no one didn't seem to really read that document before clicking "I Agree", I'm gonna highlight a few points here. I hope this will clear up any confusion regarding my actions.

Arguing on the Internet: This is definitely okay. A disagreement or exchange of arguments is not necessarily a flame war. It only becomes a flame war when profanities and personal attacks are used.

Dealing with Difficult People: If you encounter a person who has a penchant for flames, swear words and senseless comments, report that person to me, and do not engage that person further. File the report and then forget about it and stop replying. It would be faster and easier for me to handle the situation if only one person acted like a 12-year-old. Having more than one person involved in the battle to save pride will only tangle things up and make the process longer.

Piracy: We live in a time when people get jailed for downloading the wrong things. Check the news and you'd see that downloaders and filesharers are being tracked down more and more. On the side of PEx, we would like to avoid being branded (and possibly prosecuted) as a site that houses (and therefore supports) a substantial amount of people involved in illegal activity. That is the reason why the admins, me included, have been sensitive to posts concerning piracy.

Furthermore, your user information details will be divulged by PEx if so demanded by legal entities with the proper warrants and sufficient authority (User Agreement, Section 7B). Remember that we have logs of every IP address you have ever used (which can be crossreferenced with ISP logs to reveal phone numbers, companies, and subscribers). So I guess even without the rule against piracy, it would do you better to refrain from posting such info on this site.

As for what is prohibited and what is not (because I know a lot of people love to teeter-totter along that fine line), let's just say that by entering any discussion about piracy, you are already in the Red Zone. Discussing piracy itself as an issue is okay, but posting something that pushes people in the "right direction" is not.

Assistance: Though few people ever do it, yes it is possible to reach me through PM for a request or two. I can create polls, and find antiquated threads.

Selling Games and Consoles: While it may seem to make sense to sell game-related items here, it really does not. Most of the readers who visit this section already have their games and just want to talk about those games. People who read this section are rarely interested in buying new things, so posting an ad here wouldn't give much results. People who intend to buy stuff usually visit the Classifieds section, so it's recommended that you post your ads there.

Free Stuff, Free Games, and Referrals: PEx does not have a specific rule against asking people to click on referral links, but I personally would recommend you to be honest and tell people that the link you just posted will add credits to your account on that site. Most readers here are technically in the know and recognize referrals when they see them. So posting a link that could fool people into clicking... won't really fool anyone, so best be honest about it.

Piracy threads have been surfacing quite frequently recently, so I thought of posting a reminder to all that discussions that generally help people to obtain illegal material are prohibited in PEx.

Here are a few specific examples of software (video game) piracy that we try to regulate in this forum. Please read them carefully to get an idea on what is allowed and not.

* Asking where to buy fake games

* Telling a member where to buy fake games

* Offering to copy a game for another person's use

* Asking or telling where to download game installers or related game files

* Asking or telling where to download ISO files for CD or DVD burning

* Asking or telling where to download ROM files to run on emulators

* Asking for technical help in using peer-to-peer programs for downloading installers, ISO files, and ROM files

Of course, I can't cover every single scenario that may happen, so please do try to use common sense in determining if something is bad or not.

Here are a few obligatory notes to ward off pilosopos:

* I won't tolerate file download queries even if you say that you own the original and just want a backup. If you want a backup or are missing a few files, it's best to try to contact the maker of the game directly. In all other cases, try looking at other sources since PEx won't be able to help you in this regard.

* I am aware that file transfer and p2p technology are legal. Downloading copyrighted games, however, is not. In any case, if you want help in p2p technology in general, I believe the major p2p programs have their own official message boards. You should start from there.

Short answer: Stop replying. Kung sa tingin mo ay mahirap kausapin ang kausap mo, mas ok kung tinigil mo na lang ang pakikipag usap sa kanya.

The reason why fights in the internet stretch out multiple pages is that everyone wants to win. No one wants to bail out of a debate with the other party having the wittier last word. The problem is that there aren't really any awards or medals for winning fights on the internet. The only thing you get is lost time and expended energy.

Hello. There have been a surge of threads recently about using custom firmware and unlicensed cartridges for certain gaming devices. My advice is for users to tone down, since the use of these violates the terms of use for those consoles, and may very well lead to the voiding of warranties of unsuspecting readers.

We also all know that these can also be used to play bootleg games, and though we know that M33 and R4, for example, can be used for other productive means such as watching movies and using internet chat, uninformed people will just see them as piracy threads and this will lead to the degradation of our image as a community.

So my advice is to please tone down. Thank you.
