The first time I heard When You Were Young playing on MTV, just by the type of music, I knew it was The Killers.

I really love the first single from Sam's Town... Can't wait for this album!

Arrow Sam's Town: The Killers' new album

Sam's Town is the second studio album by Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers. It is scheduled to be released on October 2, 2006 in the UK and October 3 in the US by Island Records and Lizard King Records. The first single scheduled for release from the album is "When You Were Young." The second single released will be "Bones", the music video was directed by Tim Burton and has already been shot. It will feature computer graphics, skeletons, and references to Burton's movies among other things.[1] The album is said to be influenced by the works of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, among others. The album was leaked onto file sharing sites on Tuesday September 26, 2006, and can currently be heard in its entirety on MTV's "The Leak".[2]

    Track listing:
    01. "Sam's Town" - 4:05
    02. "Enterlude" - 0:49
    03. "When You Were Young" - 3:39
    04. "Bling (Confession of a King)" - 4:08
    05. "For Reasons Unknown" - 3:32
    06. "Read My Mind" - 4:03
    07. "Uncle Jonny" - 4:25
    08. "Bones" - 3:46
    09. "My List" - 4:08
    10. "This River Is Wild" - 4:38
    11. "Why Do I Keep Counting?" - 4:23
    12. "Exitlude" - 2:24
    13. "Where The White Boys Dance (iTunes Bonus Track & Import Bonus Track)" - 3:28
    14. "All The Pretty Faces (Import Bonus Track)" - 4:45

Some interesting tidbits about the album:
    * The album takes its name from Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, a hotel-casino in Las Vegas, the hometown of the band.
    * The band's lead singer, Brandon Flowers, was quoted as saying that 'Sam's Town' will be "the best album in the past twenty years" in the October 2006 edition of Giant magazine.

i bought it yesterday and i've only listened to it a couple of times. hmmm... i really, really like this band... but i'm not too sure about this album. super warbly ng vocals ni Brandon. and unlike Hot Fuss, which to me was awesome, medyo hindi "accessible" yung majority ng mga kanta sa Sam's Town. most of the time, the tracks just seem to mesh into one giant super-long song. i like the slower songs (2 lang ata) cos they provide some sort of a break from the monotony of the other songs.

that being said, maybe i should give the album a couple more listens. baka ma-enjoy ko rin eventually. hehe.

di ko gusto, mas maganda yung hot fuss.

tsaka parang ampangit ng pagka-master, parang kulang sa mid at sobra ang high. ang ingay tuloy. o baka pangit lang quality ng download ko? hahahah joke lang yun.

well i did give the album a couple more listens... and what do you know! gustong-gusto ko na ngayon! i got past the warbly/shouty vocals and the somewhat grainy quality of the songs. now that i know the lyrics and the meaning behind the songs, i definitely appreciate the album more. a lot of the songs are about Brandon and his family and their troubles.

Bling (Confessions of a King) - a song about Brandon's father who turned his back on alcoholism and Catholicism to become a Mormon

Uncle Jonny - about how uncle survived a cocaine habit, a paranoid obsession with 1984 (by Orwell), and the conviction that aliens were coming to steal his semen making him shoot his testicles in the shower (he missed, and shot himself in the groin instead. no major damage done)

Why Do I Keep Counting? - a favourite of mine on the album. there's a funny story behind this one. he's deathly afraid of flying and dying ("will i live to have children?"), and he listens to tapes of his sessions with his therapist during flights. he also has a problem with the numbers 621 (his birthday 6-21). there was a time when he had to fly to Europe on his birthday. not surprisingly, he was a total wreck that time.

Sam's Town - about his Grandma's funeral. this was the first time he's had an encounter with death in the family.

here's my take on a couple of the other songs:

For Reasons Unknown - a breakup song. and an intelligent one too, if i may say so

Bones - a song about wanting to get laid. simple and fun

    ^ BUY IT!!

it's waaay different from Hot Fuss, though. i reckon you'll have to give it a number of listens before you fully like the whole album. there are a couple of songs with great hooks that you'll definitely sing and bop your head to.

    BUY IT!!

one week later, i posted this...

well i did give the album a couple more listens... and what do you know! gustong-gusto ko na ngayon! i got past the warbly/shouty vocals and the somewhat grainy quality of the songs. now that i know the lyrics and the meaning behind the songs, i definitely appreciate the album more.
my initial rating for the album was only a 6/10. now, i'm giving it a 9/10

here's what i've read about the stories behind the songs. i'll also include my take on some of the songs.

Sam's Town - a little shoutout to the guys' favourite bar/casino in Las Vegas named Sam's Town. the song also mentions Brandon's grandma's funeral, his brother's birthday (4th of July), etc.

For Reasons Unknown - a breakup song. and an intelligent one too, if i may say so. probably my favourite track on the album

Bones - a song about wanting to get laid. simple and fun. i heard this is gonna be their second single, plus, Tim Burton directed their music video.

they also included a couple of "intro" and "goodbye" songs which i absolutely adore.

  17. #57
no way, TIM BURTON?! that's gotta be the coolest.

  18. #58
    n3d_d2x? nandiro ka rin? hahaha

hot fuss is an excellent album, no fillers indeed.

when i first heard "when you were young", i was actually kind of disappointed because their signature "difficult" sound wasn't there anymore, like they reduced theur music to a lower level. but i gave to admit i warmed up to sam's town real good. the songs are still great, and there's this more mature vibe to them, i really like it.

but if i were to choose which album i'd take with me to a deserted island? doubtlessly it will be hot fuss.

  19. #59
it's different from hot fuss, but not far from it. i like the songs, especially 'read my mind', and 'this river is wild'. 'my list' and 'why do i keep counting?', are the two songs i get bored with when i listen to the album. but all in all, the album's okay. but hot fuss is still a better listen for me.

  20. #60
currently listening - Bones... and i like it.. a lot!!!
