Read an article about vitamin C while I was browsing, dami palang benefits ang vitaminC.. I'm planning kasi na wag na magvitamins pero sayang pala dahil madami palang benefits na makukuha from it.. Share ko Lang..
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble nutrient that is vital to all creatures. Foods that are especially rich in vitamin C are parsley, broccoli, bell peppers, strawberries, oranges, lemon juice, papaya, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens and Brussels sprouts. Here are seven reasons to include vitamin C in your daily meals:
Immunity Not only is vitamin C a well-known component of your immune system, it is also necessary for collagen, the main structural protein found in connective tissue. A healthy dose of vitamin C will protect your body from infection and maintain healthy bones and teeth, as well as quicken the body’s ability to repair wounds.
Common Cold Along with its immune functions that fight against bacteria, viruses, and infection, vitamin C also serves as an affective antihistamine that will lessen the unpleasant effects of the common cold, including inflammation, stuffy nose and aches.
Antioxidant Vitamin C is a powerful and effective antioxidant that protects our bodies from free radicals that cause oxidative stress. Excessive oxidative stress, or "cellular rust," can lead to a host of severe medical conditions, such as atherosclerosis that can cause both heart disease and stroke, and is associated with many different types of cancer, including lung, mouth, throat, colon, stomach and esophagus. Vitamin C also helps to regenerate your supplies of vitamin E (another useful antioxidant).
Hypertension Vitamin C has been shown to lower blood pressure, and therefore lessen the probability of hypertension, as well as the serious health problems that follow, such as cardiovascular disease.
Blood Vessels Along with lowering your blood pressure, vitamin C ensures proper dilation of blood vessels, which can prevents such diseases as atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, and angina pectoris (a inadequate supply of blood to the heart that causes severe chest pains).
Lead Toxicity
Vitamin C dramatically lowers your blood lead level. This is especially important for children living in urban areas, as studies have shown that lead toxicity can lead to behavioral and developmental problems, such as learning disabilities and lowered IQ. Adults, moreover, may suffer from kidney damage and high blood pressure.
Cataracts
The lens of the human eye requires vitamin C to function properly, and a deficiency can lead to cataracts (a condition in which the lens becomes increasingly opaque, causing blurry vision). A higher intake of vitamin C has been shown to fight cataracts by increasing the amount of blood flow to the eye.
To all the medical practitioners here:
1. What really is the ideal daily dosage of vitamin c for, say, an adult (30 something) like me?
2. Is ascorbic acid acidic?
3. Is alkaline diet true?
hi PEXers, i dont know how to merge topics so dito ko nalang din ipopost since same topic lang naman but different content.. may naresearch din akong article about the benefits of vitamin C sa skin ng tao.. and this is just some of what I have read..
"Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is one of the relatively few topical agents whose effectiveness against wrinkles and fine lines is backed by a fair amount of reliable scientific evidence. (See our article on vitamin C.) Unfortunately, the practical use of vitamin C in skin care presents some difficulties due to its lack of stability. When exposed to air, vitamin C solution undergoes oxidation and becomes not only ineffective but also potentially harmful (oxidized vitamin C may increase the formation of free radicals).
Some skin care companies offer stabilized vitamin C products, which oxidize less rapidly. However, these products are usually very expensive (especially the ones concentrated enough to be effective) and may still be excessively oxidized by the time you use them."
ayun, so ok din pala ang pag-inom ng ascorbic acid. ;D thumbs up!![]()

Hi, I saw the ad of Poten-cee and they have 8hour release for their Poten-Cee Forte. So I tried using it and effective siya for me.Di ko na kailangan uminom ng dalawang capsules para mareach ang daily quota ko ng Vitamin C.
Same tayo Sis!Poten-cee Forte ang iniinom ko. I know Poten-cee is kinda pricey pero kung iisipin mo, 1000mg na yung isang tablet, meaning you get the amount you need in just one tablet, so sulit siya..
their website is informative, you can check them out http://www.potencee.com.ph/.

Doc Ira. My dad told me that you can get your RDA of Vitamin C by eating 21 oranges in one day? is that true.
Vitamin has so much benefits and very low risks such that it acquired a mystique as magic pill. Stress? Vit. C. Cold? Vit. C. I need supplement? Vit. C.
Anything that is elevated to that mystical level is bound to be abused. Overdose of Vit. C -- mega doses -- does have some effects. Diarrhea is a common side effect. Fatigue, skin rashes, and disturbed sleep were observed, although not common. Pregnant women should not overdose in Vit. C -- or on any supplement anyway. There are potentially harmful effect to the fetus. And there are yet other more exotic side effects of Vit. C.
The Golden Rule in food supplementation is MODERATION. It is also the golden rule for life in general.
Taking vitamin C (as with other vitamins) in reasonable doses is fine. However I've observed that Filipinos tend to ascribe all sorts of "magical" properties to vitamins, no doubt in part (or even largely) due to relentless advertising. For example, I've been asked several times "Doc bakit nagkakasipon pa rin ako eh araw-araw akong nagva-vitamin C?" This is a fairly benign scenario but the adverse impacts in believing too much in vitamins can exist. For example, instead of getting adequate sleep and rest a person might think he or she can get away with it by just taking "stresstabs." Mothers might believe a thin child is the result of "lack of vitamins" and will invest in them when the root cause might actually be lack of enough calories/nutrients. Her money is better spent on improving the diet of her child rather than on vitamins.
At the end of the day, vitamins are never a substitute for a balanced diet, healthy lifestyle, adequate rest, and adequate exercise. They should be put in a proper perspective and not on a pedestal as so many people tend to do.
Anybody heard of Vital C? Competitor raw ng Fern C but ang gusto ko malaman is which is a better product. Mga sales kasi puro bias so user feedback is better.
