Yes, there is. Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach pains, joint pains, and a change in the amount of urine. 1000 grams daily is still generally acceptable, but if you're not sickly anyway and you eat a balanced diet, do yourself and your wallet a favor and just take 500 mg daily. You don't need the extra amounts.

it worked for me... when produce gas that means your body is loaded with *enough* vit. C.

you might want to do this experiment:

you will reach your diarrhea earlier with big dosage of vit. C when you are NOT sick, and when you have colds, you will notice that you will hardly have diarrhea at the same dosage. the vit. C is really used up by the body.

don't take big dosage of vit. C at single take, better with divided dose because it goes to urine when there's too much.

there are other uses for vitamin C: some surgeons i know use it to promote wound healing. i know a hematologist using to facilitate the absoption of iron in patients with anemia. these ideas have a theoretical basis but evidence based medicine have yet to validate these claims.

Ambroxol is mucolytic. no idea what ornex is. what's it for?

    thanks.

I have read a lot about controversies and facts about vitamin C ( Ascorbic acid). The recommended dose for daily maintenance is just 100 mg. Is this true doc? Another thing, during our college days, it was a fact that vitamin C increases the function of Iron supplements, but I've read that high dose of Iron intake together with high dose of Vit. C can cause pro-oxidation of cells leading to developments of cancer cells.
What makes a good combination is Vitamin C + little dose of Copper (Cu).

Actually, the RDA for adults is only 60 mg, and only reaches around 100 mg if the person's pregnant or breastfeeding.

As for iron and vit C causing cancer, it is only associated with patients with hemosiderosis, and it isn't seen in people with normal serum iron levels.

Ornex contains a low dose of phenylpropanolamine. It's use to ease nasal congestion on a limited use (not to be used for long periods of time).

ascorbate is ascorbic acid with other element, i'm not sure if it's calcium.

ascorbic acid in high dosage is not comfortable at all, it will give you diarrhea. at high dosage, i always use vit. c from health stores.

sometime ago i wanted to save small amount by changing my vit. c with rose hips to ascorbic acid and it gives me stomach upset right away after a few dose...

It doesn't matter whether you take ascorbic acid or ascorbate. No one ever needs a stat dose of vitamin C, and your body can easily break ascorbic acid down.

When you say limited use, meaning it is used only when needed?
How about 5 days, is it long? Because when I have a cold, I consume Ornex(Phenylpropanolamine) 3x a day for 5 days.

5 days is fine. By prolonged use, eyedoc means several weeks to months.

i think the advantage of ascorbate is it's not acidic like ascorbic acid, that is if you suffer some stomach problem when you take ascorbic acid you switch to ascorbate.

  17. #37
but is ascorbic acid the same thing as vitamin c? i always thought it was.

anyway, thanks for the warning about the diarrhea bit. i love taking vit C tablets, esp. ascorbic acid.

I take vit C 500 mg a day, but the buffered so as not ti irritate the stomache lining. They say ESTER C is the same but more gentle sa stomache. Is it true.

  20. #40
vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin. taking alot is useless. you would just excrete it in your urine
