Thank you sir for taking the time out to advice me on this matter. I'm actually right now in Oman but when I get home I will consult with an ENT because I think the reAL culprit is my tongue.

nasa Oman ka pala.. gusto mo muna subukan honey bee, cinnamon powder & warm water? preferably manuka honey. gargle mo evry morning. mas ok kung iinom din ng 1 glass warm water with 1tsp honey bee. morning & evening.

I think this disease is somewhat called "halitosis". Bad breath may have many causes; some maybe due to poor dental hygiene, while others maybe signals an internal disease. The best way to beat this should be to practice dental hygiene more often: brush teeth at least 3x daily; gargle with oral gargles (less alcohol content preferred); or in the absence of gargles, lukewarm water with salt will do; floss daily to remove food particles in between your teeth as this may sometimes cause your teeth to rot and emit a bad smell from your mouth, visit your dentist at least once in a year for dental check-up. While dental hygiene may solve the problem to some, others maybe due to some internal diseases. Bad breath maybe a symptom of gastrointestinal diseases like hyperacidity, ulcers etc. etc. The best way to beat this is to consult a physician who may see if your halitosis maybe caused by a disease or simply just poor dental hygiene

Bad breath is caused by a chemical reaction in your mouth and stomach. Sulfur compounds is usually produced in these reaction which gives off a foul smell.

Try to avoid food containing sulfur compounds. List all the foods that you regularly eat and go to this website to check for the food which contains sulfur compounds:

    http://users.bigpond.net.au/allergyd.../fi/sulph.html

Totally avoid coffee, canned goods, junk food, sugary foods, sodas, processed food, refined flour, and preserved foods if you want that baby fresh breath. All modern foods are chemically prepared. So, we all should ought to go back to nature and prepare food the natural way. Fresh in, fresh out.

Brush your tongue, palate (ngalangala), and sides. Floss regularly and drink lots of water. This get rids of the chemical present in the food you eat.

also use a tongue scraper. it works wonders.

By the way, I found out that toothpaste too sweet, too much mint and those with whiteners worsens the breath.

I found one brand which is very good for the breath - Beam toothpaste.

    For bad breath.

    1. Please use dental floss. You need to floss your teeth once or twice a day. This is non-negotiable.

    2. Brush your teeth 3 to 4 times a day: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and before sleeping.

    3. Mouthwashes do very little for bad breath. Please stop using mouthwashes and spend more on dental floss and toothpaste instead.

    4. Pyodontyl tastes really bad. Why not use some other toothpaste?

    5. Drink 8 glasses of water a day.

    6. Have your teeth checked for cavities. Cavities can give off a foul odor. If you have cavities, you need to have them restored (pastahan)

    7. We all need to have our teeth cleaned professionally (oral prophylaxis) every 6 months or twice in a year.

    8. Do you smoke? Smoking leads to nicotine stains on the teeth, can result in oral cancer, and can make your breath smell foul.

lahat naman tayo nagkakabad breath diba kahit gano pa tayo ka hygienic, kahit lagi tayo nagsisipilyo, nagflofloss, gumagamit ng mouthwash. minsan sa loob ng isang araw eh di talaga maiiwasan na medyo mag iiba amoy ng hininga natin, diba? tanong: pano ba natin malalaman kung medyo bad breath na tayo? kasi minsan medyo malapit tayo nakikipag usap sa mga kaibigan natin. pano natin makakasiguro na wala nga sila ibang naaamoy? siguro isang sign na yun pagtatakip nila ng ilong nila. pero hindi ba may tao din na habit na yung tinatakpan ang ilong nila kapag may kausap sila but it doesnt necessarily mean na may naamoy sila. asking your kausap kung may bad breath ka is out of the question kasi nakakahiya naman yung ganon. so, again, pano tayo makakasiguro na wala tayong bad breath? kapag once ba na may ibang lasa na mouth natin eh ibig sabihin nun may bad breath na tayo?

i have a dry mouth problem. kailangan kong uminom ng cold water lagi para medyo mawala yung pagiging dry ng mouth ko. and also madalas may parang ibang lasa ang mouth ko kahit na bagong toothbrush lang ako, minsan nga parang mas grabe pa after after i brushed my teeth. minsan naman after ko kumain kunwari ng bread with margarine. after i brushed my teeth i can still taste/smell the margarine sa mouth ko. anong cure dito? mouthwash is a no no kasi mas lalong nagiging dry ang mouth ko. i have tried dry mouth gel na din pero same result din gaya ng paggamit ko ng mouthwash. madalas kumakain na lang ako ng sugarless mint gum para mawala ang "taste" na yun at para medyo mawala mag pag dry ng mouth ko. i tried asking my dentist about it na kaya lang parang di din nya ata alam kung ano ang solution sa problem ko. di ko na tuloy alam kung kanino ako dapat kumonsulta. help!

There are three ways I can think of from the top of my head:
    1. Through a "halimeter" which measures the severity of bad breath, at a breath clinic.
    2. Try licking your wrist and smell it after it dries.
    3. And lastly, you can ask a very trusted friend who will be HONEST.

You have what is called "xerostomia". It is usually a symptom of other diseases or conditions. Have you checked with a doctor lately?
Forgive me but I haven't had much experience with xerostomic patients. For the meantime, you can still continue chewing sugarless gum or sucking on sugar free lemon candies to stimulate salivary flow. Also, you can actually use mouthwash, pero it has to have no alcohol component (try Oracare). Keep in mind as well that people who have xerostomia usually have an increased rate of dental caries or tooth decay, so please visit your dentist every other month to monitor whether you have cavities forming in your teeth.

first of all, thanks to smilewarrior sa reply niya sa other thread..

gusto ko lang i-share ko yung story ko about bad breath baka sakali meron nakaka-relate or meron makatulong sa akin.. hehe..

Anyway, I went na to my dentist mga 2 weeks ago na yata. I asked her about sa wierd taste sa mouth ko and my bad breath. So, she checked everything tapos pinastahan yung iba kong ipin, pinalitan din yung ibang pasta tsaka magpa-cleaning na rin ako.. There was a time na na-aamoy ko pa yung bad breath ko habang meron siyang ginagawa sa ngipin ko. After that eh feeling ko eh okay na kasi the day after eh wala na akong wierd taste sa mouth ko. The next day (Monday), hay naku, meron pa rin bad breath tsaka minsan eh nagiging dry pa rin yung mouth ko..

Yung sinasabi niya yata eh about acid reflux (GERD yata yon, which I hope eh wala akong ulcer).

    My symptoms are:
occasional dry mouth (sa jeep or bus 'to madalas mangyari kasi hindi ko binuka yung mouth ko dahil sa bad breath although naaamoy parin ng mga katabi ko)
white tongue (sabi nung EENT eh normal lang daw, yung tongue ko is white and super furry, tsaka medyo rough)
bad breath (i believe sa nose lumalabas din kasi sa jeep, the three people infront of me eh amoy pa rin nila)

I even tried antibiotics and oral gels. Lahat na! Hay!! Yun Lang.

Hello pathfinda. There's a GERD thread here at What's Up Doc, I'll look for it and post a link here for you to click.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd follow the adivice of your ENT.

This may help, please bring a bottle of clean drinking water with you wherever you go. When you feel your throat is dry, take a little sip of clean water.

    Good luck.
