Tutoring Services! Need help!!!

I'm planning to put up a tutorial center in pasig. Me and my officemate just came up of the idea recently! Its near private school like st. paul, poveda, la salle and uap so maganda potential market. Location is at his house and i have lots of friends that can teach... This is my first time to put up a "small business" so please bare with me.... I want to ask a couple of questions for those who are into or have a working knowledge of tutoring centers....

1. I'm planning to charge a client 300/hour for in-house tutoring and 400/hour for home service. Is this a competetive rate?

2. I'm planning to give out fliers to these schools, is it alright if i include that most of the tutors are philippine science and UP graduates?

3. Any additional tips on marketing techniques are welcome...

i only charge P200 per hour (in-house service). i am available from 7-10 pm, monday thru friday.

- try offering a free 1st tutorial session (limited time only, of course)
- offer free sessions for those that pay in advance (pay for 12 sessions, get 1 free session)
- offer free sessions for referrals

Is your 300-400/hour rate is competitive? Find out if there are any other tutorial centers in the area and how much they charge. You may be able to charge more for your in-house tutoring if you have a nicer study area, better books/materials, etc.

My brother used to tutor Ateneo and PSHS students (yes, they need tutors too) for around P50-100/hour, if I recall correctly.

ngayon, namamasukan na ulit sila. yung isa sa public school, yung iba sa tutorial center ulit.

ang mga dahilan ng kanilang pagsasara:
1. hindi sila nag focus sa business
2. hindi nila pinag-aralan ang market
3. mahina ang pundasyon nila sa pagbi-business
4. wala sa puso nila ang pag-bi-business
5. tamad mag-si-pagbasa ng mga business books.(puro internet, chat,pocketbooks ang inaatupag pag walang estudyante)

ang payo suhestiyon ko:
1. mag-invest ka muna sa iyong sarili. atend ka ng mga seminars, etc.
2. kabaligtaran ng 1 to 5.

Some teachers think that tutorial services are a crutch which only helps lazy and undedicated students artificially inflate their academic performance. Sa madaling salita, tumaas man ang marka nila, wala namang naidadagdag sa laman ng utak.

The fact that many tutorial centers are set up and run by ex-teachers does not help erase this impression.

I don't necessarily subscribe to this belief, but you should know what others think of your services. Are you performing a valuable service or are you just taking the parents' hard-earned money?

minsan, nanghihinayang ako sa mga ganitong sitwasyon. i tried to help them grow, encouraging them to be a real entrepreneur but then again, they think they know all but in the end, they fall. they don't need my help, they don't listen to what i said.

anyway, maybe it's not yet the right time for them to make business.

Madami talagang tamad mag-aral and you really can't blame parents for wanting their kids' grades to improve especially if you are on the verge of getting kicked out. My brother had to be tutored in Pisay. Yes a Pisay boy, because he was on the verge of getting booted out and if you get booted out of Pisay, you had to pay Pisay the cost of education and it's not a pretty penny and those tutors for Pisay students charged P500 a hour!!! Geez!!!

But then again I too was subjected to tutoring services. Tsk, tsk..I still remember it. I was in 2nd grade, my stupid class adviser put someone else's grades in my report card and it was so damn low that my parents were furious with me and subjected me to a tutor. At that age I had no idea what I had done and I've always gotten good grades so it was a surprise. During the parent-adviser one-on-one, the mistake was discovered, unfortunately my parents already spent money for 1 month worth of tutorials...sheesh...

hhehe wala parin akong tsinelas, pero ok yung intial reaction nang marketing plan ko. grabe for the first time in a long time di kinaya nang aircon yung tao. will try it now sa other branches ko kung magiging succesful.

ako rin nag tutorial (elementary highscool rin)
i failed a couple of subjects nung college so i had to take this tutorial type class
medyo mas mahal sya keysa regular clases pero i needed it to finish kasi baka mag 5 years na ako (i fiinished octoberian 4 years and a half)
it was kind of humiliating pero tinangap ko na di naman talaga ako matalino kaya bawi nalang ako sa sipag. yung isa pang tutor ko ang cute sobra gusto ko sana ligawan pero teacher ko eh. 1 year lang ang tanda nya sakin.

hmmm upto now i sometimes still count with my fingers...
sensya na po simpleng tao lang kasi.....

thanks.. i'll do that... pero 50 to 100/hr? di ba masyadong mababa yun, and i imagine na mahihirap pa yung mga pinapaturo ng mga taga pisay...

hey.. i'm also a product of pisay and i wasn't aware that they have changed policies na pala? nagpapabayad na pala sila kapag kicked out?

may cousin ako nagstart din ng tutorial kaso she was forced to close it kse may na-applyan shang tutorial for korean kids and ADULTS... pero di sha marunong magkorean ha...

balik sa tutorial niya.. medyo hindi sa metro manila yung area nya pero students nya madalas tiga-Assumption, La Salle, st. paul tsaka iba pa.. nagrent sha ng isang room na may aircon tsaka naglagay ng mga desks, etc... dapat magpapart time ako dun pero di natuloy pero ang napagusapan nmin is 200-300 ata per session.. eh isang session 2 hrs.. tapos pwede pang pagsabay-sabayin upto 3 students... pwedeng sa house nung bata, or sa tutorial center nya.. ok namn daw ang kita.. pero shempre may mas magandang opportunity na dumating eh.. iba ata rate niya pag one-on-one eh..
