I don't think that stretch marks are comparable to varicose veins... and why Hirudoid,
di ba para ito sa keloids?

I've just had my first baby, and also had some stretch marks. While I was pregnant,
I applied cocoa butter lotion sa tummy ko para wag masyadong dark yung stretch marks...
okay naman. Sa ngayon light na yung kulay nung stretch marks... pero di pa rin
    pwede mag-bikini

From what I heard wala talagang mga lotion/creams na makakatanggal
sa stretch marks. Tama si batang uliran, go to your derma/plastic surgeon
for other ways to 'remove' the unsightly marks.

Stretch marks develop when there is a sudden gain in weight or increase in muscle which causes stretching of the skin and damage to the underlying collagen.

No, they are not similar to varicose veins, which are enlarged veins due to incompetent venous valves.

Here's a medical reference which might be helpful but please do not self-medicate.

here's what you do: choose a liquid concealer that matches your skin tone and apply liberally on your *huge* belly.. (kidding)

seriously, there's this cocoa butter stick that i used to buy at wallgreens in the states. i could say i was pretty chubby when i was around 10 -- my thighs were hella thick! anyways, i wasnt conscious about stretchmarks until about i was 18.. a friend told me to use this and my stretchmarks actually lightened (did not completely vanish, though).. i still have em but i cover it up with a little make-up when i'd have to get on my swimwear.

the cocoa butter is in this yellow tube. i completely forgot the brand.. but it smells awesome.

    hope this helps!

manang_m ano iyong cocoa butter lotion?
it's basically a lotion/cream that keeps the stretch marks at bay, esp. when you're pregnant and starting to show. siguro from cocoa iyon kasi when i was using it,
amoy cocoa nga! light yellow yung color nito.

btw, about your friend who's much bigger than you, siguro wala siyang stretch marks, kasi permanently stretched na yung skin niya and he/she has not lost weight
    kaya ayun walang marks!

eniwey, good luck uli with getting rid of those ugly marks!

sad to say, stretch marks are permanent. no creams, lotions or oral meds could "wipe it away". these products only help lighten the pigmentation so as to make it less noticeable. there are collagen injections available in the market but it has to be used by a professional dermatologist. it may result to extreme hypersensitivity reaction (allergy) that's why it has to be skin tested first. the thing is, it is very expensive and if the skin test proves that you are allergic to it - bye.. bye thousands of pesos !!!

    hope to have helped.

If you're on the heavy side, try to lose weight. Massaging with lotions may help lessen the marks a bit, but it's not really a sure cure.

hi doc ira! i also have problems with stretch marks. u see, i have them in tighs. inner tighs ba. and i also have some at the back of my knees. i don't know how i got those marks. what do you thinks is the reason y i got those stretch marks? and what's ur advice so i can get rid of them. before, super red talga yung stretch marks ko. pero when i start applying some lotion and ointment, medyo nabawasan and naging brownish na lang. pero, prominent pa rin eh. anong pwede kong gawin para medyo mawala na siya?

Regular exercise to tone your thighs and massaging the affected area with lotion may help.

doc ira, effective ba ang ointment na hydroxyl and retanyl-A for stretchmarks? i just read in an article that these two are ointments which may help to lessen stretchmarks. is it true?

    Post

As mentioned, it may reduce stretch marks, since hyroxyl and retinyl-A work to peel skin. However, it may not be wholly effective, depending on how deep and how extensive the marks are.
