    Worth it kaya yung discount voucher ng ensogo? Standard lasik treatment refractive laser at 30k instead of 65k? Having a second thought on it. The procedure will be done at QC eye center.

    Doc Richie, I was diagnosed to have Kerotoconus 8 years ago. I have been using RGP lens since then. Is it possible to have my eyes undergo the LASIK procedure? I'm already tired of wearing contact lenses. Also, do you know any optical shops in the Philippines that sell cheap Boston lens? Thanks!

    @merovingian

    Good question. Lasik alone would not be a great idea. Currently, we have a procedure known as cross-linking which can, at the very least, slow down or stop keratoconus progression. Sometimes, it even decreases the grade. Now there are cases wherein patients who have had cross-linking also get Lasik or PRK. As far as I know, the jury is still out though. I do encourage you to consider cross-linking.

    I do not know of any optical shops that sell "cheap" boston lenses. Mahal kasi siya talaga.

    Thanks for the swift reply, Doc. I'll surely research about cross-linking.

    Another question po, Doc. When people ask me, "ano'ng grado ng mata mo?", I always get dumbfounded as I really don't know how to answer it. I always tell them that mine is not the usual case, that it is unmeasurable using phoropter alone. My contact lens prescription reads:

    Right Eye
    Sphere: -2.50
    Base Curve: 7.45
    Diameter: 8.7
    Material: G6

    Left Eye
    Sphere: -4.75
    Base Curve: 7.0
    Diameter: 8.7
    Material: BES

    So, how should I answer when people ask me what's my grade?

  17. #1017
    @merovingian

    You can say: " my RGP's are -2.50 on the right and -4.75 on the left"

    You see the "grado" of an RGP contact lens can't be compared to the usual grado of the eyeglasses nor the grado of the contact lens. This is because the tearfilm between the RGP and the cornea contributes to the power of the RGP. To be "compatible" with everyone else, you need to get your eyeglass grado determined. It will be a rough estimate but that's as close as you can get.

    Here's the link to my mentor's website in the US. He was one of the pioneers in cross-linking for keratoconus in the USA:

    http://www.keratoconusinserts.com/c3...sslinking.html

    ^Doc Richie, is crosslinking already being done here in the country? If yes, where, and what's the range in terms of cost? I believe only a few ophthalmologists are trained to do this, right?

  19. #1019
    @merovingian

    It is available at SLMC-QC. around 50K per eye. Ironically, it's cheaper than some places at this point.

    yes, there are relatively few of us who are trained in this.
