read morehow long is the procedure of a LASIK surgery? and why is the price range (45-70K) quite far? i mean it has a difference of around 25K? anong case yung sa 45K? eh sa 70K?
It takes an hour at most, that's already including pre-op preparation and post-op advise. The difference in price would be due to the severity of your myopia.
Saw this in the papers lately (c/o Philhealth). Anybody here knows what's the catch?
As with all surgical procedures, I don't believe that PhilHealth pays for EVERYTHING. It does pay for a portion of the procedure though.
The advantage is that if your PhilHealth papers are in order, you have less cash out since PhilHealth pays for part of it.
I believe that the ad you saw is for American Eye Center. It would be better for you to call them up to confirm if this is indeed the case. I am basing this on most surgical procedures (for example, cataract surgery) wherein the patient only pays for part of the procedure as PhilHealth will pay for the rest.
konti lang ang i-subsidize ng philhealth... worth 9thou yata out of 60thou na cost (both eyes).
mas malaki ng konti pag cataract ang ipapa-opera. worth 16thou ang subsidized sa total cost of 40thou for cataract operation.
according to the info we got last week when we called them up to ask.

Ano naman ang kapalit? How much premium are they asking for and for how long?

There is no catch. Hospitals and clinics are constantly having themselves Philhealth accredited in order to widen their patient base. Philhealth on the otherhand continuously seeks to improve member benefits and priviledges by updating their list of approved procedures. Although it is still a far cry from a true health insurance, at least it is a step in the right direction that would help defray the costs of healthcare.
Philhealth contributions are the cheapest in the country. Individually paying members contribute P100 per month. I don't have the figures, but from a practical standpoint I'd say almost every hospital and major surgical clinic in the country is Philhealth accredited. That holds true for board-certified "specialists" also. Almost all are Philhealth accredited. They have to be or else they'll be missing out on a lot of potential patients (and revenues). Benefits can be availed after 3 months but better call them up regarding this matter. Coz I think if you pay the full year, I'm sure you can avail of benefits right at the onset.
Best recourse is to combine your Philhealth and another current HMO membership to susidize for any healthcare procedure you need to undergo. The trouble with HMO's though, the doctor and clinic/hospital has to be afflliated with the HMO you are subscribed to, thus limiting your personal choice.
Another problem with HMO's: not all procedures are covered. I don't think LASIK is covered.
How about Maxicare...covered kaya ang Lasik procedure sa Maxicare?
Call your HMO and ask for the specifics of your coverage. I doubt if Maxicare pays for this procedure though. It's considered cosmetic surgery for all intents and purposes.
Hi! Have been using contacts since 6th grade...after 7 years of use I can't stand wearing them over an hour...I'm around 750 both eyes, with 1+ astigmatism...I can still undergo the procedure? I don't know why is it that prolonged use of contacts give me eye irritation in the latter years...
it's pretty safe. i recommend dr. jack arroyo at american eye center, shang.
THANKS! Will go there when I drop by Ortigas![]()
doc, at what age does the eye grade become stable? i'm 22 yo and i have 5.00 in my left eye and -5.25 in my right eye with a little bit of astigmatism. one of my friends told me to wait until i reach 25 so my eye grade is stable. do you think i should wait? and also, which is safer--lasik or laser? or is that the same thing?
...ask ko lang po..magkano kaya pa lasik ngayon? saka ok lang ba kung papagawa ko yun kahit na may astigmatism ang left eye ko?
...EYEDOC or anyone..help naman po!...THANKS!
...peace!...
thanks, doc.Originally Posted by pexxerdoc

P65,000 ang procedure sa American Eye Center (for both eyes). P500 ang initial checkup. Follow-up checkup is free and you have to come back 1 week after surgery, then 3 months, then 6 months, then once a year na lang. The reason for many post-surgery visits is to make sure your eyes are healing properly. I got mine done and I had astigmatism on my eyes as well. LASIK actually fixes your astigmatism.
whoa... ang mura pala ng lasik dyan! dito (US) kasi yan yung price for just ONE eye.Originally Posted by thirdeye
