It will be a toss up between Rico and Japeth. Both players are expected to play a big role for their respective teams this season. But as a La Sallian, I'll pick Rico of course.

Let's not assume a back-to-back this early. Let's take care of things one game at a time. Entering the final four would be the first target and then take things from there as to we can achieve a back-to-back. But it's good to be optimistic as always.

I think Rico's gonna go all out this season. The Archers will really need his presence in the shaded lane.

arellano was already a stud last year. he will be a superstud this year.
aguilar has tremendous upside because of his height and mobility. he will be a future number 1 pick in the pba despite playing for a team with an alumni that puts too much pressure that some of the palyers underachieve maierhofer was a role player last year but la salle has recently acquired a reputation of developing bit players into studs overnight. canuday is playing for adamson. what else is there to say? well luigi doesn't coach there anymore so there's a chance for the players to really improve but i doubt it. |

Rico, simply because he will be tasked with a much bigger role with La Salle's lineup.
But we've got to admit, Japeth is some kind of physical phenom. In ten years, he'll be the biggest name among the four. |

This coming from an Atenean who will miss the Ateneo-La Salle classic tomorrow:
Rico Maierhoffer is most likely to start at power forward this year. He's got awesome leaping ability; however, he doesn't know how to land. He ought to watch out for injuries. He can also score at will, but with scorers such as Yeo and JV Casio populating the Archers lineup, he must learn how to dive for those loose balls. Same thing with Japeth. I think his knees were bruised and battered during the Fr. Martin's Cup, and as I read in one of these threads before, some STI players did some really cheap shots on his knees, like hanging on to them and doing spin moves. He could use some more bulk, but the bounce is there. And he's got an amazing talent for blocking shots and putting the ball through the rim. Mark my words -- Japeth Aguilar could be the next Enrico Villanueva/Paolo Bugia hybrid for the Eagles. Now, if only he tried lifting some more weights... I don't know much about Leo Canuday. I saw him during the Baby Falcons-Eaglets finals series two years ago and he was simply phenomenal. Too bad Barracoso and Jai Reyes simply outshone them. With Mark Abadia graduating last year, though, the Falcons need another potent scoring option in case Ken Bono gets clamped down by the likes of Japeth or Rico (not that anyone can easily stop a 6'7" guy with lots of heft). (Whatever happened to that Johnston guy anyway?) However, Marcy Arellano is the guy to watch out for this year. The post-Yap and Artadi Red Warriors are in the process of rebuilding. They unveiled a prize catch in Mark Borboran at small/power forward during last year's Champions' League, but Marcy can provide the stability and court savvy of Artadi combined with the scoring ability, to a slightly lesser extent, of Yap. He and his UE squad will fight it out with UP and/or Adamson for the fourth-sixth spots. |

Marcy Arellano already made a significant impact to UE's campaign last year so I see less room for "more impact".
Japeth Aguillar may be the best prospect among the group but I think he will play more of a supporting role to LA Tenorio and JC Intal. Leo Canuday will play a more significant role now that Tagupa is out. Expect him to play the role of a scoring PG with his size and athleticism. However, I think Rico Meirhoffer will have the most significant impact among the 2nd players with DLSU's thin fronline and with the absence of Cardona. If Galinato were around I would have exected him to be the anchor of their defense ala Cardona. But he may have to defend the paint than the perimeter with their lack of big men. |

I have high hopes for Rico. I think he's one of the rookies that really stood out. Anyway, we can all wait and see.

for me, either Marcy or Rico just because they had the playing experience last year and was able to contribute despite being rookies. Having talent alone is not enough, iba pa din ang nagagawa nung nasa court ka and playing UAAP ball.

do you know the good player on bad team argument? there are two sides to that, but i think that if you put maierhoffer or arellano on the nu team, or japeth there from year one, it'd be very different. |
