laptop question, please help

Ok, guys, I need help…I’ll buy a laptop in a week or so…I’ll be using AutoCAD (at photoshop na ein )software most of the time since I’m an architecture student…I need a budget-friendly laptop…at least P60000 (P70k is a bit tolerable)…questions… 1) enough na ba ang 40Gb? 1.6 Ghz? 256Mb? Medyo nalilito na ako sa pagpili…they say pentium m is really good when it comes to performance...all I need is a laptop that’ll meet all my needs (should at least have a wi-fi, dvd combo drive/combo drive, 6/8cell li-ion++)…I’m not into gaming…screen doesn’t matter that much, although I’d prefer a wide screen like 15"4…so there…I need urgent answers…btw, I’ll buy a laptop dito sa Pinas (which sucks, btw)…HELP!

looks fine. processor is intel or amd? you might wanna consider add memory from 256 mb to either 512mb or better yet 1 gig. trust me. when you run CAD or even engineering softwares, they eat a lot of RAM and processor power.

all of the specs is okay as for as i can see. base from your needs of course.

so you're mobile? meaning on the go? masyadong mabigat ata yan.

well kung autocad lang at photshop.... i think you should increase its memory kasi medyo matagal kapag mag rerender ka ng complex object sa autocad. buy a laptop with pentium Centrino processor. kasi halatang matagal ang trabaho mo nyan. Centrino provides a minimal heatlost kaya d gaano mag iinit laptop mo kapag matagal mo ginagamit.

i dunno...not sure tho..di ba maganda ang amd?wait...so you guys mean na dapat ram na lang ang malaki?di ba makakatulong kung malaki din ang Gb ng laptop?i saw a notebook sa pc corner na 1gig ang ram pero 40Gb.ok lang ba yung ganun?yeah.mabigat nga.medyo on the go ako kasi weekends umuuwi ako sa amin..but if you recommend a better alternative (say ok na specs pero mas magaan), then please do...what shall be my specs talaga?is it really ok kung 40Gb lang as long as 512 or more ang ram??

thanx in advance!

Processor: 1.6 Ghz or higher (Intel Centrino)
Memory Module: DDR 256 or higher
Hard Disk - 40GB basta 7200rpm

isipin mo pre. pang matagalan na gamit... at hindi pumapalya kasi mahirap i-upgrade ang laptop. as much as possible talaga Centrino gamitin mo para mababa lang ang heatloss(kindly correct my other post here.. mali spelling, dapat heatloss) isipin mo na lang madaling umiinit din ang hardisk kapag laging nagbabasa or nagsusulat, taz dadag-dagan mo pa ng heatloss ng processor. pangit naman mag worry ka na mainit notebook mo unless na lang nasa aircon ka palagi. hehehe. precautionary measures lang.

yeah, i've always have problems with memory. i've had it upgrade it because hindi kaya ng laptop ko ang multi-tasking.

is it just me? or is that dumarami na ata ang mga laptop users?!?

kasi napapansin ko dumarami ang threads na tungkol sa laptops. this is like the 10nth thread regarding laptops. atsaka ang daming thread diyaan na hindi na sine-search ng mga pex users.

i think we need to merge the threads. those threads have more tips on how to buy a laptop.

word of advice.... think of a laptop as a Tool...not something for pogi points. sige ka, baka dumami ang mga scratches, gaya nung sabi ng isang thread.

i haven't seen a laptop (at least sa comp shops dito sa pinas) na may AMD proc. saan meron? kung meron man.

the model you have posted (link) looks fine. but if you could add more RAM, it would be better. i'm just not sure sa after-sales support ng model.

For autoCAD and PhotoShop/DTP apps, always prioritize RAM. I don't think there will be much of a difference with processor brand, although get a higher-end one. AMD or Intel? Frankly, I don't think there's going to be much of a performance difference. 40Gb should be enough. If it's mainly for application purposes, you don't really need too much HD space.

I'd recommend 512 Mb, though. Trust me, you'll get away with a 60k laptop... I've seen guys run 3D Studio and Autocad on 512Mb and 1.x Celerons, and they're fine...

1.6Ghz? That's fine. That era when 486xx - pentium processors struggled with AutoCAD rendering is long gone. In fact, you'll even get away with Celeron nowadays, as long as you don't run resource-hungry progs simultaneously....

whoa!thanks a lot...at least natama na yung perception ko na bigger hard disk=better,di rin pala...yeah...i'll focus on the ram. i actually found a notebook na 1gb tapos 40..salamat talaga.yeah, dapat i-merge ang mga thread..i've found some pero di rin nasagot yung iba kong tanong.pero kung meh oras kayo, then please do merge...and no, it's not for porma...i don't live in our house anymore..di naman makatarungan na dalhin ko ang buong computer ko kung bagong titirhan ko dahil nakikitira lang ako (isa pa,idadagdag pa nila sa bayad ko sa kuryente)...salamat talaga...

keep it coming =)

IMO, it's still wise to consider the brand of the item, lalo na sa gadgets. because it will give you an idea of the quality of the item. also, sa branded ones, you will have a better after-sales support, as opposed to the generic ones. if you feel confident sa two factors na yun sa model na kukunin mo, then go

hindi ko sure kung bakit naging mahirap yung pagpapa-upgrade ng RAM ng laptop. for instance, sa case ko, since nag-short ako sa budget when i bought my laptop, ipon na lang muna ako then bili ng 512 for the other available slot.

Know what? My sentiments exactly... Perfect example is the HP laptop I have...

A couple of weeks back, I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard. Normally this wouldn't be covered by warranty. I posted it to HP anyway, and guess what? They replaced the keyboard-no questions asked. I guess, since they're a big company, they'd end up losing more money trying to investigate why the keyboard broke down ie they'll have to have somebody chasing me up, etc... I doubt any smaller company would have just let that go. They'll find ways to get out of the warranty...

that's just one of the perks. Of course you'll be paying extra cash by buying a branded laptop. But trust me, and I've been through dozens of laptops, it's well worth the price difference, man... Especially when we're talking about laptops. Kung PC, parts are easily replaceable... Laptops are another thing... One power surge and that's it...

Note: Memory and harddrives are easy to upgrade (as long as you have additional slot for the memory)

So If I were to choose now, I will get a laptop with higher processor. Maybe a 2Ghz or more and better videocard.

Dothan based pentium m have 2MB L2 cache, Banias have 1mb L2 cache. If you want performance, get a DTR processor (AMD or Intel) and an aluminum laptop cooler.

I understand. I'm just asking you to look at what the small print says in terms of after-sales support. Do they have a website where you can easily download drivers? Do they have a good tech support site/ easily accessed contact number? Is it an on-site warranty, or do you have to pay to send the laptop to them should anything happen? As they say, warranty is half the price of the machine already...

The machine itself is good spec for the price, but it's always best to be sure. 60k is still a lot of money.

You mean a pentium m processor? Intel centrino is a technology, a combination of pentium m, intel wireless card, etc. Because you can get a pentium m with other brand of wireless card (cheaper) and that is not centrino.
